Hell, I predate the Atari 2600. I didn't play a single online console game until the 2000s. Nonetheless, I'm sure people can survive a month or so without online gaming without blowing a gasket. And especially since PSN is free.

Don't worry, it isn't going to drop. You can still DL patches without the PSN but the great developer that made the game is using this as an excuse to delay the patch indefinitely basically saying they cannot test anything. That game sucks the more I play it.

I just don't see why they can't put the servers up at peak gaming hours and then shut em down and do what they need to during down hours...

Because as soon as they put them back up, they're going to get bombarded by DDos attacks so they better make sure their shit is straight or it won't be up for long.

What you mean hackers do their thing during "peak gaming hours"? You think of EVERYTHING!

Bingo. If they're not secure when they go back up, they'll be back down within practically no time. Sony's already getting threatened with more attacks, some claiming to be from disgruntled Sony fans who aren't happy with the security/downtime.

So...they hack it again meaning it'll be down even longer? That's genius. They should be commended for such brilliance.

Nah, they've already moved on. They're just tired of incompetence and want to make them pay for it.

Personally, I think it's hilarious. This has to be the biggest failure EVER by a company when it comes to a service provided by them being down. A few days would have been a snafu, but this is absolutely insane. It's been ~2 1/2 weeks since it got taken down. That's simply unacceptable.

    My thoughts exactly.

    http://www.pcworld.com/article/22729...rt_claims.html

Now it seems that Sony should be preparing itself for another hack--this time from scorned PSN, Qriocity, and Sony Online network users. Apparently Sony's apology wasn't enough to make up for the fact that the company took over a week to disclose the breach to its customers.

Is it just me, or is this whole "fighting fire with fire" thing not working out? CNET suggests that the group of hackers planning this weekend's attack is the same group of hackers that originally infiltrated the PSN servers--in other words, that the hackers who hacked the network are annoyed with Sony's mishandling of their attack, so they're going to attack Sony again. Genius move there, guys. That's like me robbing a grocery store and then getting self-righteously pissed at the grocery store for having poor security.

Yeah, no kidding. They'll launch PS4 without a network whatsoever.

If Microsoft was smart they should start offering a trade in credit for your PS3 on a new Xbox.

True, but that would be a backhand that could be bad pub in the end.

Verizon did it with ATT iphone users and nobody seemed to care. A "little" bit different since you are actually switching products, but you were still switching services.

It would certainly pose a challenge to hackers to attack XBL. I'm sure MS would rather keep out of it, hope they aren't attacked, and let Sony look bad on their own.

Yep same thing I was thinking.
