Honestly, I don't think even having Harmonix stick around would have helped (though it would have meant one less competitor, obviously). Yearly titles in the peripheral music genre is what fundamentally killed it. And the design of Guitar Hero (and the title specific DLC) killed GH for me. If I was to pick up either game right now, it would be Rock Band, because then I can utilize all the DLC dating back to Day 1, if I have specific songs I want to play.

Peripheral based games were not profitable for Activision in 2010.
In a somewhat unsurprising statement given the earlier announcement of Guitar Hero's end, Activision nonetheless emphasized that not only did series such as Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero fail to meet expectations in 2010, they did not reach profitability. This would explain why Activision took such drastic measures in ending both series rather than trying to radically reinvent them, the route they've tried over the last two years with Tony Hawk: Ride and Shred, and Guitar Hero 5 and Warriors of Rock and the more casual friendly Band Hero.
Damn.

Heavy Rain & God of War III now Greatest Hits.
I saw some ranting about Gamestop and wanted to put in my 2 cents.
I agree some of those younger people don't seem to know anything about customer service, but that's really not anything to do with Gamestop, it's EVERYWHERE. I feel like an old man when I go anywhere that requires the associates to speak to you...they just don't do it like I was trained and I'm only 34.
Now, onto my rant about Gamestop. Seeing as how they do not have customer service skills, and all they seem to be doing is "holding the counter down with their back side" I don't see why 1 of them can't be incharge of updating inventory.
It annoys me to know end to use their online search feature to "check in-store availibitly". We have 3 gamestops here in town, well EVERY single time I use that feature it's WRONG. I check it and it says they have it at 2 of the 3. So I call and make sure before driving over there...well the "super teenager" working there says, "well if the internet says we have it, then we have it." I ask him/her to check and they are all of sudden too busy.
So I drive over there, sure enough, they DO NOT have it and when they check their computer inventory they tell me the other 2 stores DO have it. It's ALWAYS OFF.
Either way, I get back in the car and drive to one of the other stores and they have it, it just would be nice to not have to make unnecessary trips. This could easily be solved by one of those kids, turning their cell phones off, stop texting and check the inventory. It would be a headache at first but if you got it undercontrol, then did it once per day it would be easy to stay on top of.
Morale of the story, after internet searching, driving around on the wild goose chase I picked up Top Spin 3 for PS3 for $17. The man at the store told me it wouldn't go down that much when Top Spin 4 comes out b/c it's not popular like NCAA or Madden. He said those titles (madden & ncaa) drop like a rock in price b/c they get 100+ used copies the week/day before the new one comes out. He said it's not like that w/ the tennis game. He said it might drop a few dollars but not down like the NCAA and Madden do. So I went ahead and bought it....going to be annoying if it's $2 the day after Top Spin 4 comes out...but what are you gonna do?
Question/suggestion....
I now own 2 PS3 games, NCAA 11 and Top Spin 3, haven't tried TP3 yet but here is my question. I have Tiger Woods 12 Collector's Edition pre-ordered. I'm torn between selling NCAA 11 back, the manager at Gamestop told me if I'm going to sell it back, I need to do it before the 6th of March. He said that is when it will start dropping in price and trade-in value.
My problem is, I LOVE THIS GAME. I don't really want to be without a college football game for what would be close to 4+ months. I know I'll be busy with Tiger Woods and probably this Top Spin 3 but I'm in a few OD that will "hopefully" last until the new NCAA 12 comes out (which I'll buy for sure!).
So would you sell/trade-in NCAA 11? I know I will not play it when 12 comes out. I've had this issue for years, basically as long as I've been playing the series, since back in the days of college (late 90s). Every year I trade NCAA in on the newer version and I get a whopping $.50-2.00....WEEEEEEEE I know that's the nature of the beast, but if I could trade it ......blah blah blah....
I feel like the million dollar man ("Everyone has a price")...anyone remember him from WWF Wrestling?
While I was typing this up I figured I'd call Gametstop and just see how much that current trade-in is worth. Well, in good condition, it's a WHOLE $18. So Nevermind, going to keep it and play it. Sorry for wasting server space.
Happy Gaming!
Picked up Days of Thurder: NASCAR Edition last night off PSN. First thing I noticed upon loading it is that it's not using the real soundtrack, or even a decent soundalike. Then I discovered that hitting Select gives you your choice of Background Music, including anything on your HDD.
First thing I did was quit the game, download my copy of the Days of Thunder Score off of my PC, then set it up as the background music for the game, lol

It would actually be $27 because they're doing a 50% extra trade in value. Considering I'd value NCAA '11 at about $10, I'd definitely take almost $30 for it.
Gamestop does suck, though. If you have time, eBay or Amazon are much better when trading in games unless GS is holding one of their 50% extra like they are now til March 6.
Yeah, but ... you hate the game
That said, gigem, he's not completely wrong. Last year when Gamestop was running a 50% extra trade-in event, I took advantage of it by trading in NCAA 10. If you think you're going to trade it in ever before NCAA 12 releases, now is probably the best time to do it.

I didn't mean it that way. Granted, I don't like it, but it's now over 6 months since it released and info will be coming out for '12 soon, so it would be logical to get rid of it now unless he plans on playing it a lot. GS only does the 50% extra once, MAYBE twice a year, so this opportunity doesn't happen often. Besides, that trade in value is only going to get lower with time.
I do what you do, Jeff. I save old games that I wont play, and then I trade them in when they do the 50% extra. That's the absolutely only time I'll do it because I find their prices to be absurd and I don't have time to mess around with eBay or online services like that. Hell, if you have a Power Up card, the 50% extra stacks with that so you'd be getting an extra 60%.
It's surprisingly decent, but I may be giving it a bit of a pass because I was honestly expecting it to be soooooooo horrible and campy. It's definitely arcadey and if you don't mind laughing out loud more than once, you might enjoy it. I've seen cars do flips and land and keep going and other very, very weird stuff. The CPU AI is expectedly horrible (and is full of Rubber-band), though they have managed to give me a run for my money on a few occasions.
If you do get it, don't be misled by the "Pre-Season" races in career. I blew through those so fast I thought the entire game was going to be a joke. The Sprint (season) races are much longer, much harder, etc.
Then again, I haven't been doing myself any favors. I've wrecked with 2 laps to go in each of the last two races and gone from 1st to mid-pack.
Oh, the car paint/customizations options are HORRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIBBBBBBLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEE, and they also used multiple paint schemes for several drivers (like Tony Stewart and Denny Hamilin), so you see two drivers driving around the track with the same # and practically the same car, but totally different names.
