    No external storage this month.

    From Major Nelson:

Coming Soon: New Audio Controls and Opt-In Setting to Help Improve Voice Recognition

As part of our ongoing effort to bring new features to our Xbox fans worldwide, we’ll begin rolling out more features to folks in our early access program beginning this week and we’re looking forward to their feedback before shipping the system update to all Xbox One owners in May. We hope you’ve been enjoying our most recent Xbox One system update that rolled out last week and we look forward to bringing you even more great features in the months ahead.

Feature highlights for this next phase of our early access program include a new sound mixer for snapped apps, chat volume controls when using Kinect and the option to help us improve speech recognition. You can also take this update on demand as soon as it becomes available if you’d like.

Sound Mixer for Apps with Snap and Volume Controls When Using Kinect with Chat

We’ve received great feedback from fans asking for more control over audio levels and background sound. As a result, under Settings we’ve added two new features for controlling your audio options. With the new Sound mixer, you’ll be able to control the volume levels of two apps when you’re using Snap letting you decide which app is louder. In this same section, you’ll also be able to control the volume levels when you’re using Kinect for chat.

Opt-In to Help Improve Speech Recognition

Being able to control your Xbox One with voice commands can be a magical moment and we want to continue making this great for all Xbox One owners worldwide. The more voice samples we have to input into our algorithms, the better and more responsive Xbox One can be to our fans. If you want to help us in our efforts to make voice and speech improvements for Kinect even better, you can opt-in to a speech data collection. Under Settings, then Privacy & Online Safety, go to Customizing privacy and online safety and set Share Voice Data to Allow. This is completely optional and all voice data shared via this setting will be used for product improvement only.

Take the Next System Update When You Want

You’ll now also be able to take this next system update as soon as it’s available if you want. When this update is made available, you’ll find the option under Settings, then select System update as shown below.

As always, we’re thrilled with our fans’ enthusiasm about our Xbox One system updates and we’re really excited about what’s coming in the next few months. We look forward to hearing your feedback about these latest features in our early access program and will roll them out to everyone worldwide in May.

Now, while I'm sad nothing on external storage this month, I AM happy about the sound mixer. I hated not being able to control whether I had my game or whatever I was watching on cable when I had my TV hooked up to the One as the louder volume. I either had to mute all sounds and music in the game I was playing, or I had to go without hearing or understanding anything being said on TV. I like being able to control via the mixer which one is louder and how much louder, so I can mix and have sound from both, instead of picking just one in an all or nothing format.

That doesn't guarantee no external storage this month. Last month's initial preview update included bluray playback improvements and eventually expanded to friend's notifications, manual updates, etc...

They always add stuff after the initial preview for the month.

By the way, update is available. Settings > System > Update is how you do it manually now. That button only appears when there's an update available, though.

Ah, alright then. Well, then hopefully we'll see something regarding it pop up in the next week or two.

Sweet! I'll be able to get some game time in this weekend while keeping the NFL draft on. It was going to be either snap TV on or skip gaming this weekend.

I'm not sure I'll watch the whole draft on it, but I'll give it a whirl.

I give the NFL Draft on XB1 a huge MEH. The stream was a decent deal behind, so if you get breaking news on your phone, you'd see the pick before it was on the TV there.

RUMOR: Xbox Live to remove Gold requirement for Netflix, Hulu and other streaming services.

    http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2014/0...-netflix-hulu/

    Of course...

Additionally, we've been told that Xbox Live Gold may put other services behind the paywall to make up for this shift, though those sources could not confirm whether that includes existing services or if that only includes upcoming content like TV series from Xbox Entertainment Studios.

Owning a Microsoft product is like starring in a Belladonna video. You are going to get pleasure from it but at some point you end up with a baseball bat up your ass.

At least the baseball bat this year is only cartoon style from RBI.

Fanboy or not... to me it looks really stupid to essentially have gone against everything that you said would never change. Obviously the fact that there are no worthwhile games at this point that benefit from Kinect and of course the price difference but those are things that should have been sorted out before you came out with your stance for the console. It looks foolish at this point.

Yeah a lot of people on Twitter, most who were Microsoft supporters who switched this gen say they're in panic mode.

I don't know about panic mode considering they're trending to outsell the 360. They just needed to meet Sony in price so that the sales gap doesn't continue to widen. I do not agree with removing Kinect, though. It's the thing that separates you from the competition. Oh well. I've got my voice commands so I don't care. A small piece of me thinks this will benefit all users, as now they're going to be forced to design the dashboard around using a controller, too, not just voice.

