$45 wouldn't make that big of an impact, because you still lose all potential resale value. The only way they're going to get people to commit to a digital future is 1. force it down their throats or 2. have Steam like sales with deep discounts. Digital is the way to go for everyone when implemented correctly. It saves publishers money by not having to manufacture discs. It saves the customer time and money because theoretically it should be cheaper and you don't have to run to the store to get it. I guess it doesn't really help retailers, but they're more or less a middleman anyway.

Now, if these recent rumors about Xbox potentially implementing a system where you can buy/sell digitally purchased games, that's a potentially huge system that would definitely generate interest in the digital space. That gives the potential for ALL the benefits I listed earlier PLUS you still get to keep that resale value. Whether or not it's real is anyone's guess, but it'll be a nice system if true.

40 bucks is too cheap that is cheaper than PC, granted I would love for it to be 40.00 but I think 45.00-50.00 would be the number where everyone (more-less the dev) would be happy.

Then have the games start falling in price PDQ ala PC gaming.

I could see $40. $45, I can't. I know that if I was offered a digital copy with no possible resell for $45 vs. a physical copy for $60, I'd go with the physical copy every single time, because by the time I beat it and sell it, it would only be a $20 or $30 purchase.

You are beating and reselling pretty quick to get a 25.00, 30.00 resell value.
    t
At 40.00 or 45.00 I would do digital, save my 15.00 bucks or so (65.00 after tax) and not care about resell, mostly because I didnt have to get off my lazy ass and go anywhere and actually deal with people trying to sell me other shit. LOL

Yeah he's certainly beating/finishing games faster than I do. Like I said it varies (obviously) but I usually get $10 - $15 from Amazon when I trade a game in.

This is really a math problem more than anything else so I'm sure someone much better at math than I am can figure out what the average re-sell value is for all consumers and then drop the price accordingly.

Not really. I take my time. I just sell them on eBay rather than trading them in. Bought Bioshock Infinite at launch for $60, finally beat it and sold it a few weeks ago for $35. If you're trading games in, you're just getting ripped off.

I think its safe to assume that's what most people are doing, when I trade hell thats what I do because its easier and faster than going the ebay route.

When I worked at gamestop they normally gave 30% of what they were going to sell it for ( and checking various other stores it seemed about on par with everyone else), so if they were going to sell it for 54.99 you would get around 16.00 (of course this varies on popularity and any specials), so based upon that the 40.00 to 45.00 tag is just about right.

Edit: Just faster Ebay is pretty fucking easy!

2k has had the PC version of their NBA game starting at $40 for 4 years now and I'd almost guarantee that it sells like hotcakes because of it.

If you still haven't ordered your PS4, you can still get one on Launch Day. Amazon is offering a pre-order for a bundle with an extra controller for $460.

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan is scheduled to host a press conference in the wee hours of morning on Monday, September 9, says the PlayStation Europe Twitter account. What exactly will be discussed remains a mystery, though it seems almost certain that the PlayStation 4 will be a focal point.

If you'd like to watch the event unfold you can catch a live stream on the official PlayStation.blog. The stream begins at 7 a.m. BST, which translates to 2 a.m. Eastern/11 p.m. Pacific, with the latter technically falling on Sunday night. Sony's translators will be on hand to create a live, English-language transcript of the conference.

With the announcement of PS Vita TV, users can play PS4 games remotely on other TVs within the home.

Yeah they are in trouble on that issue. They want to protect bluerays from being ripped but people use PS4 to capture and post to youtube. With no component they pretty much have to decide whats more important.

Not really. They can have it allowed for games and not allowed for movies and other applications. Xbox is doing just that. No excuse for it to not work on games.
