Browsing it quickly, it seems more streamlined than the other app. It's solely Friends list (& what they are playing), groups, and contacting them. No link to store, Twitch streams, etc.

They were all sports games except fallout 4. Only repurchased Fallout 4 digital (it was $49 this week on PSN and I got $125 for my trade-in's). Will wait for the next years version of the sports games.

So Sony is giving subscribers one day of PS+ for their latest outage (1/4/16).

I got the email about it yesterday. It's a fucking code you have to enter in the PS Store. A code to add 1 day? You have got to be kidding me.

Last time, didn't they just automatically add a few days to everyone? Do they really think that so many people won't put in the choose that they are going to steal that day?

I got mine on January 14th. There's a link in the email to open your account on the web and enter the redemption code. It's ridiculous that Sony wouldn't just extend it but it's not too painful to do it yourself.

Last night I got a Notification on my PS4 from Sony about the added 1 day. When you click on it, it takes you to the PS Store and auto-populates with the code they emailed so you can get it added that way.

That's better than the email, at least.

I was trying to blame a game for it, but after some testing it's pretty clear the left stick on one of my controllers seems to get a mind of its own once in a while. Players will stop when moving straight, if not cut slightly to the right before moving again.

As you know, I was having similar issues last night on Battlefront. I wasn't sure if it was lag at first but then I had the same issues in the PS4 menus. Today, it's fine so I'm not sure what to think.

I already have 2 DS4s on the sideline. One has a sticky X button and the other has a wonky left analog (point to 12 o'clock, it moves you to 10).

I think it's time to buy a new one at Walmart, clean up a broken one, exchange the broken one and repeat until I have all good controllers.

I can always use one of my daughter's two controllers if I HAVE to but her's have Hello Kitty skins and I'll feel like some perv that would play the Hanna Montana game if I had to resort to that. :(

I too have that issue with the PS4 controller. It's so bad now that in GTA V when I stop moving the left stick my character keeps walking forward. I cannot use the strike zone in MLB because I cannot move the left stick with any sensitivity.

Yes... it's true. I've not made the switch but I know others have. It doesn't work with certain games but it does with NCAA.

Yes the DS4 does work with NCAA and a few others games (that I have anyway). 2K14, TW14, NCAA and BioShock Infinite to name a few. My PS3 controller has been broke for a while now so I only use my PS4 controller to play when on PS3

Probably about 6 months ago or more. Again, I blame the day 1 launch. I think they rushed out the controllers and clearly they were not ready. Fist the joystick covers and then the left stick issues. This summer I will buy new controllers and just toss the ones I have.

Sony really needs to change their stance on pre-ordering games. The whole, "no refunds in the US unless where laws apply" is a foolish way to do business. I understand that once the game is released that a no-refund rule is fine. It's before the game has released and you have not been provided goods is where my issue lies. Pre-ordered Far Cry Primal, watched videos of the gameplay and did not want to play Far Cry Primal anymore. Took like 3 different tries and a couple weeks to get a refund to my PSN Wallet, which is where the funds came from in the first place. I honestly can't think of another company that does this with pre-orders. What part of PRE is confusing? For once I am jealous of Europe where they do not have to put up with this and can cancel a pre-order on the consoles, thanks to stricter anti-consumer laws.

Sony really needs to get more consumer friendly in many areas. Wi-fi speeds, the ability to change a PSN ID, external storage, Dashboard UI issues a mile long, the ability to appear offline and on and on and on...

Must have been the last system update, but with my 4TB HDD and the Nyko extension, my system stays in rest mode. I'm definitely excited for that. I can buy a game in the afternoon at work and it's ready to play when I get home.

I have a decent upload/download through Shaw. PSN times are usually pretty good (outside of Madden and 2k). I'm not sure how long No Man's Sky took as it pre-downloaded. However, it's a small file so it should be under 20 minutes.

Same here. If it was still the same as in the past, just a way to get a couple dree fames and some sales, I'd dump it in a heartbeat. But since Sony went the route of big bad MS and made it mandatory for online play and other services, I have no choice but to keep it active.

Gold at least is worth it nearly every month based on the games they give away, plus I've gotten some great deals during sales for the extra percent those with Gold get off prices, including on top of the already sales price.

