Played through both Max Payne games in the past few weeks. MP1 doesn't hold up to time very well but is still decent enough for a playthrough but I was quite surprised how well MP2 held up. Honestly, MP2 gives me vibes of the Uncharted series... obviously different story lines and the bullet-time stuff in MP is obviously different, but otherwise similar feel to it. I'll be curious how well MP3 is put together... just hope it's not Kane & Lynch with a single character which for some reason I can see happening.

I remember at launch, Sony said the shelf life of the PS3 would be about 10 years. I'd sorta like to see that be the case.

That's often misrepresented... they said the console would have a 10 year life cycle, meaning they would support it for 10 years or more, just like they did with the PS2. Obviously the PS3 overlapped that 10 years, just like there's a strong likelihood that the PS4 would overlap the 10 years of the PS3.

I understand, Tommy. But, if we're still not close to a PS4, I would think we'll be at 8 years our so before we get it. That's fine with me. I, personally, don't want to have to upgrade consoles every few years.

It's completely fine with me too. Something tells me Microsoft's next console won't be much more than a few more mechanical upgrades + blu ray. If they're supposedly all set to announce something at the 2012 E3.

And if that happens...GOOD, no more EA SPORTS limitations because of 360 disc space.

And just plain no more limitations at all because of 360 disc space. So hopefully Rockstar will start making massive GTA, and other, games that will fit on Blu-ray but not DVD. Maybe next year, there won't be this stupid PS3 Collectors Edition for Tiger Woods but nothing for 360 bullshit, etc.

MS is almost guaranteed to announce their next system next year at E3, and if Sony is smart, they do the same. If Sony gets beat to the punch again, they'll have an even harder time finding a nice install base to accompany their system. If they do, the PS3 and PS4 could co exist. Drop the price of the PS3 to $200 and continue supporting it with games much like they did with the PS2, and then launch the brand new system at the $400 or $500 price point and let the people decide whichever they want.

If Sony lets MS get another year head start on them, they're retarded.

Again, as I said earlier....will the XBOX console really be next-gen? I'm highly doubting it...

MS and their ignorant marriage to DVD has held back this gen. I'd love to see them go to BR. But if they wait till late 2012, it'll be almost too little too late, IMO.

It would have to be. People aren't going to fork over money for another console if it's just a slight upgrade. I don't think they have a choice, they either go BluRay or they go all digital, and I think the recent debacle with Sony is going to keep the all digital at bay for at least a little while. I would also expect a fairly noticeable jump in graphics capabilities, you'll probably see Kinect integrated somehow, Live will be beefed up even further, etc..

There's definitely a lot of room for improvement(for both Sony and MS) and either one of them would be ignorant to release a new console that isn't a major upgrade. The 360 is really becoming dated, but then again, so is the PS3. I think the PS3 has marginally more power and more potential, but not enough to allow MS to get another year head start on them. In case Sony didn't notice with the 360 and PS3, Americans love technology and usually buy the first thing to the market. If they don't release PS4 the same time MS releases their new console, they had better only be a couple months behind. Anything longer than 5 or 6 months and they'll find themselves in another hole to climb out of.

I sure as hell know I won't. If it's not a significant upgrade over the 360, I'm certainly not spending my money on it, at least not until it's been on the market multiple years and the prices have dropped way down.

No way I'd upgrade without significant upgrades to the hardware of either console. The 360 is a 7 year old console now and it's REALLY starting to show. The only reason why the games are still continuing to look a bit better is because they are limiting the view distance (either by having smaller game environments or through fog of war effects/pixel blurring). The technology that both consoles are built with isn't much to write home about. Micro$oft will have to put some pretty significant upgrades into their next console to get most people to jump, I would think (unless they completely disregarded the 360 and thereby made people upgrade to be able to play anything).

Yeah, but if they completely stopped supporting the 360 and then introduced a slightly better console at a higher price point, MS would REALLY piss a LOT of people off. It definitely wouldn't be a hit sales wise.

i can already see the surprise announcement by microsoft at next year's e3. "our new console is almost ready for production, and will be available by next christmas."

sony would be screwed at that point. lol
