    Per the NCAA:

The NCAA has made the decision not to enter a new contract for the license of its name and logo for the EA Sports NCAA Football video game. The current contract expires in June 2014, but our timing is based on the need to provide EA notice for future planning. As a result, the NCAA Football 2014 video game will be the last to include the NCAA’s name and logo. We are confident in our legal position regarding the use of our trademarks in video games. But given the current business climate and costs of litigation, we determined participating in this game is not in the best interests of the NCAA.

The NCAA has never licensed the use of current student-athlete names, images or likenesses to EA. The NCAA has no involvement in licenses between EA and former student-athletes. Member colleges and universities license their own trademarks and other intellectual property for the video game. They will have to independently decide whether to continue those business arrangements in the future.

Time will tell on what this means for EA SPORTS. Could this mean the end of college football video games? Or does this mean the birth of EA SPORTS College Football with the company needing to reach licenses with individual schools and no longer needing to have the game meet the standards of the NCAA?

    Updated story after the break.

The NCAA Football team is reaching out to the community once again and wants your help in gathering team reference details for possible inclusion in future editions of the game. After asking for info on band and cannon locations in the past (all properly placed in NCAA Football 13), they now want your help in learning all of the crowd chants for every FBS program. This list will be utilized as a checklist for the team as they travel on-campus to each program in the future to record crowd audio as they build upon the crowd chants and improved crowd audio added in NCAA Football 13.

Share your team - or any team you know - info in this thread. Links to media of the chant (YouTube video, MP3, etc.) or articles/references for each chant are welcome. Post the chant and - as important - when it typically is heard during each game.

A class-action lawsuit filed four years ago alleging EA SPORTS of violating antitrust and consumer protection laws has reached a potential $27 million settlement fund while also restricting exclusive deals for the company with the NCAA/CLC or the AFL.

The proposed settlement, filed with the court on July 19, 2012, would establish a $27 million fund for consumers who purchased Madden NFL, NCAA Football or AFL games published by EA. If the settlement is approved by the court, consumers who purchased a sixth generation title (GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox) may receive up to $6.79 per game. Those who purchased a seventh generation title (Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3) may be entitled to as much as $1.95 per game under the terms of the proposed settlement.

As consideration for the settlement, Electronic Arts has agreed to refrain from renewing or otherwise entering into an exclusive trademark license with the AFL for five years from the final date of approval of the proposed settlement. Moreover, Electronic Arts agrees not to renew its current collegiate football trademark license with the CLC on an exclusive basis after that license expires in 2014, or seek any new exclusive trademark license regarding football video games with the NCAA, the CLC, or any NCAA member institution covered by the current exclusive license for a period of five years thereafter.

This appears to mean that EA will be unable to have an exclusive license for NCAA Football for five years beginning in 2014. Given that the last college football competitor came from Sega's College Football 2K3 and the costs that would incur (start-up, development on the 'next' next-gen, licensing, etc.), it does not seem likely a competitor will emerge. TGT will add more information as it becomes available. Continue on for more information and additional coverage. ...

NCAA Football 13 will mark the seventh year of the franchise on the next-gen consoles. In the spring of 2006, the NCAA Football community would begin to change forever. As we lead up to the release of NCAA 13, The Gaming Tailgate will look back at the previous next-gen versions of the game.

With the release of NCAA Football 07 – only on the X-Box 360 – and a fresh start to the franchise, the fracture of the community began. Some in the community stayed on the PlayStation 2 and those who made the switch to next-gen gaming were divided between the 360 and the PlayStation 3. As the studio made the decision to start anew on these next generation consoles, some in the community became disenfranchised with the lack of features on the 360/PS3 version as compared to the PS2 version.

While the rebuilding of the franchise may have taken more time than some would like, it has also witnessed features and game modes that could not have existed on the last-gen series: Stadium Sounds, EA Locker, The Weather Channel Live Feed, web-based TeamBuilder, Dynasty Wire, and the crown jewel - Online Dynasty. ...

This is the first part of our series looking at the NCAA Football franchise as we enter the seventh year of NCAA Football on the next-gen consoles.

NCAA Football 07 kicked-off the next-gen revolution of college football in the summer of 2006 on the X-Box 360. The game is considered the “lost” next-gen game due to only being available on one console and being released at a time when many were just starting to make the switch to the 360.

The move to next-gen gaming saw both gamers and studios alike place a huge emphasis on the improved visuals that were now possible thanks to the new powerful technology at-hand. The majority of early previews of these consoles and upcoming titles focused on their visual capabilities with screenshots and CG movies touting the possibility that laid ahead in the years to come. Continuing with this trend, visuals would be an aspect that NCAA Football 07 focused heavily on. ...
