Nah, JB, I don't mind either, I just fail to see the hate for the PS3 ones that some people have.

Yeah the only thing I hate is the flashing cycle of lights on the 360 when the battery is half full. Wish there was an option to turn that off that doesn't involve duct tape.

Crossing my fingers that the HDD is the same size so I can just pop in pop out the 1TB "upgrade" I made to my PS3.

But dev kits and retail kits are two completely different monsters.

I would guess the minimum retail kit will be 500GB.

Now it supposedly has 8GB of RAM? Something new is leaked every day and it's somehow different than the day before.

I'll just save myself the trouble - barring any unforeseen massive fuck ups, I'll have both of them within the first 2 or so years of them launching.

That's true. Are you "privileged" people allowed to discuss at all whether/to what extent EA has started working on the next next-gen? I would presume they have the dev kits from both MS and Sony but just curious how much they have already started to transition.

Pretty sure they have kits, but I haven't heard a single word. Probably very hush hush.

or its the teaser for the teaser for the teaser for PS4. as a Sony "guy" I really hope they beat MS to the punch this time b/c it really hurt this generation being beaten to the market by nearly a year.

not to mention that the ps3 was like $200 more expensive than the 360.

yeah that didn't help either although the consumers who paid that much won out in the end as you ended up winning the blue ray v. hd dvd "battle"

What's this? A Sony invite to "see the future" of PlayStation on February 20th in New York City? From the looks of the very tease-y clip Sony's released (found just beyond the break), it's clearly PlayStation related. Perhaps involving a certain codenamed "Orbis" project? The company's official PlayStation Twitter account says "See the future" and pushes followers to this website, where invitees can sign up and everyone can see the aforementioned video.

We'll find out soon enough what the tease is about, as we've just finished up registration. From the video ... well, the future features the same triangle, circle, square, and cross buttons, apparently. A recent report detailed some specs for Sony's rumored next PlayStation, including an eight core AMD64 CPU and an AMD R10XX GPU -- specs that may change dramatically before we hear anything official. Could this be the first volley in Sony's rollout of the next PlayStation?

The evidence points in that direction, but it's unclear how much we'll find out on the evening of the 20th. One Sony VP said we could hear something about "a big secret" ahead of this June's E3 game industry trade show, but Sony head Kaz Hirai recently told UK newspaper The Times that Sony may just wait for its competition -- namely Microsoft -- to make the first move. Again, we'll know much more when we attend Sony's 6PM ET event on February 20th in New York City.

Update: The Wall Street Journal has added more rumors to the mix, citing its always helpful "people familiar with the matter" who claim that not only will Sony debut its next gen console at the event, but that it will be released later this year. Additionally, it claims that Sony will integrate more social features into the console this time around (Home 2.0 anyone?), as well as changes in "how users interact with the machine." Finally, it claims both Sony and Microsoft had considered discless consoles this gen, but are keeping physical media in the mix for at least one more go-round. Of course, whatever the truth is, we're just a few weeks away from finding out.

More info about the PS4, some of which I hadn't heard before...
    http://www.edge-online.com/news/playstation-4-revealed/

    The controller

Sources close to the hardware have revealed to us that PS4 will ship with a redesigned controller which is the same size as an existing DualShock but features a small touchpad in place of the existing Select, Start and PS buttons. The tech is based on Vita’s rear touchpad, and is similarly responsive in use.

A new Share button on the controller will, when pressed, launch a new feature that will allow screenshots and video to be distributed online. The PS4 hardware will continually record the most recent 15 minutes of onscreen action (with no processing penalty, claims our source), which users will then be able to edit and broadcast via the Internet.

Report: The Next PlayStation Will Record Gameplay And Let You Share It Online

In the wake of news that Sony will announce the next PlayStation on February 20, rumors and reports are starting to circulate as journalists report everything they've learned about the PlayStation 4, code-named Orbis.

Here's an interesting report from Edge, who say they've learned the PS4 will be out later this year for the U.S. and Japan (and in early 2014 for Europe). They also say the PS4's controller comes with a touchpad where the start and select buttons should be, and that there's a new "Share" button, which will let you share screenshots and videos online.

This matches up with much of what we reported last week ago about the PS4. We knew there would be a Share button, but we didn't know what it would do. This new report helps shed some light on that.

According to Edge, the PS4 will inherently record and save "the most recent 15 minutes of onscreen action," which you can then edit and share using the console's sharing function. Edge also says Orbis will be more powerful than Microsoft's next console, codenamed Durango, at least on paper.

Mostly rehash above but apparently PS4 may NOT be backwards compatible.