Lack of 4K player is a big one. Especially when the competition has it.
Underpowered compared to what Scorpio is planning. Specs were unchanged from when it was leaked earlier this year.
Also it looks pretty damn fugly. The Xbox one S is a nice looking console. The PS4 Pro looks like someone was eating a two stack of pancakes (PS4 Slim) and regretted buying a three stack.

Same here. Just bought a 2TB external HD for my Xbox One, so I am set. I can live with it being a little underpowered knowing what is coming in the future. Only an exclusive Tennis game or The Last of US 2 would get me to consider getting a Pro before the Scorpio.

With less power and maybe some lost consumers over 360 RROD issues Sony clearly won the early rounds.

But since then MS has the cheaper console and bent over backwards for consumers with BC and EA Access. Now Sony is being a prick. They don't allow EA Access, are blocking mods for Fallout 4 and Skyrim and don't seem to be catering to the people as much. Not adding a UHD drive to the ps4 when MS has one in the S is dumb if it truly was only a $15 savings.

I felt the same way as you Rudy. After RROD my faith in Xbox was gone. However, they have gone above and beyond with the xbox1. I could not be happier with the console.

I wonder if there will be another Ps4 with a 4k drive. I'd love to see a true 4k movie. I would have traded up for one of those. But without it I will pass on the pro. I won't be buying a dedicated 4k player either. I'd just buy an xbox one S if I did that. I know the future of movies is streaming but there is very little 4k streaming content. Google Play Movies has none right now. The Sony Ultra service is only available in the US and not Canada. I don't think the Playstation store has any 4k movies either right now and Sony televisions do have that app to stream 4k too.

I don't think my satellite service is offering 4k service any time soon. Bell Fibe is fiberoptics over here and is offering some but it's only in certain markets right now.

I'm one of those people that still buys Blu-Rays, because I want the best quality and uncompressed sound. So the only way I'll watch 4K movies is on disc. I'll just wait it out. Not buying an XBOX One S, because it can't output DTS:X or Dolby Atmos which the PS4 can.

Some games like NBA 2k, Titanfall and Mordor apparently look great on the Pro while others like COD do little. Digital Foundry is reporting that some games actually look worse on the Pro due to frame rate issues.

How embarrassing! I kept hitting the eject button trying to get the disc tray to open but it never would. It would only beep. I actually had to Google "How to open PS4 Pro disc tray" only to find out that there's a really well hidden slot for inserting discs into. I know I'm getting old but sheesh.

You can swap your old PS4 for a new Slim model with a disc copy of Uncharted 4 plus another game of your choice (7 including NBA 2k, watch dogs 2, etc) at a cost of only $99. The thought of trading in an old model for a quiet new one at such a low price is very tempting. I could sell those games and have it only cost me about $30. Thanks mors. I haven't kept up on hard drives lately, so wasn't sure if there were any that were quality and recommended.

Maybe I'm missing the real question and I haven't done it in a couple years but I also have 2 PS4s. For awhile one was in the living room and one was in my bedroom. Now, one is in my living room and the other is in my daughter's room.

When the 2nd console was in my bedroom, I frequently uploaded my game saves to the PS+ cloud storage and continued seasons of FIFA and The Show on the other console.

It was simple and the only pain involved was remembering to do it. My apologies if I missed the real question.

I don't think they have said if users can move files manually to the external drive.

I would guess that files/games on the external *might* work when moved to another PS4, provided you are using the same PSN account. Though, perhaps in addition to being tied to your PSN they may also be tied to that specific internal console HDD.

Nothing with tech/gaming is as easy as it could or should be.

Well I looked at the issue further over at Neogaf and they seem to think that you can in fact just move the external HDD around to multiple PS4s with the caveat that you need to use PS+ cloud saves for the actual game files as the game files will NOT save to the external HDD only internal and you need to use your PSN profile on the "extra" PS4(s).

I'm downloading the beta now but I doubt it will let me use the same code on multiple PS4s and I have bought a 4 TB external HDD.

Pretty much this. Easily the biggest complaint you see about the last two Sony systems. Wired will always be better than Wifi and the more download speed the better but you are still limited by Sony.

