I have had rechargeable batteries wear out in all types of products, from remotes, cellphones, individual AA cells, outdoor lawn equipment, controller packs, etc.

I'm sure they can be taken apart. Depends on how they wire up the battery.......will it be hard-wired such that soldering is required (easy enough for me to do but annoying) or be connected via cable connector? I have all types of security bits to get past the "security screws" that various products use, but not everyone does. Lastly, just depends how they assemble the thing. Hell, what if they use bonding adhesive to put them together instead of screws? Entirely possible as a cost-saving measure and if they are thinking of them as "commodity" items that get thrown away versus kept for the life of the console.........
