You said embellish. Now you say "make it up", implying false or lying statements. Those are completely different. While there are cases where the courts have upheld that ideas like "fair" or "balanced" news reporting is largely in the eye of the beholder and what one person believes is false is fairly balanced to another... the latter statement is completely false. Libel law would easily stop news outlets, especially newspapers, from knowingly printing false stories, especially of this level. And I would find it highly unlikely that the FBI would allow such a wilful violation of libel law.

Unless, you know, everybody in the world is in this together except the general public.