Yeah, my PS4 is so much damn slower than my Xbox One at downloading games and updates. Absurdly slower. Not sure why the PS4 can't utilize the full speed I'm getting from my ISP, but hopefully it's something that can be improved over time from system updates, if Sony is willing to put in the time. If it's what it is and can't be improved, well that sucks. I guess I'll just have to get used to really long ass download times.

The speeds vary WILDLY. Guesstimating long term averages are roughly 25-30 down on the wired and 5-15 on the wifi.

This morning I reset all the settings to "simple" for both the wired and wireless PS4 and oddly I got an average of 25 down and 3 up for both the wired and wifi PS4s after 5 tests for each PS4. That is the best I've ever seen out of the wifi PS4 so I doubt it stays that strong.

Both ALWAYS show the NAT as Type 2 for both the wired and wifi.

I do not download in rest mode I wasn't aware that helped the speeds.

I can confirm that 4.50 allows you to move an external HDD to more than one PS4 and play games on both consoles (at least if you login under your ID).

Note, the 1st time I tried I lost the folders downstairs but it seems to be fine now. Also note that on initial boot up it takes a few minutes for the PS4 to recognize all the digital games on the external HDD. There is a flashing "can" light noting that the PS4 is apparently reading something off of the external HDD before it will let you open/play the game.

Well, not that I really needed them, especially with Sniper Elite 4 releasing this Tuesday and Ghost Recon Wildlands out in a month, but due to there currently being an Ubisoft publisher sale on the PS Store, I snagged Far Cry Primal for $19.99 and Steep (the snowboarding/skiing/paragliding/wingsuiting on the side of a mountain game that just released two months ago back on December 2nd) for $29.99.

I haven't touched Primal yet, but I did play the intro to Steep (since the game is still only half downloaded) and it's fun! I liked what I saw of the game back during E3, and actually playing it tonight, I had a lot of fun blazing down the side of a mountain on a snowboard and flying essentially nap of the earth in a wingsuit.

I've thought about buying a PS4 Pro and having a second PS4 in the house rather than trade/sell my original PS4. But I wasn't sure how good that would be without having to buy a second PS+ account to play online and needing to buy a second game if my kids wanted to be able to play games together like Overwatch, Destiny, For Honor etc. Well it turns out there is a perfectly legit way to use both PS4s if you buy only ONE digital copy and one PS+ account.

Basically, the biggest gamer should buy the games digitally and have the PS+ account. That user can play their games on any PS4 regardless if it's their primary console or not (you can only have one primary). But on their primary PS4 anyone can play their games and be online. So for my family, my kids would be able to play any game on my Primary PS4. If I got a second PS4 I could play on that secondary system and any digital games while my kids could also play the same game on the primary system. My kids could not play any online game on the secondary PS4 but it would work great. It would actually be better if I bought my next PS+ account through my son along with digital copies since he's the primary online gamer. Read the full article along with one quote below.

That's what I've done for years. My "Primary" PS4 is in my daughter's room. My other PS4 is in the living room which is the one that I play on. She is a sub-account of my account.

Until about 2 years ago, I had to buy PS+ for her but they changed that and now only I need it and we both get the benefits.

The only drawback to this setup is that every account has to have their own DLC as it is tied to your profile. Therefore, on games we both play I have buy DLC twice and on handed that only she plays I have to be sure to buy it using her PSID (loading funds to her ID and then purchasing as her).

Agreed. 500 gb is too small but 1 TB should be workable. Getting the Pro would be nice but you can also pick up a cheap external now too Jaymo. I don't understand people buying 5-8 TB ones but 1-2 TB of extra space would be good.

I got a 5 TB external drive, mainly because it was only $122 compared to $110 or something for 4 TB and $80 or $90 for 2 or 3 TB.

It guarantees me loads of free space for many more years, so I can keep most, if not all of my games installed and never have to worry about playing musical downloads again.

But that's also because I like to keep as many of my games installed as possible because I never know when a game may start giving me an itch and catch my interest again. I haven't played, nor had installed, Infamous: Second Son in years, for example, but recently I've sort of been itching to play it again.

That and it takes me a long time to download games, especially since it seemed like most of them were in the 30-60 GB range. So to download all of them, it took at least 65 hours of nonstop downloading in rest mode to install roughly 27 games. At one point, halfway through, I still had something like 450 GB to go, at the halfway point! Now, other than downloading updates, DLC, or newly bought games, I don't have to download all that crap ever again as long as I own my PS4.

