That being said as a black person there is plenty wrong with my own race that hurts our argument instead of helps, but you are correct in the context of white privilege.

What all of this really boils down to is the view that most blacks especially in the inner city are viewed as threatening even if they aren't showing any threating behavior. We are assumed to be doing something criminal (see any of clw posts where he assumes the cops are correct even before anything else is released ) and unless you are black you don't get that, but it circles back to black people hurting our arguments more than helping it.

And then people expect us to trust a system where we are guilty until proven otherwise and all the old are stacked against us....

Is there profiling against black people by police? Yes. Do black people probably get more basic scrutiny from cops than a random white person will or would? Yes. Is a 6'4", 300 pound black guy going to be viewed as more threatening than a 6'1" 180 pound white guy by a single lone cop? Probably. Will there be biases by cops against blacks? In areas where blacks commit the majority of crimes, of course they are going to be profiled and the police will be more biased against them. Same thing if a largely white area has the majority of crimes committed by whites, guess what? White people will be profiled. It all has to do with demographics of those who live there and those who commit the amount of crimes in that area.

It really all boils down to a couple of basic don'ts. Don't commit crimes. Don't act threateningly or menacingly towards police, don't attack or try to challenge police because you have a "fuck the popo" and black oppression chip on your shoulder. In general, don't act like a lawless douchebag and you won't have any problems with the police.

If it was a black police officer that shot a white criminal would you feel the same way you do now?

Most people don't have the courage to answer that honestly.

If you would feel differently than you do now, you are racist no matter what your race.

When I was about 20 I buried a guy who was my age and was shot by police. He was at a party and shit went bad. Someone pulled out a gun and the cops were called out. They made the one guy drop the gun and the other one picked it up so they shot his ass dead. Incidentally, he had AIDS.

At his funeral I remember the family playing, "Wind Beneath My Wings" and all of his friends saying that he was only trying to give the gun to the police (lol, yeah right).

I remember thinking, "Yeah, this fucking loser who had AIDS and was shot by the police is my hero. Give me a god damn break."

He was white and I feel the same way that I do now. If you fuck with the police, you get what you get. You're stupid to do that.

Not many people go to work everyday knowing they could be shot dead by some asshole. Cops get shot all the time. I don't blame them (when threatened) for deciding to kill instead of risking being killed.

No, other people have inferred how I vote. That I can immediately recall, I've never posted here about who I actually voted for in any election.

And yes, plenty of the things said about Ferguson, from both sides, have made the individuals speaking appear to be some combination of uncivilized, inhumane, and whatever the opposite of empathy is.

There is a laundry list of things that have been wrong or embarrassing (to obviously different degrees) with everything that has happened since the initial shooting. But the events of last night are not indicative of Saint Louis, or even the whole of Ferguson. So I took exception to the idea that Saint Louis is an embarrassment, or in any way the sole event making Americans look bad.

Because the guy rushed him.

Because an average guy can cover 45 feet MUCH faster than you think. Go Google/Youtube videos that prove how a knife attacker can cover that distance before most people can get a gun out.

Because he had already tried to take the officer's gun which is a HUGE red flag in law enforcement training.

Because he was a suspect in a robbery and assault.

Because law enforcement is trained and expected to pursue, not let criminals run off free.

Educate yourself on what law enforcement has to deal with before criticizing.

Hate to tell you kid, but people do stupid shit for no reason. You ever see videos of someone pulled over by a cop, who then gets into a fight on the roadside when the cop goes to arrest them? Guess what, some people are criminals and don't want to go back to jail (imagine that!), so when they are being pulled over or being questioned by a cop, especially after having just committed a crime, some of them think if they can get away from this cop and hide, then they won't get arrested and go back to jail. It's not a matter of being suicidal or retarded, it's called an open window that they perceive to avoid jail and they take the risk.

It's also called some people just truly hate police, so they'll take a shot at the police. For all we know, Brown hated police and decided to reach in through the cruiser door and take a couple of cheap shots at the officer and then go off running, he just didn't expect to get shot.

It's ALSO called adrenaline and anger can make people do STUPID things. A perfectly normal sane person wouldn't punch a wall for the hell of it. Guess what? When I was younger, I was pissed off over something, my adrenaline was sky high, and I punched a wall. Left a fist sized hole in the wall and damn near broke my hand (how I didn't, I still don't know). Last I looked, I'm not suicidal or retarded either. So guess what, people do STUPID things while angry and/or running on adrenaline.

There are MULTIPLE possibilities and reasons for why Brown did what he did. But because he was a sweet innocent angel, who was legally an adult don't forget (some people have certainly tried their hardest to go for the innocent little child portrayal like with Trayvon Martin), you are too closed-minded, too YOUNG or just plain ignorant to see those possibilities. All you can see is another black person being killed or oppressed by whitey.

And in another showing of ignorance, there is no "IF Brown "supposedly" punched the officer", no "IF he put his hand on his gun", no "IF he was high or had THC in his system or if he had marijuana on him". The evidence PROVES those facts. That funny little thing about evidence, evidence doesn't change just to placate one side or the other. Whatever the evidence is (which is now publicly known due to the grand jury proceedings and reports being released to the public), that evidence is EXACTLY THE SAME today as it was three months ago. But you're too young or too ignorant to understand what the evidence shows or says, or just so ignorant that you don't CARE what the evidence says because it supports "whitey killing another black kid".

Ah, yes, that favorite parrot line of Al Sharpton and the protesters and the pro-Brown camp. Poor little Michael Brown was murdered in cold blood for stealing a couple swishers. Guess what, your little fantasy has been pissed on by the facts. Brown WASN'T killed for stealing swishers. He WAS killed because he assaulted/battered a police officer (which is a felony!) in his cruiser and fought with that same officer for control of his gun. After the officer fired the gun inside the cruiser (amazing how that blood of Brown's got inside the police cruiser and on the officer's uniform if he DIDN'T and only "supposedly" attacked the officer), that was enough to scare him briefly and make him go running off. Then once the fear and flight response wore off and anger and adrenaline took back over, Brown turned around and charged back at the officer.

Brown didn't get killed for stealing swishers. He got killed for assaulting a police officer and trying to steal his gun. In my mind and my opinion, if Wilson HADN'T kept shooting until Brown was no longer advancing on him and the threat was ended, I honestly think Wilson would be dead right now. If Brown had been able to close the distance on the officer and start a new fight for control of the gun, I honestly believe that Brown would have ended up shooting (executing?) Wilson and then running off and hiding like a coward.

And if you honestly believe the officer should have just let Brown run away and not pursue him and try to arrest him after Brown had JUST committed felony assault/battery of a peace officer (after also having just committed theft in a separate incident), then you truly are ignorant. But hey, lets just keep defending criminals and coddle the poor little criminals.
