But with that converter that you can get from Newegg, it's still possible. Basically it's going to come down to if you need to spend an extra $40 or not.

I MIGHT be wrong on this but I think using a converter that strips the HCDP (or whatever its called) protection is a Federal Crime.

That's how you use the Elgato on PS3 now.

I thought the Elgato plugs in via component on the PS3 thus no protection? But its been awhile since I fiddled with it.

Elgato uses HDMI, not component. Hauppauge uses component.

No... the Elgato uses HDMI or an A/V cable. On one end it has Elgato's proprietary plugin to the device and on the other it has the PS3/Sony style A/V plugin like a component cable uses. It's the one in the front right of this image (laying with an HDMI cable)

But you can still use HDMI with it on the PS3 with the converter, correct?

Look I'm not tech savy but my understanding of Elgato on PS3 was its a component feed not an HDMI feed. You plug in to the component portion of the PS3 and then through the box or whatever something "magic" happens which allows you to use an HDMI input into your t.v./monitor. However, I don't think the box somehow magically turns the component signal into an HDMI one.

I think it's an HDMI feed, but Sony doesn't allow straight up HDMI game recording; which is why that converter box was needed in order to use HDMI.

Seeing the PS Vita TV in action really just sold me on desperately wanting it to come to the U.S.
