Sligo Rovers put on another dominating performance on Friday night and this time they got the result to go with it.
With bottom-of-the-table Shelbourne in town, Sligo were 2-0 winners after outshooting their opposition 16(7) to 7(1) allowing Gary Rogers to keep his twelfth clean sheet of the season.
Aaron Greene lobbed a through ball to the 18-yard line and David Cawley struck a looping volley over the keeper and just under the crossbar at 35' to get Rovers on the board. In the 54th minute, it was Danny Ventre's turn as the midfielder struck from 14 yards to make it 2-0.
Gavin Pears had a second Man of the Match performance in three outings, intercepting 9 passes while completing 80% of his own.
CAM Lee Lynch suffered a hyper-extended knee and is expected to miss three weeks.
Sligo (11-11-6) remain fifth in the League of Ireland table, 8 points behind leaders, St. Patrick's Athletic and Derry City. Rovers will visit third-placed Dundalk (14-9-5) on March 7 in a crucial match for Sligo's hopes of qualifying for Europe.
