How? Aside from a lone incident in 2009 or 2010, I can't remember a time when Xbox Live has ever been down for a 24 hour period, which was the intended check in time if they had gone with the online always console. People would've been able to play their games just fine as long as it wasn't down for more than 24 hours.

Also, you've already seen that backlash when PSN was down for a month.

WRONG. Prior to the 180 publishers could REQUIRE an always online connection if they so desired if they spun it as "using the cloud".

This is the article where they informed customers they were reversing the always online stuff. Exact quote:

An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.

Also, games can still require a constant connection to play them on BOTH consoles. Destiny is one of them.

It probably wont happen in the US. In the US, it's really not that big of a gap between the two systems. It's overseas where they need to really cut the price to try and get it going. It's pretty well dead outside of America.
