Interesting to hear the RDR runs better on XBOX1 than 360.

TBH this doesn't do much for me. However, Gold has been solid the past year so I cannot complain.

Even if it is Chronicles, I can't complain about another AC game to play, I'm looking forward to Horizon, and surprisingly I have never played Mirror's Edge, so looking forward to trying that one out.

Anyone d/l the WWE 2K16 offering from Gold? I completely forgot about it. If you have played it, is it a solid offering?

Really weak lineup for October. That said Super Mega Baseball is a really solid game and I hope they are able to make a sequel because it is a few tweaks and options from being great.

Traded in my Xbox 1 and accessories for the new Xbox 1 S. It's very nice, smaller, much much quieter and doesn't seem to put off the heat. It also has an internal power supply so we no longer have that big block supply on the floor.

We don't have a 4K TV so I can't speak on how that may or may not look but BF1 looks amazing, the graphics are super crisp and it seems to load things pretty darn quick. So far we're happy w/ the purchase, with the trade in and credit we came out pretty good.

I plan on doing the same thing next year with the Scorpio. Gonna trade in my day one One for a Scorpio.

Still debating on if I want to trade in my PS4 for a Pro.

Sold my Xbox One to a friend and replaced it with an Xbox One S. Had most of my data on my external drive so upgrading was a snap. Love that the power brick is gone and the physical disc eject and power button added should have been there from the start. The system ran cooler than the previous model which was surprising. The grip on the back of the controller actually felt pretty good. I went in expecting not to like that. It is also a bit lighter.

There are only a few games that support HDR but Battlefield One is on the list and it came packed in, so that should look a little better when I go with a 4K Ultra TV down the line. Neighbor is going to bring his 4K TV so we can see the difference in image quality and colors.

Make sure you update the video settings in Settings/Display. My Xbox One S came factory set to 720p and all the other lowest settings. Once I cranked it up to 1080 and RCB, 24hz Battlefield One looks AMAZING!

Game was really popular after the Sim City debacle. $39.99 gets you the game and the After Dark Expansion.

I'm really tempted. It won't be 100% the same as on PC, and probably won't have the same access to mods and the morning community (I'm assuming), but since I don't have a computer or laptop currently to play it on, if I can play it on Xbox One, that'll work for me.

Microsoft to offer Self-Service Refunds for Xbox One & Win10

http://i.imgur.com/dYawp2j.jpg

Announcement posted in the Insider dashboard for what seems Alpha ring testers. Likely to launch soon.

You’ve spoken; we’ve listened. In support of offering gamers the freedom of choice, we’re making changes to the Microsoft Store purchase experience by offering customers a simple way to instantly return digital products like games and apps through account.microsoft.com.

When a game or app leaves you wanting more, we're here to help. Self-service refunds on Xbox One and Windows 10 provide a quick, simple way of returning a digital product.

To request a self-service refund:
1. Navigate to account.microsoft.com and sign-in.
2. From the top menu bar, select Payment & billing > Order history.
3. Navigate to a purchased game or app, and select Request a refund.

Please note the below conditions for requesting a self-service refund:
• Games and apps are eligible for self-service refunds within 14 days of purchase if you have less than 2 hours of play time across all accounts.
• DLC, season passes, and add-ons are not eligible for self-service refunds.
• The game or app must be downloaded and launched before requesting a self-service refund.
• You must wait for at least 1 day after the game or app's release before requesting a self-service refund.
• Certain Windows 10 apps may not be eligible for self-service refunds.
• Microsoft reserves the right to block access for users who abuse self-service refunds.

Sony and Nintendo need to follow suit on this.

Rudy

That is pretty cool. Under 2 hours of gameplay seems reasonable. That's pretty much instant dislike. Meanwhile Sony doesn't even let you cancel digital pre-orders I think.

If only there was some kind of information about those mysterious 5 buttons? Maybe the article you linked. :P

For starters, the kit sports a real-time clock and battery backup, as well as an OLED screen w/ navigation button on the front of the box and five programmable buttons. This seems like a small but meaningful quality-of-life improvement for devs: if you’re working with Scorpio dev kits, you should be able to set them up to display useful data like, says, frames per second, at a glance.

It is a dev kit and it will change. Xbox has had some sexy consoles this gen, with the S being the best.

