Central Michigan shoots the cannon off after every point, including extra points. The cannon is placed to the right of the building on the open side of the stadium, on the hill. It's a modern military one operated by the ROTC

Its kept on the field in whatever endzone the offense is going towards.

No cannons for Louisville, just a horn.
The Utes fire a cannon nicknamed Ute Thunder after EVERY Ute score including touchdowns, field goals, AND extra points. The cannon is located in the south-east corner of the stadium. It occupies the empty space between the south stands and the east stands. Attached is a clear picture of where the cannon is stationed during games:

You're absolutely correct, that is the cannon. It's a modern military version, and we do fire it off after every score. If it helps, that is the north endzone, where there are no bleachers directly behind it, just a building with training rooms and the such.

The Cannon - After every Ohio score, an 1800s style military cannon is fired. When the Bobcats enter the field, the cannon shoots off a smoke "O" that can be seen for several minutes before fading into the air.

Touchdown Tommy - T.T. is the cannon that is fired off when the team runs out of the tunnel, after every point that the Hurricanes score, and the conclusion of a victory. The cannon is kept by the Sigma Chi fraternity's Cannon Master and fired off during the games by the senior brothers of Sigma Chi.

The California Victory Cannon was presented to the Rally Committee in time for the 1963 Big Game by the class of 1964. It is shot off at the beginning of each game, after each score, and after each Cal victory. Only once, against UOP on September 7, 1991, did the Bears score too many times for the cannon, racking up 12 touchdowns (no field goals) on the lowly Tigers.
Originally, the cannon was kept on the sidelines of the football field. Due to Stanfurd's mishandling of their cannon in 1970 (while rumors say they shot a ramrod into the Cal rooting section the fact is that they fired their cannon prematurely and fortunately injured only one person), all game-time pyrotechnics were banned by the Pac-8 in 1971. Since that time, the cannon has been mounted on Charter (Tightwad) Hill above and in clear view from the stadium.

The Football Cannon
Everyone who attends a Rockets football game knows when UT scores by the traditional “boom” of the cannon. The cannon originates from a Pi Kappa Phi member who bartered his cannon for his fraternity dues because he was short on money. The cannon is a Civil War era model, one of the oldest around. In 1953, the men of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity fired the first cannon shot at a Rocket’s football game from aloft the northeast Blockhouse in the Glass Bowl stadium. The cannon continued to be fired from this position until 1989, when the cannon had to be moved to the field because of structural concerns with the Blockhouse. In 1990, the cannon was fired from the northwest corner of the end zone. Then during the beginning of the 1995 football season, because of concerns of the on-field media, the administration decided to move the cannon once more to its present day position in the southeast corner of the field near the student section. Blasts are fired at the beginning of each home game, at the end of each quarter, and after every Rocket score. The Toledo community will continue to hear the continuous score of the Rockets football team through the mighty sound of the cannon at each home game.
Edit (by bsta93): The cannon no longer resides on the field. It was moved after a wide receiver was shoved into it during a game in 2009, I believe it was the Colorado game. The cannon is now located on a pillar in the northeast part of the stadium, on top of the football building.

Unclear.....they started using a cannon in 2009, but cannot find out if that is still the case.
Army ROTC and athletics department officials at the University of Kansas have arranged to fire a 75mm cannon each time the KU football team scores a touchdown or field goal in Memorial Stadium this season. - Link
