Maybe. Could be the sources are wrong. This is the article that the Navy Sports Information Director, Scott Strasemeier, linked to in an email he sent out about the Army coaching situatuion at 2:01 PM yesterday:
http://www.wsav.com/story/24283758/b...monken-to-army
The article does say that Monken did interview for the position late last week, so Army may have decided on him. Now, if he accepts, and if they can work out a contract, well, that could be an issue. But Army officials at least seem to have Monken tagged as their man.
Alright, it's not a done deal yet. A new email sent out about Scott Strasemeier this morning:

It's now official. Jeff Monken is going to Army.

He really was the best man for the job. He is a true blood triple option man. Was an assistant at Navy during the Paul Johnson years, went with Johnson to Georgia Tech and since has been running the triple option to much success at Georgia Southern. If there's a man to get Army and their option offense back on track, he's the one. I dare say, I think the Army-Navy game just got more interesting in future years.
UMass fires Charley Molnar.
Merry Xmas, Charley.![]()
I heard a rumor that Mack Brown is pissed at UT and willing to coach again. Rumor went on to tie him to Nebraska.![]()
That rumor was squashed about three weeks ago![]()
The dude abides.
More rumors that Houston Texans are in talks with Penn State's Bill O'Brien. That might set the carousel in motion more than Texas (has so far).
Does PSU go after Al Golden, thus opening Miami job?
That's good. The conference needs the good coaches to stay on if they want to surpass the SEC & Pac-12.
Dallas Morning News' Chuck Carlton:
Sources: Texas begins to narrow coaching search with Jimbo Fisher, Art Briles among the names getting a harder look.
Vanderbilt’s James Franklin and Louisville’s Charlie Strong are also considered to be in the mix.
One source still refused to rule out Alabama’s Nick Saban as a possibility, although that may be a long shot. Other candidates could also emerge. Texas is working with the search firm of Korn/Ferry International during the process.
The sources indicated that a hire may not come until early January, after the bowls. Florida State is playing Auburn in the BCS title game on Jan. 6, while Baylor faces Central Florida in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl on New Year’s Day.
“Texas looks like they’re going to be patient about this,” one source said.
We'll find out for sure in the next few days. The newest reports I've seen, O'Brien has been in contact and discussions with the Texans. Some of them were making it sound like the only thing left was working out the deal (years/money). We'll find out one way or the other soon enough.
Schiano just was fired by Tampa Bay. Rumor has it, he might go to Penn State of O'Brien leaves for Houston in the NFL.
The dude abides.
Breaking news on ESPN. Texans agree to deal to hire Bill O'Brien.
