Steeler has it right in essence a lawyer could easily argue EA is putting out another way to have players' "likeness" to be used without their permission. Moreover, I suspect the settlement language states that EA agrees to no longer engage in behavior stealing athletes' likeness without their permission.

Interesting to see some liberals attack their own base (plaintiff's trial lawyers). Me like.

I'm no lawyer, but this doesn't seem like front page news. I mentioned or asked a while back, why on earth would XBOX1 or EA want to go through this again? Why would they touch this with a 10' pole?

There's too much legal baggage, the only way I can see them entertaining the idea is if the game was re-released as some sort of special edition and EA would make enough money on that "new edition" to pay off the ensuing law suits.

It's all fine and dandy that we "vote" on what the BC games will be, but when it comes down to video game companies losing money...they could give a shit about what we want or vote for...they aren't in business to get sued and lose profits. The bottom line rules the day, if they are going to lose money (by possible law suits) why on earth would they agree to that upfront?

If they did, I would be convinced 100% without a doubt they are complete idiots.

True but if you are going to include the game on the list to be voted for and if the game is in the top five pages and has one of the highest comment counts... you better be prepared to state WHY the game is not going to be backwards compatible. Simple solution... don't let people vote on it. Not all xbox games were listed.

Exactly. If EA isn't even going to entertain the thought of enabling it to be BC on the One, then come out right now and say so so we can move on from this bullshit.

And the whole "violating the settlement" claim is bullshit. There is not a single settlement agreement or nondisclosure clause that would keep EA from simply releasing a statement saying they will not be allowing NCAA to be backwards compatible on Xbox One.

If they weren't going to do it solely because of the previous agreement and terms, fine. But they don't even have to give a reason why not. All they have to do is say they won't be supporting NCAA as a backwards compatible title on Xbox One and leave it at that. At least then we'll fucking know whether or not this is all a waste of time.

To say they can't even just say "Sorry, we will not be supporting NCAA 14 as a BC title on Xbox One" and literally nothing else because of some obscure nondisclosure clause in a settlement from years ago is nothing but bullshit.

Just my 2 cents, but it seems like a lost cause.

It probably is, but it can all be settled by EA saying yes or no. Will it ever be backwards compatible. Yes or no. They don't even have to expand beyond that. Just say, yes or no.

They could so easily bring this game back. All they'd have to do is randomize the rosters.

Hell, they could take a step back. Instead of rating every player, focus on position groups. Rate each position group 1-10 and that'll determine where the randomization occurs. ( Alabama's rbs would be ranked as a 10. All of their rbs would be randomly ranked between 75-99, for example)

It's such an easy decision to make and the game would make a profit if continued.

I still think there could be an issue with licensing. Normally sports licenses are yearly deals. EA couldn't reproduce the game right now imo without NCAA permission. Not 100% sure on that but it seems it would probably be an issue.

That's another excellent point. If memory serves EA's contract with the CLC has expired and/or was terminated when the lawsuit was ongoing. I doubt EA is paying for a license it can no longer use in a video game.

Therefore, the NCAA/CLC could sue EA and MS for using their logos without their permission.

Its just a can of worms that someone at MS didn't think through and I suspect MS and/or EA suits have quietly put the axe on this one ever coming to XB1.

You guys need to root for 1 of 2 things: #1 NCAA collapses and the colleges allow payers to be paid; #2 NCAA changes its rules and allows compensation for the use of athletes' likeness.

I think Rudy/CLW is on point in regards to the CLC license.

The list itself is pretty telling. 104 games and only 4 sports/racing titles that have professional licensing involved. Also a lot of mediocre games thrown in to fluff that total. No Red Dead Redemption or GTA 4? That is a bigger oversight than NCAA 14.

    Bellator: MMA Onslaught
    DiRT 3
    DiRT Showdown
    NBA JAM: On Fire Edition

Backwards compatibility is a loser for sport game publishers. They want you playing the latest and greatest with all that fresh DLC to devour. Even though NCAA is no longer being made, they would rather you play Madden 16 so you can play MUT and buy DLC.

You can always look at it as a cup half full. Maybe NCAA 14 is not BC and EA is silent because they are working on renewing licenses so they can make NCAA 2017.

As soon as a football team or basketball team refuses to play a game, especially in a big spotlight like a bowl or Final Four, over the issue of getting paid.......they'll get paid. Would not be surprised if it happens in the next 10 years. The money is too big for the NCAA and universities to not get whacked and make changes if that happens. Just ask Missouri.

What about the NFL 2k game that everyone raves about? Was it ever on XBOX360?

That won't happen either - #1 2K no longer has an NFL license and #2 EA/MS/NFL have some sort of pact with the Devil to love each other for all eternity.

I disagree. If I had a 360 I could BUY it right now on Marketplace. The game is STILL for sale for 360 online. The game is NOT being made for xbox1 it is simply being allowed to be played on an xbox1. Heck, you cannot even buy 360 games on the 1. You have to buy them online from the xbox marketplace. If the game was no longer for sale on marketplace then I would say you are probably correct but I am looking at the website and I can buy and download NCAA 14 right now for $19.99... of I had a 360. Now something like NCAA BBALL 10 is no longer for sale so I can see what that would not be backwards compatible. Personally I think this is just EA trying to keep a low profile AND have people continue to buy Madden.

I thought I read somewhere here that the clc license didn't even cover every school. That some of the bigger schools had a separate deal and didn't want the clc to represent them?

All Pro Football 2K8 was on the 360. Not licensed by the NFL and only had legends plus fictional players.

Well we're not getting NCAA now so it's time to just focus on what we will have.

I want to replay Gears 1, never finished the story and only played online for 2, 3, and Judgement I got cheap but never touched

There are a couple of the XBLA games that will be cool to play on the 1 here and there as well. I will have to agree, there was quite a bit of fluff to get the total to 104.

Big day tomorrow. The New Xbox Experience goes public! It seems to be ready. There has been daily updates every single night for the past 8 or 9 days for us in the preview program as they work out the last kinks and issues. The Known Issues list has been getting smaller and smaller with each update.
