No... the Elgato uses HDMI or an A/V cable. On one end it has Elgato's proprietary plugin to the device and on the other it has the PS3/Sony style A/V plugin like a component cable uses. It's the one in the front right of this image (laying with an HDMI cable)

But you can still use HDMI with it on the PS3 with the converter, correct?

Look I'm not tech savy but my understanding of Elgato on PS3 was its a component feed not an HDMI feed. You plug in to the component portion of the PS3 and then through the box or whatever something "magic" happens which allows you to use an HDMI input into your t.v./monitor. However, I don't think the box somehow magically turns the component signal into an HDMI one.
Seeing the PS Vita TV in action really just sold me on desperately wanting it to come to the U.S.
