    Coach O'Connor's Quotes

--On how serious the injury to star MLB Stephon Hooper is
"Stephon suffered a pretty serious back injury during the middle of the third quarter. At the moment, he'll be lucky to see the field the rest of this season. We're hoping for a quicker recovery, but, at the same time, we're counting our blessings that the injury isn't more serious as where he got hit has caused some serious life threatening injuries before."

--On the performance by the offense
"Boy did we really respond after our pitiful performance against BC or what? Chris [Sanders] had an incredible game and, in turn, we played very well against a good Buffalo team. If we can continue to produce on the offensive side of the ball like this, we have such promise."

    --On the starting RB position
"I've just been told by our trainers that Paris has been cleared to return to the lineup next week against Maryland. At the moment, he is the starter and will retain that upon coming back into the lineup. Marcus [Fellows - Freshman (RS) HB] really responded well filling in for Paris [Stone] but, unless there are lingering issues for Paris, he will be our starter against Maryland."

    Coach O'Connor's Quotes

--On his feelings about how the defense played
"Our showing was very impressive considering the talent that Maryland has on their team as a whole. I felt our scheme was enough to give our offense the edge in a shootout, but the defense's performance was definitely a welcomed sight. Now we just gotta cut down on the big plays. While, yes, the 4th quarter was the 2nd stringers against their number 1's still, it was very disappointing to see the lack of cohesiveness out there."

--On QB Chris Sanders starting 15/15 before throwing an incomplete pass
"Chris probably had his best week of practice since the beginning of the year this past week so we were expecting big things from him. It certainly looked like he was beginning to really see the field and wasn't forcing things during practice this week and when it translated to the field against a quality opponent like Maryland, that's encouraging to see. Hopefully we can continue to build on this early success."

Thanks man. I hope so! I'm in the process of playing them and they're playing me tougher than I thought they would.

Thanks for reading and hope you enjoy. It's minimal, but I try to keep it interesting still.

    Coach O'Connor's Quotes
--On the defensive performance this week
"Quite frankly, we played like crap. Those three big passing plays for TDs were unacceptable. I know we're better than this on defense and we've got to do a better job if we have a prayer of truly making this year special. The coaches are definitely not happy with this performance."

--On yet another incredible performance by Chris Sanders
"He, once again, played like we know he can play. He made some incredible reads out there and played lights out. If we can get that from him every game, we have a chance to beat anyone in the country."

--On Junor (RS) WR Joe Pollard's 10 reception 231 yard 3 TD game
"Anytime you have a receiver play as well as he played, it's wonderful, but when that receiver isn't even the guy that you count on to make those type of plays every day, it's that much better. That's the great thing about this offense, when the defense concentrates on one player or one area of the field, we are able to exploit that by going to other players or areas of the field to continue to move our offense down the field."

    Coach O'Connor's Quotes
--On the injuries to Sophomore (RS) starters Williams Stewart and Paris Stone
"Both are fine. They were nicked up enough where we felt that should remain out of the game but further examinations revealed nothing serious so they'll be practicing and everything this week. Nothing to worry about at all."

--Injury updates for the linebacking core
"MLB Stephon Hooper is coming along nicely, according to our medical staff. We are expecting him back by bowl season, at the latest. OLB Josh Brady, unfortunately, is a whole other story, his broken collarbone is very serious and will require extensive rehabilitation. Unfortunately, it looks like he's definitely out for the rest of this season."

    --
On the progression of the offensive and defensive systems
"We're always looking to add new wrinkles to gameplans on both sides of the ball and we have done just that for both sides. We've been practicing a few new things during the week, but wanted to wait until our break in our schedule to start implementing them so, look for a few different things in the next few weeks as we start to make some adjustments to our schemes."

Visit From Lots of Big Names This Weekend In Worcester

With SAU playing a home game against Florida International in week 8 of the 2015 season, Coach O'Connor and company have apparently made it the weekend for recruiting efforts, scheduling eight recruits to make their visit to the campus this weekend.

When asked why bring them all in at once, O'Connor replied, "We try to present an atmosphere of excellence with our campus visits, and, in doing so, we bring them all here at once to show that they are all already part of our football family if they choose to be. Of course, it certainly helps when you have a program winning football games like we do."

The breakdown of the recruits coming to visit Worcester this weekend:

DE #117 - Marcus Pollard - Old Bridge, NJ
    6'3" - 219 lbs - 63.00

Marcus brings excellent run stopping skills with his ability to shed blocks and bone crunching tackles.

    C #44 - Ken Downing - West Milford, NJ
    6'0", 327 lbs - 57.00

Ken is a talented pass blocker and will be a great addition to an offense is on pace to throw the ball 660 times this season.

    G #89 - Robert Flores - Beverly, MA
    6'2", 301 lbs - 57.00

Robert's pass blocking skills are very much coveted as he would be a most welcomed addition to the offensive line.

OLB #116 - Derek Atkins - South Hooksett, NH
    6'7", 229 lbs - 56.00

Derek's height was definitely the thing that really made us pay attention to him. While he's not blazing fast, he's certainly fast enough. While he is raw, he'll be great depth while he continues to grow in the system.

    T #97 - Thomas Thomas - Westfield, MA
    6'6", 270 lbs - 50.00

A locale prospect, Thomas displays good run blocking skills and will be great depth.

ATH #84 - John Daniels - Sebring, FL
    6'4", 270 lbs - 50.00

John brings talented pass blocking skills to the table along with possible defensive lineman abilities. A real mauler inside, we expect him to be a talented player.

FS #82 - Paul Palmer - Springfield, MA
    6'0", 187 lbs - 59.00

Paul displays wonderful range and knowledge of the game. He would be a welcomed addition to our secondary.

WR #240 - Michael Dobzinski - Rahway, NJ
    6'0", 238 lbs - 59.00

Michael has excellent ability for his low stock and his TE size will be a great addition to our WR corp.

Needlessly to say, this weekend's game against FIU is the biggest of the season, with the outcome possibly deciding the future of this year's draft class.

I just hope you'll take it easy on my boys and go into clock killing mode after a 20-25 point lead.

    Coach O'Connor's Quotes
--On QB Chris Sanders breaking the school record for passing TDs in a game
"What can I say? The kid has been very well the past few weeks. I think something as finally clicked for him and we're seeing what he's truly able to do in this offense. Just gotta progress it further as those interceptions were definitely not what we want to see more often."

    --On being bowl eligible now
"It's great to see. Many people thought we didn't have a chance of producing a winning season after getting hit so hard by the NCAA over what the previous regime did here at SAU. To produce what we've done after that is really something."

On The Recruiting Trail, Part Deux

After a wonderful performance by SAU against FIU, 5 prospects expressed their interest in joining the SAU football roster next season with letters of intent.

    C Ken Downing
    OLB Derek Atkins
    ATH John Daniels
    FS Paul Palmer
    WR Michael Dobzinski

That pushes their roster of added recruits up to 7, adding the above 5 to:

    QB Dennis Phillips
TE Tom Burley (who, for some odd reason, isn't being counted as a recruit for my contract purposes...)
