Per Extra Points with Matt Brown, EA SPORTS has rescinded their video game licensing proposal. Following months of rumors and speculation of EA and 2K battling to earn the approval of schools, it appears that enough schools signed with 2K leading to EA bowing out.

Brown's earlier reporting revealed that EA was planning a standalone title featuring all Division I men's and women's basketball programs that would launch at least three times in a six year span. 2K's proposal featured a more measured approach, adding programs into NBA 2K's MyTeam mode incrementally before evaluating the DLC's success and considering a standalone product.

Thursday evening, 2K confirmed they were re-entering the college basketball market with a CBB experience featuring 100+ programs. The company says they have big plans for 2027 and beyond, including a few surprises in early 2026. ...

Title update 1.008 is now available for EA SPORTS College Football 26.

The update adds 1,000 new players as part of a roster update and also adds in team backplates.

No additional patch notes were made available by EA at this time.

The update did correct some UI issues where default highlighted items in Ultimate Team were not showing correctly. ...

Via Rhys Elliott of Alinea Analytics on X, College Football 26 was downloaded 3.1 million times in July including 1.9 million copies in the first week following launch.

The strong launch week saw CFB 26 as the top game on PlayStation and Xbox, to no surprise, and the third most downloaded game across PS, Xbox, & Steam (where it is not available).

Elliott notes that on PS5, the game only sold 1/3 as fast as College Football 25, which could reflect the "more normal demand curve" mentioned at the most recent EA Earnings Call. Xbox outpaced PlayStation 1.7M to 1.3M, though that number was aided by EA Play’s 10-hour trial of the title, which is included with Game Pass Ultimate.

A major Title Update will be available for College Football 26 on Wednesday, August 6.

Among the noteworthy improvements additions: coverage updates, blocking improvements, playbook adjustments, Dynasty additions/improvements, Road to Glory fixes, Ultimate Team fixes, adjusted neck & helmet fit on players, new/updated uniforms, audio updates, new mascots, updated field art (IE: Kansas), and more.

During Tuesday's Q1 2026 EA Earnings Call, there were several mentions of EA SPORTS College Football following its launch in early July.

As part of his prepared remarks, EA CEO Andrew Wilson shared that the company is expecting a 'more normal demand curve' for CFB 26 as compared to the hype surrounding the 11-year wait for 25.

During Tuesday's Q1 2026 EA Earnings Call, there was one mention of the much speculated - and all but confirmed - EA SPORTS College Basketball title.

Raymond James Analyst Andrew Marok asked EA CEO Andrew Wilson about a potential CBB return and how EA views the basketball market as an opportunity given that the company has not launched a console professional basketball game since 2018.

Wilson responded that they cannot say much "yet," but hope to use the same approach from College Football in representing each university, bowls, playoffs, trophies, and player licensing as they "look to try and activate against that opportunity."
