My PS3 has YLOD'd. I'm currently considering my options, I may try to disassemble it and reflow. Until I figure out what I'm going to do, I'm SOL with the OD. I'll keep you guys posted, if it becomes a problem - feel free to sim me or retire me.

I bought some thermal compound and a heat gun. I completely pulled my system apart and did a reflow. Now, I'm back on it typing this message. Some guys at PlayStationLifeStyle.com (where I got the tutorial to do the reflow) have said the fix has lasted them anywhere from minutes to "it still works". Hopefully, mine will be among the latter. For now, I'm back in business (just 18 hours after the YLOD)!! BTW, I have a 60 GB fatty that I got in December 06.Originally Posted by cdj

LOL I'm still on a 60 GB Launch Fatty too. Knock on wood no issues yet other than a damn TSA Agent dropping it and cracking the side. Still works like a charm.
Well, I can testify that the reflow fix works. I woke up this morning with some allergy issues which were, no doubt, caused by the massive amount of dust I cleaned from my system. If my system craps out again, I will do the reflow again (and probably a reflux to be safe) and promptly surrender it to GameStop for $150. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I did a good enough job to keep it going for a long time. The good news is that I now know that I can get my system going again if it YLODs, even if it's only long enough to get all my data.

I can testify that reflow works too, though I didnt' do it myself. Paid a local guy to do it ... I didn't have the confidence that I would get it right on the first try.

Being that you're a computer guy (I certainly am not), I'm sure you could do it. It took about 4-5 hours, but I just had the tutorial up, watched, paused, did what he did, and hit play again. It really was very easy.
Out of curiosity are we just going to keep these sliders after the patch/tune or are we looking at making some possible adjustments?
