Oh what a surprise. Clear Channel's laying off more people today. This is becoming a 4-6 month tradition for them. They laid off people last spring, laid off more in October and now today. At this rate there's not going to be anyone left. I sort of hope a rival company like Maverick Media or someone would buy out our market so we no longer have to deal with this shit 2-3 times a year.

Debt most likely. Clear Channel is swimming in debt. They have a big payment coming up soon (early 2013 if I am not mistaken). They have been buying up markets left and right all over the US over the years, adding divisions left and right over the years (CC Outdoors, television stations through the 90s and most of the 2000s, CC News Network, CC Traffic, their subsidiaries in Fox Sports Radio, Premiere Radio Network) and it's been catching up to them recently in the debt they have amassed.

Everything has been changed over the years. Corporate now runs the music cycles, so you theoretically could hear the same song being played on two different Clear Channel stations with the same genre at the same time (barring time differences from commercials, liners, etc), almost everything is voice tracked these days (the only live in studio air shifts for our market is the morning drive on all three stations and an afternoon drive show on our Hot AC station from 2-6pm), everything else during the day is voicetracked by Premiere Network talent (a single person voicetracking for loads of stations in a given genre all over the nation) and syndicated programming at night.

Some things have been changed for the better, but a lot for the worse. We're already running on a skeleton crew in our market. We have four stations in our market, three of them here in town and one in the next town over. For our three stations here in town, we literally have three people to do the morning shows and that's it. If someone wants to take vacation or is sick or something, our country station guy shifts over to either of the other stations (whichever one is without an on air talent that day), and I come in and fill in on the country station. Beyond that, there is no one else. We have the three guys for the mornings shows and me as backup for them and that's it, no one else in line to jump on air when/if needed.

Same thing in our other station in the next town over. There's the one morning show guy, and the only backups are me (which I usually fill in on the morning show for holidays and the sort as they do the morning show there every weekday, holidays or not. I've filled in on the morning show over there on Christmas, on Thanksgiving, on the Fourth of July, on New Years, etc) and the guy who does the midday shift from 9am-2pm. Generally, the midday guy would shift to the morning show and I or one other person would fill in on the midday show with no one else after us as an option to fill in. That's how bare bones we are in our market. It's starting to become like that all over with all of these layoffs.

what a fucking shitty, pain in the ass kind of day. it starts out pouring down rain, and of course i had to work outside....it got kind of better when the sun came out for a couple of hours.....but then i got the word at lunchtime that i was being laid off until further notice....and then it started pouring down rain again.

I find it funny when you search for something with scam next to it, the entire search is filled with marketing ploys denying that it is a scam, plus a link to pay for their marketing tips LOL

Case in point. Body by Vi or Visalus. Everyone is on Facebook gloating about a free BMW they just got from the company. Just do a Google search for "body by vi scam" and the results are hilarious. If it isn't someone's site to sign you up for Body By Vi, it's some dude claiming to be a marketing insider and siding with them, yet titling their web page (Body by Vi is a Scam)

If it's too good to be true, eventually it will go up in smoke.

i hate family get-togethers. i'm the oldest of all the grandchildren who isnt married yet, and i have a lot of cousins who are less than 10 years old so needless to say, my parents made me play as the babysitter. all night long, i had to play crazy ninja, or scare the girls, or lets run around in a 20x20 foot room and play tag, or some other stupid shit that i'm too old for. i had one little cousin bugging the shit out of me, asking if he could play my xbox, or with all my old Lego models that i still have together, or asking if i could set up the wii for him to play, or going through all of my xbox games and asking which ones i dont play anymore so that i could give them to him. fucking little twit.....pissed me off all night long.
