PSN isn't going to be free. With all the shit that they're making available through it now, there's no fuckin' way it's gonna be free anymore.

So, EVERYONE that has a PS4 will have streaming access to their old content. Don't want to pay $50 a year for that content? Fine. Go pay $40 a year to most likely not have access to your old stuff on Microsoft's service.

I can almost guarantee you PSN will be free. That's their whole thing over Microsoft. Online gaming is free. I'm pretty sure they even confirmed it in one of the articles I read yesterday. Will they have a premium service with optional features? Well yeah, but the main portion of it will almost certainly be free.

Your last paragraph makes no sense whatsoever. Why should I have to pay a fee just to access the games I already paid for? That's like buying a house outright and then making payments on it again. I certainly wouldn't pay $50 a year(or any amount) to access my arcade titles I bought on the PS3, and I'm sure as hell not going to pay $50 a year(or any amount) to access the games I already bought on 360, either. Why would I condone Microsoft doing it when I'm clearly against Sony doing it?

Man June just cant soon enough though. I'll be away sadly by then hopefully ( enlisting ) So oh well. Y'all know its going to be a long summer waiting on the ps4. I just hope the Madden and NCAA also MLB games advanced way more then they are now. It would be sweet to see move control in football next or some how implant the move with all the positions in football and baseball etc.

I think online gaming on the PSN will always be free. It's the extra things like streaming for backwards compatibilty that will be PS+ things. Since I've been a happy PS+ member since day one, my cost isn't going to go up on it.

Not to poke a whole in your argument but you would still have to pay taxes to the government for your house/land but your right I see the same tiered approach a limited "free" PSN and the one with all of these cool bells and whistles being PS+ or whatever they want to call it.

    More 'highlights' below:
I understand the whole exclusivity stuff because you're trying to get people buy the game on your console over other consoles, but I seriously hate that shit. Nothing like fucking over half the gaming world with exclusive features or DLC for games not being released on both systems. Time-based exclusivity is bad enough, even worse is permanent exclusivity. Now I'm paying the same price as those on the other console, but not getting the same shit. This exclusivity shit needs to die. Put out the same game with the same features and let the public decide with their wallets which system they want to buy it for.

I'd still be surprised if they let the individual switch it out freely. MS has been charging crazy prices for the high amount hard drives on 360, and people are still buying because it's the only option for larger drives. Sony is missing out on so much money. Between the drives and other things they don't do that MS does, Sony is missing out on boatloads of money.

On why no viewing of console:

You know, that’s really interesting. I’ve heard that from multiple reporters and shame on me that I didn’t see that as a big issue. They’ll see it soon enough. I’m real proud of the fact that we’re talking about [launching in] holiday 2013 and we’ve already got a lot of detail out there, and a lot of game play, in February. But I was so focused on the content that when I think of the console I think of what comes through the screen, not the device that it emanates from. I just think there’s a lot of natural curiosity: What’s the controller gonna look like? What’s the box gonna look like? We made a conscious decision that wasn’t going to be a part of the first reveal, but I would look for E3 as a time when you’ll get a good look at it. Or sooner.
    Other interesting quotes:

If you wanna have an event to talk about multimedia capabilities, we’ll proudly stand up and list all the media partners that we have, and the fact that we’re the number one most used Netflix device around the world. But the 3.1 million people that streamed [Wednesday's event] and that stayed up at all hours depending on what country they were in, they were there to see games. People that want to hear about multimedia applications don’t stay up until 4:00 in the morning to see presentations. We know that the people who were watching were gamers. We know that the people that are the primary purchasers of our boxes are gamers, and that is the audience that we cater to first and foremost.
But I will stack up our non-game services with any competitor out there. I think we’re gonna have more than our fair share of great content outside of the gaming world. And I think the other really unique opportunity with this is there’s always been limitations. You know, game development costs so much, which means that games have to retail for sixty dollars, which means people have to cater to the masses and the number of genres that can be introduced needs to be fairly narrow. Now with machines like PlayStation 4 you can have free to play games, you can have 99 cent games, you can have indie developers selling $9.99 digital games. So it’s no longer the case that if you don’t have a 150 person team and you don’t have a $50 million budget, don’t bother making a game. I think the opportunity in the living room on the console is greater than it’s ever been. It’s a real renaissance in gaming.
Well, it’s all there. It’s the ability to stream your Netflix and your Hulu and your MLB.TV and your NHL and your NFL Sunday Ticket. It’s the ability to get Video Unlimited and Music Unlimited and the ability to have a Blu Ray Player built into it, and to stream any form of digital or disc based entertainment. I still think that’s a very big part of the equation. But I don’t think the future of PlayStation 4 and our success is gonna be determined by selling it as a non-game device.

It's literally the only news going on in "Other Video Games" right now. When MS announces the 720 I fully expect the 1st page to be nothing but 720 related threads.

What you are doing is the equivalent of a political party griping about all the news coverage being about the other side during the other side's national convention. Complain all you want but it is what it is.

Do developers pay a smaller fee for releasing games in "launch windows"? For all the complaining over Wii U sales I think people forget how long it takes to build up a userbase with the high initial prices of new consoles. There just aren't many people out there to buy that first set of games. I would have to think it's awful hard to make money on those first generation titles.

This. There is NO WAY in hell I would touch NCAA or Madden in the first release (even second release, maybe longer) on the PS4/720, after the crap that was the first couple games this generation. And I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Yeah EA is really going to have to step its game up b/c as amazing as the other games look I could honestly see myself saying good bye to NCAA/Madden and get my gaming fix w/o American football. I'd probably give FIFA in year one. The bonus hopefully this time is everyone can try it before they buy it if they want with the "trial" thing discussed via stream/download.

Don't bet on it. With Microsoft's recent obsession with the casual market, it would not shock me one bit if the only exclusive core game they announced was a new Halo.

FIFA 14 on PS4? That might get my attention, but I'll lean towards waiting for FIFA 15.

That said, I have a feeling that this generation is going to go much better than the current one. Mistakes were made and lessons were learned. Hopefully this will mean very good things are ahead for sports gamers. We'll see.

To be clear, I don't have doubts that FIFA 14 would be strong on PS4, it's just whether it's strong enough to get me to buy the system and a game that I'll already own on PS3.