I haven't touched it since probably Fall 2014, haven't had it installed since then, but recently had been feeling the itch. Unfortunately, to install it, would have meant having to uninstalling a current game in my playing rotation.

Before I got my external drive, I think the most games I had installed at one time was something like 9, which is fine if I want to play solely those 9 games, but week to week, what I feel like playing changes. This week I may want to play NBA 2K, next week I may want to play Battlefield, the week after that I may want to play Titanfall 2.

Keeping my entire library permanently installed and ready to play at a moment's notice is nice for me because there are days I jump online without a game in mind and will literally decide what I want to play that day right then and there. And now I can go back and actually play some older games that I had been forced to delete in the past to make room for newer games.

I got a 5 TB external drive, mainly because it was only $122 compared to $110 or something for 4 TB and $80 or $90 for 2 or 3 TB.

It guarantees me loads of free space for many more years, so I can keep most, if not all of my games installed and never have to worry about playing musical downloads again.

But that's also because I like to keep as many of my games installed as possible because I never know when a game may start giving me an itch and catch my interest again. I haven't played, nor had installed, Infamous: Second Son in years, for example, but recently I've sort of been itching to play it again.

That and it takes me a long time to download games, especially since it seemed like most of them were in the 30-60 GB range. So to download all of them, it took at least 65 hours of nonstop downloading in rest mode to install roughly 27 games. At one point, halfway through, I still had something like 450 GB to go, at the halfway point! Now, other than downloading updates, DLC, or newly bought games, I don't have to download all that crap ever again as long as I own my PS4.

On my launch PS4 I upgraded to 1TB. My Pro has 1 TB. I bought a 4 TB external HDD for both. I'm contemplating buying a 2nd external HDD just so I don't have to move my external HDD from downstairs to upstairs and have to wait a few minutes each time for the PS4 to read all my games from my external hdd.

However I may just hold off as I am also hoping to furnish/finish my media/theater room which will end my desire to play games downstairs on the OLED.

I'm seriously thinking about picking up a 2nd PS4 (like today) with me and two kids all playing. I'd like to get a Pro but the price gap between that and a Slim is so wide right now. PS4 Slim bundles go on sale for C$299 (right now at BB) vs a Pro for C$499. Add 13% tax and that gap is around $225 plus UC4 value. I do have a 4K TV but that's our TV viewing upstairs and wouldn't really be gaming on that. Torn on waiting for a price drop in the future or just pulling the trigger today.

HELP! I just bought a PS4 Slim and the WIFI is not working. When I set up the connection it will connect to either my 2.4 GHZ or 5 GHZ bands. It's less than 10' from the router, closer than my other PS4. But I'm getting 81 kbs a second. I have to use my LAN line to download anything. It's brutal. I had no issues with my OG PS4. Not sure if I need to do a custom install with this one or something. It wouldn't even register the speed until after I had installed the LAN it was so slow. Ugh.

I made the same decision. I do have a 4K tv but it's upstairs and the wife wouldn't be happy if I put a PS4 up there lol. But it was more than $100 for me. They always have great sales and bundles on the Slim. I got it for $299C vs $499C for the Pro. When you add in 13% sales tax and that I got a game which I flipped for $25 it was well over $200 difference.

No Man's Sky has been a nice little buy so far. It scratches all my gaming OCD itches of exploring, finding and crafting. I have made my first warp and look forward to the freedom now that the tutorial phase seems to be slowing down. I just have a need for more slots. Need slots everywhere. Gotta have a place to store stuff. I am going without a guide, so it is a guessing game was to what to sell right now. Selling "currently" non essential minerals and trying not to drop the stuff you can't sell but it happens. The Sentinels seem awfully sensitive. I know from some of the previews they come in different varieties but they have attacked when I was gathering resources too close to them.

