A class-action lawsuit filed four years ago alleging EA SPORTS of violating antitrust and consumer protection laws has reached a potential $27 million settlement fund while also restricting exclusive deals for the company with the NCAA/CLC or the AFL.

The proposed settlement, filed with the court on July 19, 2012, would establish a $27 million fund for consumers who purchased Madden NFL, NCAA Football or AFL games published by EA. If the settlement is approved by the court, consumers who purchased a sixth generation title (GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox) may receive up to $6.79 per game. Those who purchased a seventh generation title (Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3) may be entitled to as much as $1.95 per game under the terms of the proposed settlement.

As consideration for the settlement, Electronic Arts has agreed to refrain from renewing or otherwise entering into an exclusive trademark license with the AFL for five years from the final date of approval of the proposed settlement. Moreover, Electronic Arts agrees not to renew its current collegiate football trademark license with the CLC on an exclusive basis after that license expires in 2014, or seek any new exclusive trademark license regarding football video games with the NCAA, the CLC, or any NCAA member institution covered by the current exclusive license for a period of five years thereafter.

This appears to mean that EA will be unable to have an exclusive license for NCAA Football for five years beginning in 2014. Given that the last college football competitor came from Sega's College Football 2K3 and the costs that would incur (start-up, development on the 'next' next-gen, licensing, etc.), it does not seem likely a competitor will emerge. TGT will add more information as it becomes available. Continue on for more information and additional coverage. ...

Hey guys, gschwendt back again to give you my impressions of NCAA Football 13, this time the retail release version of the game. For new visitors to the site, you can read my previously posted quick background about me as well as my impressions of gameplay from the April community event. Be sure to check out our Q&A and Media article that filled requests by users and for those that download the game early through Season Ticket, be sure to participate in our Impressions thread so that you can share your thoughts on the game.

For this year’s release, EA SPORTS and the NCAA Football development team needed to focus on making sure that every aspect of the game was solid and provided a great core of both gameplay and other features. Unfortunately for fans of the yearly title, in my opinion, EA has fallen short in delivering the game that many felt was needed to win back those disgruntled after last year’s release. While the additions to the game are nice and do provide entertainment, they only manage to highlight the shortcomings in other areas. To me, this is the year of the ‘but’, as in “that change is really nice, but it breaks that other aspect this year” or “we got this new addition, but then we miss-out on that addition”.

NCAA Football 12 was released on July 12, 2011. The initial blogs and information surrounding the game centered on the franchise's focus on team specific traditions and details; namely authentic team entrances including some animal and vehicle related aspects. NCAA Football saw the addition of several long-standing community requests, including Coaching Carousel and Custom Playbooks; however, with EA's ambitious feature set also came numerous bugs and complaints. ...

While it's been discussed previously, NCAA Football 13 will be receiving an update Dynasty Wire for use with Online Dynasty. The site has recently been found online (http://www.easports.com/dynasty13/default), however currently you'll not be able to access any of the features unless you have a copy of the game and are a member of an Online Dynasty. Seen below after the break, you can at least see some mock-ups of some of the new features including Scouting, Preseason/Offseason Duties, Heisman Trophy Race, Pipeline States, and Coaching Carousel. Additional to this, as we've previously reported, most of the major bugs that were present in the NCAA Football 12 Dynasty Wire should be corrected.

For those unfamiliar with Dynasty Wire, the website allows you to do much of what you can do on the console short of actually playing the game, and even that has a substitute. Things like recruiting, looking at stats, and game results allow you to stay in touch with what's going on with your dynasty without firing up the console. As well, Super Sim Online, the substitute for playing the game, allows you to do essentially everything you can in the game short of controlling the players; you're able to call plays and make substitutions and then see the results happen on your screen.

    UPDATE
One change this year is that regarding the Advance from the Web feature. Added last year, this feature allows users to advance their Online Dynasty to the next week without having to boot up their console. While this feature was free last year, this year it is included with Season Ticket or available separately as a purchasable add-on. As described on the Season Ticket page, those that purchase Season Ticket will have access to not only play the game 3 days early, but also have access to premium web content from your computer; that web content this year includes both the Advance from the Web as well as Super Sim Online. We have confirmed though that those that don't subscribe to Season Ticket will be able to purchase this ability separately, however the price is unknown at this time.

Continue after the break for mock-ups and let us know what you think. Also be sure to check back on 7/6 at 6pm ET for a review of the new site.

The NCAA Football 13 TeamBuilder website is now live. In addition to making their own custom squad, the annual update will allow gamers to view game rosters, new stadiums, updated field art, and new uniforms coming to NCAA Football 13.

As expected, it has been confirmed that previous TeamBuilder squads can be imported into the new site for use in NCAA Football 13. However, it appears that no major upgrades have been planned for the mode. From EA SPORTS Community Manager Justin Dewiel via Twitter: "TeamBuilder will have new high school stadiums and uniforms, but there's not an overhaul of the feature this year."

After viewing the new site, please share any new TeamBuilder features or new school specific aspects (uniforms & field art) you notice on the site. ...
