From 1UP.com:
Since the PlayStation Network breach in April, which resulted in PSN being taken offline for the better part of a month, many users have been concerned each time the service goes down for maintenance out of fear it has been attacked once again. PSN isn't down today, but if you find yourself locked out of your account, you may be one of the users whose account has been logged into by hackers.
Philip Reitinger, the former DHS official who was hired last month as Sony's Chief Information Security Officer, revealed news on the latest hack attempt in a post on the PlayStation Blog last night.
"We want to let you know that we have detected attempts on Sony Entertainment Network, PlayStation Network and Sony Online Entertainment ('Networks') services to test a massive set of sign-in IDs and passwords against our network database," he wrote. "These attempts appear to include a large amount of data obtained from one or more compromised lists from other companies, sites or other sources."
Because there were so many failed attempts to log in, Sony believes this list of usernames and passwords comes from "another source and not from our Networks." In other words, it doesn't think these logins came from a list obtained when PSN and SOE were attacked in April.
A timeline for when this occurred wasn't outlined. It was a fairly small number of users who were affected in terms of percentages -- less than 0.1 percent -- but that still translates to about 93,000 accounts worldwide. Roughly 60,000 of those belong to PSN and Sony Entertainment Network members, while the other 33,000 are accounted for by SOE users. All of these accounts have been locked and are currently inaccessible while Sony reviews them for "unauthorized access."
Credit cards are not at risk. Anyone who is charged for an unauthorized purchase will be eligible for a refund from Sony.
If you're among the PSN members who have been locked out, look for an email coming from Sony which will instruct you to change your password. SOE members will also receive an email about validating account information and getting the account turned back on.
Reitinger ended the post by encouraging users to be wary of potentially fraudulent activities online and to have a unique password for each website and service you visit.
Wtf hackers give this crap up...why are you so stupid?! Go hack and take down child porn sites and crap like that....do something good! Steal those creeps credit card info, not us innocent gamers!
Just bought a PS3! mainly for a spare Blue Ray and the Sony exclusives.
Had to use Gamestop (shudders) and they screwed me pretty good by forgetting to put a disc in one of the games (3d Dot Game Heros). 50 miles away and they will not mail it to me. Should have known better regarding open new games. Screw it I ordered it from Amazon because I really want this game.
I purchased MLB 2011 used, trading in MLB2K11. Got the combo Uncharted pack (Uncharted 3 just pre-ordered on Amazon), also got Heavy Rain Used and looking forward to it as I played and enjoyed Indigo Prophecy.
PSN is BDSooner72 same as my XBL acct
bdoughty,
welcome to ps3!The dark side of covnsoles ha.Add me too stovy50 I think I may pick up RS3 today I'm bored with my other games.Don't for get to get batman on Tue.Sorry you had bad luck with game stop I usually never do.
I used to be the same way, until I played KZ3 and S4. Those games completely ruined my love for Sony. I can count the number of times I've turned my PS3 on in the past 6 months on one hand. It doesn't help when I do turn it on that I have to look at the dinosaur of a user interface, and then realize that I can't even talk to friends unless I'm playing the same game as them. Ugh. Sony had better have a much bigger emphasis on online interface and features if they want my money for the PS4.
I had a PS3 when the first came out and agree that the UI is... I would have figured it had changed by now. I also hate how you download something and then have to site and wait for it to install. That said I love the new design of the console.
Only played The Show so far and absolutely love it. I am a High Heat fan and need my zone batting. Also the metered pitching is my favorite.
Is any one playing Resistance 3 ?'
I think Sony is doing just fine for there online stuff IMO.You don't have pay to play online(bonus)Most servers are pretty descent. The things that both you guys like the group chat thing or the install are those really that big of a deal?I could see the group chat thing.Would be nice. The install thing just go and do something else while you it installs don't nit pick at stuff like some do. I'm more of a Sony fan then 360.The games are more graphic wise better on ps3 then xbox IMO.

I install all my games to the HD on my 360, patience is not the issue. It is that you have to download and then install everything. I would have to disagree with you greatly on the graphics end, especially sports games and even more EA Sports games.

Most games are just pretty darn close but in head to Head comparisons LOT and Eurogamer, the winner more often is the 360. Especially when it comes to sports games.
Paying like $3 a month for the features that Live users get is more than worth the value, so it's hardly bogus.
...and yes, those features are a HUGE deal. If I'm logged into Live, 9 times out of 10 I'm in a party of several people. It makes hopping into a single game so much easier and takes the hassle out of having to organize everything. When I get an achievement, it synchronizes itself immediately. When I get a trophy, I have to wait 20 seconds for the thing to synchronize. Game updates are a real disparity. It's never taken me more than 5 seconds to update a game on 360. It's taken me in excess of an hour before to update a PS3 game on the same internet connection.
Graphics, meh, never did care and never will. If Sony were to ever get an exclusive like Gears of War, I would care. Gears of War and Halo are both examples of world class online shooters, something Sony doesn't have. They were damn close with Resistance: Fall of Man, Killzone 2, and Uncharted 2, but all 3 of those had sequels that went majorly in the wrong direction. I have my eye on Starhawk and Dust 514, but that's about it at this point. KZ3 and S4 left a really sour taste in my mouth.
Thanks you just reminded me of the other thing I hated about the PS3. updates on the 360 are small and fast, while on the PS3 they are much larger and slower.
Agreed on XBL. The setup is great and you can always find a cheap deal on 12 months. Sony Online is free and you get what you pay for. Even then you are reminded over and over and over, that you can pay for PSN and get special things.
Halo a world class shooter, please.More shooters are far are better then Halo.MW series is by far as an example.I would still take the ps3 titles over 360 any day of the week. But I have always been PlayStation guy since the begging. But we all have our own opinions on what system is better. Those pictures are a poorly taken if if you ask me.
They are captured straight from the system on the highest HD settings for each console with a capture card. Uncompressed .bmp images.
They even have a flowchart and specs on how they do it.

Maybe there will actually be a reason to go into Home now... maybe.
Yeah. "Maybe". Gimme Trophies and we'll talk![]()
This is almost what they should have done in the first place with Home.
Still have not touched PS Home, think I am going to keep it that way.
I messed around with Home a few times (mostly bowling) but the inability to track progress and win those coveted trophies turned me off quickly.![]()