Bundle will be $399 and goes on sale in June. Games with Gold launches on Xbox One in June. Exclusive discounts available to Gold members on 360/Xbox One starting June. Apps no longer require a Gold subscription:

Since the beginning, we have focused on delivering great games and entertainment experiences for you. Your feedback matters to us and it shapes the products and services we build. Your feedback showed up in the Xbox One console we launched back in November and in the monthly updates we’ve delivered since.

Today, we’re excited to share more ways your feedback is impacting the products we build.

First, beginning on June 9th, in all markets where Xbox One is sold, we will offer Xbox One starting at $399*. This is a new console option that does not include Kinect. For $399, our new Xbox One offering will continue to deliver access to the best blockbuster games like “Titanfall,” “Call of Duty: Ghosts,” “Forza Motorsport 5,” “Dead Rising 3,” and the upcoming “Watch Dogs,” “Destiny” and "Sunset Overdrive." You will also be able to access popular entertainment apps, such as Twitch, YouTube, and Netflix, as well as watch live TV and use OneGuide. Finally, you will continue to be able to use many of the unique features of Xbox One including the ability to get game invites while you watch TV, switch between games and entertainment apps, enjoy Twitch broadcasts, and upload your favorite gaming moments.

Next, we’re bringing more value to Xbox Live Gold members and offering all Xbox 360 and Xbox One owners access to entertainment apps whether or not you have an Xbox Live Gold membership. In early June, here is what you can expect from the new generation of Xbox Live:

Free games with Games with Gold**. Since Games with Gold launched on Xbox 360 a year ago, over 12 million people have enjoyed great free games, resulting in nearly 200 million hours of free fun playing Games with Gold titles. We’ve been learning from your feedback and have focused on making improvements each month to the selection of titles. To celebrate the one-year anniversary of Games with Gold for Xbox 360 and as a thank you for helping shape this program, members will receive an additional free Xbox 360 game in June. The Games with Gold titles for Xbox 360 in June are “Dark Souls,” “Charlie Murder” and a bonus game of “Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition.” We’re pleased to bring Games with Gold to Xbox Live Gold members on Xbox One in June. Members will have subscription-based access to free games ranging from top hits to breaking indie stars. The program will launch on Xbox One with “Max: The Curse of Brotherhood” and “Halo: Spartan Assault.” A single Gold membership will get you access to the free games for both Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Exclusive Discounts. Deals with Gold will also launch for Xbox One in June, delivering discounts for great games each month, with significant savings for Xbox Live Gold members. The first titles offered in June will include “Forza Motorsport 5,” “Ryse: Son of Rome,” and a few other surprises. In the coming months, we will offer significant savings of up to 50 – 75 percent off certain titles. This program will continue to be available for Xbox Live Gold members on Xbox 360. And new on Xbox One, we will launch a virtual VIP room exclusive to Xbox Live Gold members where we will feature free games, monthly deals, and other great benefits.

Popular entertainment apps will be available for all Xbox 360 and Xbox One owners. Xbox 360 has been a leader in delivering entertainment experiences for years, with over 170 global entertainment apps and experiences available today. We’re constantly adding new partners and experiences to the growing catalog on Xbox One. Coming in June, anyone with an Xbox will be able to access popular entertainment experiences – whether or not you have an Xbox Live Gold membership. This includes great gaming apps like Machinima, Twitch and Upload, popular video services like Netflix, Univision Deportes, GoPro, Red Bull TV and HBO GO, sports experiences like the NFL app for Xbox One, MLB.TV, NBA Game Time, NHL Game Center and more.*** Microsoft experiences including Internet Explorer, Skype, OneDrive and OneGuide will also be available to all Xbox customers.**** You can find a full list of apps and features that will be available below.

We’ve heard that you want more choices from Xbox One. You want a wide variety of options in your games and entertainment experiences and you also want options in your hardware selection.

To be clear, as we introduce this new Xbox One console option, Kinect remains an important part of our vision. Many of you are using Kinect for Xbox One every day. In fact, more than 80 percent of you are actively using Kinect, with an average of 120 voice commands per month on each console. Some of the most popular voice commands include “Xbox On,” “Xbox Broadcast” and “Xbox Record That.” We will continue to offer a premium Xbox One with Kinect bundle to deliver voice and gesture controls, biometric sign-in, instant personalization, instant scanning of QR codes, and enhanced features only available with Kinect in games such as “Kinect Sports Rivals,” “Just Dance 2014,” “Project Spark” and more.

If you buy Xbox One for $399 and later decide you want to have all the experiences Kinect enables, we will also offer a standalone sensor for Xbox One later this fall. We’ll share more details about the standalone Kinect for Xbox One in the coming months.

General feeling with people on Twitter is the Kinect is dying a quick death. Especially if they charge more than $100 for the standalone.
