Demos are a waste of time. I never download a demo for something unless I know dick about it and usually it's just XBLA games that I'm interested enough in to download the demo. With so many people getting their hands on the game and immediately creating videos of stuff online, I can waste a few days on something I'm not entirely sure about getting and just watch videos online of the game to determine if I'll like it or not. Reviews of video games and demos of video games do not make me want to buy them or not. Demos are usually so far behind the actual game, it's pointless and reviews are so subjective they're also pointless.

So, long story short, I don't care if the demo sucks or not. I know for a fact I'm buying this game because it's been the only sports game (2k11) to actually get play outside of the first month or two that I've had it. All the additions to the game make it THAT much better (though the changes to how dribbling work sound even more complicated than before, which isn't good).

Did I make it up, or has it been announced that 2k12 is going to have an online association mode?

Awesome. Thanks Smooth. I went looking and I was starting to think that I was imagining things (or wishful thinking) when I couldn't find anything.

Any interested in giving this a try? Maybe we could create a TGT league or something. I might actually have to buy the 360 version of this game and purchase another year of XBL for it.

I'd definitely be interested for it on 360. I've had a lot of fun with Association in 2K11, so I'm game for Online Association in 2K12.

Well, it remains to be seen how much of the offline Association translates to the online version. If it's like Madden's where there's no free agency, no contracts, and only a draft, then screw that. Unless the Online Association at least contains FA, contracts, and most of all of the offline Association stuff, I'd probably not be as interested as before.

Well I can finally say goodbye to NCAA BB 10 and its freezing. I really enjoyed the demo but what I liked best was the for post up. They went simplistic and it works very well. Still hate the shot stick so buttons for me.

Now THIS, is a job well done. Football is different of course, but both ncaa and madden could take pointers from the broadcast elements of 2k. It COMPLETELY immerses you in the experience of a game to have this level of detail.

Being that the game drops in a week, I'm surprised we havn't heard more about the Online Association feature. Online Association will only be worth while if they fixed their awful servers in the process. All in all, I can't wait for this game to drop

I figure they'll have a few more developer's blogs about it and some other stuff before the game hits the streets.

NBA 2K12 To Have Legend-Based DLC; Historic Teams Online for a Price.

When the news was first reported that historic teams would not be available to play online in NBA 2K12 that was a big disappointment. Considering that rosters are largely the same as last year due to the lockout they would have provided some much needed variety and been the incentive to play online. 2K Sports didn’t really comment on the subject to explain why that was – but now it appears to be evident. The option will be available through paid downloadable content called “The Legends Showcase”.

The image above was tweeted out by someone with a copy of the game and it shows what is being included in the DLC. An outdoor environment in Times Square is the locale for what will be historic team match-ups online and special legend-based challenges. No word on how much the DLC will cost as of yet but it does look like it will be available on release day.

This represents a shift away from the company’s avoidance of holding content to release as DLC – something that was inevitable. This may very well provide value as an add-on but it may not have been the year to go this route considering many consumers don’t view the base product as desirable because of the ongoing lockout.

If EA had tried something like this with Madden, the internet would melt.

NatureBoy - I can understand the vast majority of that being DLC. Having to pay for classic teams online is pretty disappointing though. I think overall interest is down for basketball games with the NBA season in limbo, which is pretty disappointing considering both NBA 2K12 and NBA JAM: OFE look to be a lot of fun this year.

How many guys are planning to pick up the game and have any interest in an Online Association? I pre-ordered it for PS3, but if the majority are on 360 I might switch it tomorrow.

I'm definitely interested in Online Association on 360. The only hang-up for me is what all is going to be in Online Association? Is it going to be exactly like the offline Association? Or is it going to be a gutted, half-assed piece of crap that they tossed in at the last minute just so they could say "Hey! Look at that! Online Association! Pre-order today!"

With such a late release on mode info, I can see it either being fully fleshed out (great late announcement to spur interest) or a bare-bones feature; it probably won't be anything in-between.

Last year, I could not connect online at all to play 2K11 so that could be a major sticking point as well. Lots of people reported similar issues with the game, so hopefully that has been fixed.

Yeah, that bare-bones possibility is what I'm afraid of. I'm getting the game for sure, no matter what, but my interest in an Online Association group here is going to hinge on what level of depth is in Online Association.

I canceled my 2K12 PS3 pre-order until we hear more on Online Association. If the mode sounds deep and there's a couple people here who want to play in one, then I'll get it for 360. I wish they'd make the announcement and give some details.

Until then, pastapadre has done a good job of gathering game info from people who have early copies:

From these two videos (Association – Online) we can ascertain the following regarding NBA 2K12:

•Association mode looks to be largely unchanged at least as it relates to playing in the standard offline manner. We do know however that there will be Online Association for the first time ever which represents the big advancement this year. Users will be able to compete in the franchise against other users and/or CPU controlled teams. Outside of that the structure to how it will all work remains shrouded in mystery.

•The website nba2k.com will be launching (presumably next week coinciding with release) and will feature the ability to manage Online Associations – completing trades, managing rosters, and running drafts. The site will also house uploaded highlights, screenshots, and ‘My Player’ career mode progress/stats.

•There are no online leaderboards found within the game menus. Instead they will be located on the website.

•There are no online lobby rooms. Team-Up looks to be easier to organize however.

•There is still no ability to save playbooks for use online.

•’Crew’ mode online appears to have been removed. That would then suggest that the only way to play online w/ one’s My Player may be through the paid DLC that was discovered yesterday.