It is fairly easy on the eyes, especially the ones with lots of flora and tallish grass but there are some fugly ass planets out there. They were right when they said the planets were large. When playing the Witcher 3 or Zelda I said screw the horse. Not this time. When stuff is more than 5 minutes away, I get back in the ship and fly there. There is just not enough to do between point A and B. I remember seeing one guy who walked half of one of the planets and it took 12 hours to do that (https://www.polygon.com/2016/9/4/12791314/how-big-is-a-no-mans-sky-planet-really-watch-someone-walk-halfway). Numerous occasions with 2 hour + ETA's to the next closest base. This is also where I think they screwed up a bit. Would have rather had a hundred or so similar sized planets with more diverse multi-biomed planets that had far more areas of interest and lore on each.

Now we look for a nice little planet to start my fist base. Which is easily 25+ hours of gameplay away since there is so much else to do in the upgrade department in all the other areas.

Oh yeah, Fahrenheit, how hard would it have been as an option in the game? Damn Brits, still holding a grudge.

Enjoying No Man's Sky so much I have not even touched Horizon, outside of taking it out of the case and installing it and I really want to play Horizon. Even restarted with a new save because I never got around to naming anything.

So Star Systems are all named Sooner1, Sooner2 and so on.
Planets are Boomer1, Boomer1a, etc.
Bases on the planets are named after famous people that went to OU classified by OU, the number of the base as they are found. For example: OU1 Sam Bradford. Will run out of names so it will default back to OU1, OU2, etc.
Plants are all named after what they look like. Silly names. Ran out of Oklahoma based stuff and there is a ton of vegetation.
Creatures are named Texas Sucks(Insert Number).

So if you find the OU3 Mookie Blaylock Base, on Boomer45C, while visiting the Sooner45 Star System, feel free and feed Texas Sucks654 some Iron. They seem to like that.

Also, for those wondering about the popularity of Minecraft, aside from the Xbox One X reveal, the clip above was the most watched YT video from the MS E3 press conference with over a million views so far.

They have turned down cross-platform play. A big reason IMO would be the fact that Microsoft owns Mojang (Minecraft developer), acquiring them back in 2014. Sony & Microsoft both benefit from making the game for PS4's large user base, but Sony likely thinks allowing cross-platform would eliminate any leverage or position of power they currently have in this relationship. Not saying I like it, but I think that is why they declined. It also would put Sony in a spot where they might feel they have to allow cross-platform for all games, if available/developed. I can see where that is a bigger issue.

Yet they still have a few cross-play games with PC. Which is why most of what the Sony rep is absolute crap. Protecting it's userbase but allowing cross-play with PC/Steam gamers. Sony is just being the biggest dick on the playground and for a company that is already pretty damn user unfriendly, this just takes it to another level.

Dude, you almost owe it to yourself to play UC 1-4 back to back. UC4 is a love letter to the series and its emotional weight hits harder if 1-3 is fresh in your head. Play them on the easiest mode. You’re there for the story. The UC4 epilogue will hit you right in the feels. Then hit up Lost Legacy right after that. By the time you’re done, you’re gonna think, “That was a fantastic use of my time.”

Yeah, I still gotta find time just to even play the Nathan Drake collection, before worrying about UC4 and Lost Legacy.

Game publishers are starting to finally wise up, and instead of plugging everything into October and November with dead space the rest of the year, February through May is starting to become just as big a game release window as September to December is. I'm struggling just to put time into MLB The Show 18, Far Cry 5, Vampyr, Jurassic World Evolution, Detroit Become Human and State of Decay 2, which all released between the last Tuesday of March and last week.

Plus I just picked up Batman: Arkham Knight and Batman: Return to Arkham (Arkham Asylum and Arkham City) for cheap on sale two or three weeks ago and have yet to even touch them. I have yet to even play Dying Light: The Following - Enhanced that I bought on sale months ago. Same with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete which I've owned since sometime last year. Trying to also find time for Skyrim and Fallout 4, which half the time ends up being maybe once or twice a month. I don't think I've gotten back on Skyrim since April, even though I was halfway through the story. Shit, I still have yet to finish Assassin's Creed Origins and Middle-Earth: Shadow of War and those both came out clear back in October. I also have yet to finish The Last of Us Remastered which I've owned for about two years now and I'm still extremely early on in Metal Gear Solid V, which I've owned for well over a year.

I have a backlog of started but unfinished games up the ass, and more new games keep releasing before I can find the time to finish old games.

