They designed their system to allow the use of used games, so that's what they're saying. If publishers want to use a system that eliminates used games, why should Sony take bad publicity? With Sony's stance on it, if publishers do it, publishers get all the bad publicity.

I'll post this one more time:

If publishers want to block used games, they 100% absolutely can.
Things could have also changed since this morning. They saw many ways to strike a blow and went with it.

Like bdoughty said, I think you are safe. The PS4 listing says that if you select FREE Two-Day Shipping at checkout, you will get it the day it comes out.

Also, I saw some tweets earlier referencing supply numbers for the Xbox One on Amazon, so it appears they will not sell more than they can deliver. (Or they are trying not to, at least.)

I don't think anything changed. As said back in February, they won't require any DRM. As of today and now officially, they still wont require it. But again, that does not mean that publishers can't implement their own thing.

I think Sony did what any company would. They saw their opponent was aggressively implementing a very controversial feature, they knew they technically weren't implementing it themselves, so they used that to their advantage. However, just because Sony says you'll be able to play used games, doesn't mean that publishers will agree, especially when Sony came right out and said it will be up to the publishers to decide.

I gave you another perfect example of this earlier. Sony also said you will not need the internet whatsoever to play games. That's another case of "unless the publisher requires it." The Crew, for example, is already an online required game, that does not only need to be connected to the internet, but will absolutely not function unless you are connected.

I can't understand why anyone would argue with what you're saying, IOU. I guess some people are just so attached to their rentals that they are willing to see/hear things as they see fit.

I'm using Tapatalk 2 and the Cleveland Browns STILL suck.

They fear a negative strike against their beloved. More about defending the mothership Sony than anything.

It's more than just rentals. Buying from Gamefly is basically buying brand new when it comes to the PS3, at a much cheaper price, even has online passes unused.

It's about getting some money back when you buy a game.

If a publisher institutes DRM, they're going to hang themselves. People won't buy until the price goes down. So if they were losing to Gamestop before, they're going to lose to lower prices later.

Has nothing to do with that.

Just my 2 cents and was not exactly directed at you. You can ignore users but when people quote ignored users, you still see that.

    I've had a 360 and a PS3 since 2008. Eventually I'll own both the PS4 and the XB1.

I don't know how people would react to it. I know how the people on the internet would act, but they're just a vocal minority. PC gaming has the "you need a code to play the game" and it's doing just fine. Diablo 3 was a double edged sword with a serial AND having to be connected at all times and it sold like hotcakes. I'm pretty sure the new Sims game was the same way (and actually required you to download Origin to boot) and it still sold well.

I think publishers will test it. If it sells well, they're going to keep doing it. If it doesn't, then I think they'll stop it. However, I don't think it matters. In theory, online passes should have caused a huge protest (and it did, for awhile). But, after awhile, people got used to and just dealt with it, which is exactly what I think would happen if publishers started testing the waters.

Like I said, I don't know if they will, I just know that they can. If I was a betting man, though, I'd say a few of them at least try it (Ubisoft, EA, and Activision would be the likely candidates).

For the record, though, I hope I'm wrong.

I just know that it's all but guaranteed to happen on the Xbox One (plus EA striking deals with Microsoft because of that leads me to believe they're definitely considering doing it) and I don't see any reason whatsoever to block used games on one platform and then turn around and allow it on the other. IF used games end up getting block on Xbox One, they're getting blocked on PS4.

Just throwing it out there but maybe Sony's move forces MS/Publishers to reconsider their stance and this whole DRM thing stops (at least until the next gen when everything will be a download).

I suppose there is also the possibility that publishers could charge more for PS4 games than XB1 games to compensate them for their "loss" of no used games on PS4.

Sony was brilliant last night even if IOU turns out to be right (I do NOT think he is or will be given Sony's stance at the conference) Sony still gets 100% credit and 0% blame where all the blame will fall on MS and the publishers.

I'm sorry, but fuck them for acting like wanting to know the harddrive size and write speed is nerdy and referencing a REALLY shitty movie in the process.

Also, I bit the bullet and preordered the PS4. We'll see if it stays.

I missed almost all of the show last night, but, is December 31st just a placeholder for the release date of the PS4 or is it a definitive date for it's release?