The self service refund is a great thing. I saw someone else say it in comments on another site, that those details are basically a copy/paste of Steam's refund details, so it's a great move by MS.

It'll be interesting to see if this puts pressure on Sony to also offer this, especially since now both Steam and MS are. Granted some of us thought the popularity of EA Access would force Sony to agree to having it on PS4 and look where we still stand on that.

While 2 hours may seem a bit short, it still gives you time to at least be introduced to a game and find out if you're going to like it or not, especially when it comes to controls.

Cities Skylines is a blast but the console version comes with some limitations. You can pause the game but are not able to fast forward. The devs said consoles simply did not have the HP to handle it. Sucks but better to have the game with limitations than no game at all. Due to no fast forward a little patience is required as you will spend a lot of time early on just planning the future around the city until you reach the next milestone that lets you unlock new stuff. The game has very little in the way of hand holding and I highly require checking out a PC guide on the game in regards to electricity, water and sewage. The later is not really difficult but things like connecting the water pump to the water sewage before running it into the city is a savior as you only have to run one pipe. Electricity is a completely different ball of wax and you can waste a ton of money running power lines all over the city, when it only requires you to run it from the power source to another point to cover a large area. A lesson I learned from one of those guides. Also make sure and put the sewer pipe downstream of the water pump. I made that goof on my first of 15 or so cities before finally getting one started like I want it.

Good news for PS4 owners, it is looking like a PS4 version may be coming. (http://www.pushsquare.com/news/2017/04/cities_skylines_will_build_foundations_on_ps4_soon _it_seems)

That is a high price. That's higher than the current gen initial price tag. It's almost a new console but not at the same time. It better look really good. It is a better deal in Canada at $599C. That exchange is nice.

Much like I plan to do down the road here with trading in my PS4 for a Pro, I'll probably trade my One in for a One X if they have some good trade in deals. Set myself up for the next 3-5 years on consoles until it starts all over again with the PS5/Xbox 9000.

If still like to get a Pro if there is a good trade in offer. I'm still not sure about these mid gen upgrades. They make sense if they make them more customizable like PC but the Pro doesn't seem to be a big leap forward. Still, I've got a few games that I would love to see in 4K for myself.

The Pro just isn't a very good deal right now at its current price compared to the sales on the Slim. Heck, they have a $329C 1tb slim right now vs a $499 Pro. After tax that's $200. Just too wide a gap for a system that doesn't get great reviews.

Yeah, that's what I'm waiting on is another good trade in deal on the Pro. As it stands right now, it's not worth the price for the meager upgrade.

That's one thing I give MS, despite the price of the One X, at least they actually did some serious beefing up of it's hardware to where it feels like a true upgrade (even an, almost, new generation of console) compared to the One.

Damn, I didn't even realize they had a free preview weekend going on. Between probably two months worth of system updates and then downloading the game, I doubt I'd get it downloaded and ready to play before the free preview ends, but if they do another, absolutely let me know and I'll jump on with you!

Ah, alright, so maybe they'll still have a public beta or something in the near future. If I remember when I get home from work tonight, I'll at least get my One fired up and start installing updates. Maybe I can get it installed overnight and we can try and team up for a little bit before it ends tomorrow.

It's a fun game, I love being able to approach a enemy base in stealth, strategize and plan my method and route of attack, and take out the entire base of enemies with nothing but a sniper rifle from a couple hundred yards away. I spent so much time sneaking around all sides of a base, trying to find the perfect high ground, trying to find the right lines of sight to not only spot all enemies, but also get clear shots at them.

Between my slow and methodical stealth playstyle, and how massive the map is, it took me over 2 months to beat the damn thing. I got it day one early March when it came out the first year, it was late May, might have even been June, before I finally beat that damn game, lol.

I'm debating if I want to even attempt to try and play the story all again from the beginning with a new character. I had fun, but it's so big a map and was so long an effort to beat the game the first time, I'm not sure I'm ready to spend another 2+ months playing nothing but Wildlands.

Yeah the reviews basically say that the game is fun for the first 5-10 hours and the map is outstanding but all the missions are repetitive and there is no replay ability.

