If you go to the full editor, you'll see the buttons above the post box for tables.

I see 'em, but the boxes are grayed out and I can't click on them. I don't see anywhere else to add a table unless I'm just blind.

Click on the A/A button in the top left corner, that changes it into WYSIWYG mode. Then you can put in tables.