You want to backup your profile and settings in addition to any game saves you don't want lost (or that aren't backed up in the cloud - those can be redownloaded). I did this a few years ago pretty painlessly except I didn't have an external so I had to re-install all my games. Was fairly painless. I think there is an auto backup option somewhere that does it all for you.

Well, it looks like I'm not getting a Pro for a while regardless.

Every Gamestop within 50 miles of me is sold out of Pros, according to their app.

Even Amazon has nothing but third party sold Pros, and I'm sure as hell not paying $500 for a Pro.

And after looking over on OS, apparently Amazon and Best Buy haven't had Pros in stock for months. Apparently Gamestop is only getting regular PS4 slims, something about Sony dialing back production of Pros or something is the current rumor.

If that means a Pro slim or something is about to be announced, I'll go for it. Otherwise something like a RDR Pro Bundle might be my only way of getting one. Either that or hope my PS4 survives to when the PS5 launches, but that will probably not be until Fall 2020 at least.

A larger USB stick or external hard drive. Since you aren't backing up game saves it doesn't need a lot.

Sony does seem to be cutting back on the Pro. Not sure if sales are bad or if another SKU is coming. I thought they would have had a PS4 Pro Slim that doesn't get too loud/hot and is cheaper.

My PS4 has been behaving itself the past day or two, so I may wait a bit before I consider upgrading. That and I might be switching jobs sometime over the next month, so if that happens, I'll wait until after I've started the new job and have gotten my direct deposit stuff sorted out for paychecks.

If there are still no Pros showing up around this area (Gamestops and Walmarts within 100 miles are all empty) at that time, or there's no new Pro bundle of a game I'm interested in, I'll definitely take you up on the offer!

Alright, I'll own a Pro come Tuesday. I bought a Pro from the Best Buy website this afternoon, it should be here Tuesday. Would have been here Monday if not for the holiday.

Figure I'll spend Tuesday afternoon/evening setting up the Pro, getting my account logged in, going to do a straight up PS4 to PS4 data transfer to copy over all of my saves and stuff stored on my internal drive, plus move my external drive with all of my games from the old PS4 to the Pro and make sure that's all working.

Then I'll wipe the old PS4 and take it up to Gamestop to trade it in on Wednesday. Depending on if the offers are still valid come Wednesday, according to the Gamestop app, I should be able to get $155 in cash for trading in my old PS4. Probably could get more on Craigslist or eBay or something, but I really don't want to deal with the potential crap that comes from those two options, so I'll just go the quick and easy route.

I have a PS4 Pro and an Xbox One S. I have a copy of Mass Effect Andromeda on both systems. I can say, without question, that Andromeda looks infinitely better on the Pro. It’s ridiculous just how much detail and lighting the Pro provides. It’s stark.

But the Pro sounds like a jet plane. A loud one. [emoji38]

I’ve heard the loud problem.

Just went to Kalihari water park and got a lot of free arcade tokens. Kids loved the VR. So now they used their savings to buy a VR bundle. Just finished setting it up tonight. I want to check out the SW Rogue One demo. We got the Doom bundle and Fireheart. I’ve always believed the price out weighed the value but the kids begged and paid for it.

There is likely to be a good trade in offer for a Pro next week with Spiderman. I may jump. The Pro is supposed to be better with VR.

New update software. You can finally search the store by actually typing in words instead of the old dumb letter by letter system. But I can’t activate or deactivate accounts easily. Have to deactivate first and then activate when moving accounts between ps4s. Used to be able to just select Activate without having to deactivate first.

Woof! 3 hours to transfer data from my old PS4 to my new Pro. Thank god I went down and picked up my package at UPS at 11:30 instead of waiting for them to deliver it by truck, which would have likely been 4 or 5pm.

Looks I'm catching up on shows on the DVR this afternoon while waiting on this transfer.

Sent from my iPad using TapatalkSurprisingly, it took only maybe a hour tops to transfer the data over to the Pro, maybe less. I was shocked when my TV suddenly auto-switched over to HDMI 3 when my Pro restarted at the end of the transfer process.

Got it all hooked up and in the place where I had my old PS4. Also used the trade in money from Gamestop to pre-order Spider-Man. I'm debating on if I want to play a game on the Pro sometime between today and Thursday, or if I want to wait and have Spider-Man be my first game on the Pro on Friday.