Personally the one thing I would have liked is the ability to pick up bodies and move them. I think that would help with the stealth nature of the game.

https://www.theverge.com/2018/6/20/17485852/microsoft-xbox-one-no-vr-headset-support-windows-mixed-reality-e3-2018

Microsoft has completely pulled back on plans to support virtual reality headsets on the Xbox. In an interview with Gamesindustry.biz, Microsoft’s chief marketing officer of gaming Mike Nichols said that “we don’t have any plans specific to Xbox consoles in virtual reality or mixed reality.” Nichols goes on to say that the PC is “probably the best platform” for virtual and mixed reality, and that for the Xbox, “our focus is primarily on experiences you would play on your TV.”

Smart move. I still think VR is a fad with a small but very passionate fanbase. 3D TV and Betmax also had small but very passionate fanbases too.

Thank god! The sooner this VR shit dies, the better.

Yup. VR is an expensive fad that lacks support.

Another frigging controller from MS. More controller options than exclusives. Sport white sounds likes something you would find on a stick deodorant label. :D

I played For Honor for a long time. Loved that game. Supposed to be a new mode this fall too. There can be a steep learning curve so try to find a character you like and learn them. So many great fighters online so Dominion can be fun or play Vs bots.

Eh, I'm good. I'm perfectly happy with my Elite controller I bought last year. Now if only Sony would do something similar for the PS4.

Xbox All Access pass is here and it's a pretty good deal considering you are paying monthly payments, yet the price is actually cheaper than paying for a system, Gold and Pass for 2 years. Especially for those who have a tough time trying to pay for a system all at once. Not having to pay large interest fees for paying on a monthly schedule.

I love backwards compatibility. The latest BC game as of today, probably my favorite COD of all time, Modern Warfare 2!

I'm still waiting for a future announcement that they're releasing a remastered Modern Warfare 2 like they did with Modern Warfare a year or two ago, but for now, being able to play MW2 via backwards compatibility makes me happy.

Its actually a smart business move as it does a number of things - #1 it gets sales from consumers with less discretionary spending in the door with a process many/most are familiar with thanks to cell phones #2 they can still make the same or more profit because you have to buy it from a Microsoft store which cuts out some of the "middle man" take.

I know the main stream games press will talk glowingly about this as being another "pro consumer" move by MS. However, #1 you MUST get a hard credit inquiry and thus ding their credit score. Additionally, it appears Dell/some bank are going to get to know quite a bit about you to join this program and undoubtedly sell/share that information with others. IMHO if you need credit to purchase a relatively inexpensive (in the grand scheme of things) hobby/entertainment you should probably think long/hard about whether you truly should "buy" it.

Yeah, screw those people not as well off as you, let them play with rocks. ;) I get the point but again, not everyone has the money upfront to buy everything at once. It's a valid option for many families or kids going to college with limited income, etc, etc, etc.

Microsoft has been spending the past few years working it's ass off to the pro consumer to it's Xbox customers. Sony on the other hand... I figure by the PS6 or 7 they will allow user name changes and let you play online with other consoles.

While they would get the initial ding to their credit score because of the hard inquiry, they actually would be helping their score in the long run since they'd be spending two years paying for the All Access. Two years of on time payments will help their credit history and show they can keep up with payments on time, while the temporary ding from the hard inquiry will lessen over time and disappear after two years.

So say you're a kid heading to college with jackshit for a credit history, this actually could help as you would be able to build up a little bit of a history through this.

You are correct that IF credit is used wisely it can help your score for future (and more important purchases like a car, house, etc...). My point is that a significant % of people that cannot afford the upfront cost of a console are also more/most likely to forget to pay on time or have financial difficulties that prohibit them from making the timely payment. Of course, if you don't pay it off in equal payments the interest rate is borderline ridiculous (I think is saw 30% which starts from the original purchase date not the end date). Also if you default on an Xbox console your credit history/score is toast for years if not decades to come. I've always been cautious with my credit so the reward of a gaming console seems small in comparison to the risk. In college I worked at fast food joints to pay my way through school, make car payments and saved what was left for fun/games/etc...

Again, its a smart business move by Xbox and many people can properly take advantage of the offer. But the media's likely story of this as nothing but a win proposition for the consumer is far from the truth as there will undoubtedly be people who screw up and damage their ability to borrow for more important things down the line.

If you are responsible then this can absolutely help. If you aren't responsible, then yes, this may screw you hard for the next decade plus if you can't make on time payments.

Looks like Fall 2020 is the next gen. XBox going to present new console at this year's E3 while Sony skips it (which I think is very stupid).
