I did preface that with "Fwiw" but, to be honest, I wouldn't be shocked if something stupid was said. Hell, look at the tweet cdj posted above if you don't believe some of these morons will say just about anything.

I saw it and know you took it with a grain of salt. Like you said, he is an Ohio State guy, so.......because spelling is hard:

Though I guess they were the "lesser men" Harbaugh referred to in his presser, since they went down when tripping and he didn't.

If I was advising Jones, I'd tell him to go to the NFL. If he only backs up, he'll still learn more than as Ohio State's third string.

Though FWIW one of the Vegas sites has Jones as the favorite to be starting quarterback against Virginia Tech.

She tripped with her marker: http://nypost.com/2015/01/12/jimmy-k...-shotgun-sign/

That halftime thing with Kimmel was terrible. It wasn't funny or entertaining. It was really lame.

The entire countdown of signs during the Rose & Sugar Bowls was incredibly lame. So glad I watched the Marching Bands perform instead.

The only good sign I've seen all season was one during the Rose Bowl pregame. I don't even remember it now though.

It's a weak QB draft. He should go now. I don't even know any other QBs besides Winston, Mariotta, and Hundley.

The problem is he's so not ready for the NFL that if you don't show good things in the first couple years the NFL just spits you out. I think he would be better off transferring to a small school, get more experience and then be a high pick the following year. If he goes pro now he would be a 4th rounder. Maybe someone gambles earlier but he can make a lot more guaranteed money if he can play well for another year in college.

Yep. Highest round I've heard he might be drafted is 3rd round, maybe very late 2nd of he is very lucky. He'd be pissing away millions of guaranteed money if he stayed and played well enough to go first round in the future. He doesn't want to be the backup again at Ohio State, so he'll go be a career backup in the NFL (no one is going to draft him and make him a starter, he'll be a backup behind someone for years).

And while he is very talented and while he played a hell of a three games, he's not going to be ready for the NFL. I don't see this ending well.

Anyone else getting vibes that this kid is going to end up crashing and burning as a football player? He spends all season as a backup, gets his moment to shine in the final three games of the season, says after the national title game that he is coming back to Ohio State next year, then two days later, now he's doing a special press conference live on TV to announce his decision on whether to go pro or stay.

In the process, he's taking on a vibe of a mix of LeBron James (the Decision) and Johnny Douchebag (so self important he needs a live televised press conference instead just announcing it like Mariota and Winston and countless others have). His head has exploded in these last couple days and I have a feeling it's going to be his downfall in sports.

I'll be damned, Cardale Jones is returning to Ohio State next year. I still don't know why the hell he needed a press conference for it. He just said "I don't know why you guys made it such a big deal", they didn't, he did by needing to announce it at a damn press conference. Just have the university put out a press release announcing that you are returning to school an be done with it. Why go back to your old high school (or wherever this is that he's at) and do a whole giant nationally televised press conference just to announce you are returning to school.

Neither is expected to be ready for spring practices.

The press conference wasn't his idea, natch.

He wouldn't be the first Clevelandite to get horrible advice about airing a decision on television.

Yeah, I just learned that last night while listening to Fox Sports Radio at work. At the time though, without knowing that, those are very reasonable views on him holding a nationally televised press conference just to announce if he was staying in school or going pro. I can guarantee I wasn't the only one thinking that while watching that press conference.

Now, as for the horrible advice, you got that right! And no, he is not the first. As for whoever suggested such a press conference to Jones, that person should be repeatedly slapped. And Jones needs to find someone else to get advice from. He still not 100% innocent in my opinion though. Yes, the press conference may have been the idea of someone else, but he still could have turned it down, just announce his decision through a press release by the university. He may not have had the idea to do the press conference, but he still agreed to it and showed up, so he was complicit.

I don't have a problem with press conferences. We build people up to be mega-stars always shoving nice and cameras in people's faces so I have no issue with it. No one was hurt so it's not a big deal.

FWIW, I watched the Film Room coverage tonight, and two of the four coaches said they would go for it rather than kick. In part because if you don't get it then you've forced Oregon to go the length of the field.

Also, they didn't actually go for it. They drew Oregon offside. For all we know, they were going to take a penalty.

More unnecessary was the final touchdown with :28 to go. Just take a knee and end it.

If King James wasn't smart enough to turn down a televised decision, then a 22 year old kid isn't going to be. Especially if, and this is purely speculation, the person providing the pressure is his former coach and mentor Ted Ginn Sr.

But yes, you weren't the only one to think it, not by a long shot. SBNation had a hilarious take on it.