PSN users will finally be able to change their username, but there are some catches:

We’re happy to announce that we will soon begin testing the long-awaited feature that will allow users to change their PlayStation Network Online ID from their PlayStation 4 system. The PSN Online ID Change feature beta will be a part of the PlayStation Preview Program, and will become available to select users that have pre-registered as testers for previous PS4 system software betas.

During the preview program, you will be able to change your online ID as many times as you want. The first change is free, and changes after that will cost $9.99 USD / CAD. For PlayStation Plus members, it will cost $4.99 USD/ CAD after the first change. Changes to online ID can be made through the Settings menu or via the Profile page of your PS4.

When you change your online ID, you will have the option to display your previous ID with your new ID, so your friends can recognize you. Once you decide to display your old ID or not, you won’t be able to adjust this after completing the online ID change process.

This feature is compatible with PS4 games originally published after April 1, 2018, and a large majority of the most-played PS4 games that were released before this date. However, please note not all games and applications for PS4, PS3 and PS Vita systems are guaranteed to support the online ID change, and users may occasionally encounter issues or errors in certain games. If for any reason you experience issues after changing your ID, you can revert back to your original ID for free at any time (you will only be able to revert once during the preview program). Reverting back to an old ID will resolve most issues caused by the ID change. In addition, when this feature officially launches, a list of compatible games published before April 1, 2018, will be provided on PlayStation.com for reference before you make a change.

The preview program for this feature is scheduled to conclude at the end of November 2018. The full rollout of the feature to all PS4 owners is planned for early 2019, so stay tuned for updates down the road!

Report: PS4 Messaging Bug is Bricking Consoles

Some PS4 owners are experiencing a frightening glitch that’s forcing them to factory reset their consoles.

The first report of this specific bug was from a Reddit user who, after playing an online match of Rainbow Six: Siege, received a cryptic message from a member of the opposing team. After opening it, the player’s PS4 locked up along with most of his teammates’. With the exception of one player on the team, who had his messages set to private, everyone on the team was forced to factory reset their PS4s to regain functionality.

Even scarier, others are experiencing the glitch simply by receiving the notification for the message. According to Reddit user Forkrul, the message generally needs to be displayed in some way in order to be effective, however, “the notification can be enough depending on how much of the message it parses.”

While none of this is concrete and Sony has yet to even acknowledge the problem, it is advised for PS4 owners, especially those who play competitive online games, to set their messages to private. Concerned users can go to Settings > Account Management > Privacy Settings to change Message settings to private.

I’ve just played a little HZD and NBA 2K on the Pro. Gotta say I’m disappointed. I thought it would be better looking than what I’m seeing. I have a cheaper 65” LG 4K downstairs. I was hoping for something more noticeable. To be fair to HZD I was playing at night in the snow and that never looks as good. Maybe I haven’t set the settings up right.

I think turning HDR off makes things better. I think it’s better on RDR with it off and I think it’s way better in NBA 2k19 with it off. Everything is brighter and more colourful. I don’t care if it isn’t realistic but my eye likes it better off. I wish each game had specific settings to toggle on and off though. 2k doesn’t.

Whatever makes you happy, my guy. That’s all that matters. I didn’t realize how great Mass Effect Andromeda looked on the Pro until I bought a copy to play on my Xbox One S. The difference was so stark that it led me to buy an M Cable for my Xbox. It made a big difference but it still looks far superior on my PS4 Jet Engine Edition.

Both my HDMI cables (one to VR box and then to TV) say fast speed HDMI. It could be that my TV isn’t an expensive one and may not HDR as well. But I’ve never liked videophile TV settings. While those guys talk about “true” colours I just want something pleasing to my eyes.

I’ve turned off HDR on the Pro settings and NBA 2K looks so much better. HZD is way better. Just great looking colours in the canyons. My son said COD looks a lot nicer. With HDR the colours were just dull and washed out. It works for me! Much happier now!

There’s no set HDR standard so some people’s HDR is better than others and your mileage may vary.

Kids are liking Creed VR.

I did rebuy GOW and the 4K option is nice. The game is definitely crisper on my 65” TV and I will probably try a NG+ game over the holidays. The frame rate is noticeably smoother on Performance mode but I think I will go Resolution. It’s sharp.
