Microsoft had to follow suit sooner or later or Sony was going to lock down all the important Indie games and leave Microsoft sitting there wanting but not getting any.

As for consumers not caring about Indie games, that's entirely not true at all. That may be the case for you, but the 8 million units that were sold of Mojang's Minecraft on the 360 (at $15 a pop) have something different to say about it. People are more interested than ever in Indie games (myself included) as that is where the truly good games are coming from.

So, Microsoft and Sony absolutely care about Indie games and it's about fuckin' time as they've missed out on some of the best games in the past 5 years because of their shortsightedness.
The casual consumer doesn't care about indie games, as they dont take the time to actually learn/research what indie games are good, I am not generally speaking about all consumers. I would also say minecraft is the exception as it is not really "indie" anymore, maybe when it was PC only it would have been considered "indie".

Think about how many shitty "indie" games are out there, yes there are some good ones and honestly even some of the ones people said were good when I played them, the "curve" was either too steep or frankly they were boring as shit and I would say that I am not even a casual gamer, but a time limited gamer.

Hardcore gamers care about indie games as they are willing to take the time to find that gem, when I say casual gamer I am looking at the person who plays COD once a month, or some other pick up and play style game.

Minecraft is a self-published game, aka Indie.

As for the fuckers that just play COD, well, that's all they play anyway so who gives a fuck about them? They're meaningless to either console in the long run because they do nothing but playing shitty COD.

LOL there you go with your COD hate! While I to don't like COD , the fact of the matter is they have set the standard for the casual gamer, their game is pick up and play like it or not, and what each console is trying to do is win that player over to get them away from COD ( frankly I am just using COD as an example choose any AAA title) and get them into more games. Your first assessment was spot on they are doing it for the developers to have "dibs" on that gem in case it crops back up.

I just don't know why these gaming publications keep saying it as though its a deal breaker, maybe for the hardcore crowd but not the casual player, the systems/and publication already have the hardcore crowd, they need the new blood to come in.

By strict definition Minecraft was an indie game but lets be honest it graduated from that point some time ago.

I don't get all this horseshit Sony is stewing up anyway. Live Arcade has long been the better place for indies. For YEARS, Sony's store was an absolute joke and has only recently begun to get better (why? because the Live Arcade was making a killing off these types of games). I realize there wasn't any self-publishing, but let's be real here, if the game is of any quality whatsoever, they can find a publisher and get their game on Live.

Same goes for Sony all of the sudden being the white knight for having an easy to develop for console. I nearly bust a nut laughing every time I hear someone say that as an advantage. Developers spent this entire generation with their pain in the ass to develop for console, so of course it's a huge relief that Sony is going back to a more PC like architecture. You know why Microsoft isn't getting reaped with all the glory of being easy to develop for? BECAUSE THE 360 WAS ALWAYS EASY TO DEVELOP FOR AND THE ONE IS USING A SIMILAR ARCHITECTURE, SO DUH, IT'S GOING TO BE EASY TO DEVELOP FOR. They just don't have to say that because their previous console wasn't a pain in the ass.

It's unbelievable to me how quickly everyone forgets all the shit Sony has pulled simply because they're priced cheaper and they used the public's uninformed opinions about the One to rile up more support for their system.

I especially think it's funny how everyone was all up in Microsoft for possibly invading everyone's privacy with Kinect, and yet they forget how Sony didn't tell customers that their credit cards were potentially exposed until AN ENTIRE WEEK after they were hacked and brought down for a month a few years ago.

Some of you guys need to realize that Sony and/or Microsoft aren't your friends. They want your money. Nothing else. We just all better be thankful that they both exist, otherwise we'd be seeing some $800 console with 24/7 required DRM and $100 games.

I've been saying that for months.

All these idiots on the internet (not CLW, just to make it clear, I'm talking the dumbasses on fan sites or IGN or wherever) hoping for one console or the other to die. If one console drops out, they're going to wish for the days of two consoles to return. Do they really think Microsoft or Sony are going to go through all these hoops to make people happy if there's no competitor? They can price their console as high as they want, loaded with all the DRM they want. Sure, a lot of people may drop console gaming and either move to PC or give up gaming altogether, but there will always be people who will buy the console regardless.

If the Xbox One wasn't around, the PS4 would not be priced $399. It would be much higher, because Sony wouldn't have to compete with anyone other than PC gaming. They may not have to spend so much time working on the console, it could literally being PS3.5. Slap the PS4 name on it, slap a $600+ price tag on it, it'll still get snapped up by people everywhere. They wouldn't sell as much as they are/will right now, but it would still sell.

People bitch about there not being competition for Madden/NCAA (though it's looking like there won't be ANY NCAA much longer), but then they want no competition for the consoles. I swear these dumbshits don't actually pull their heads out of their asses and think sometimes.

Yeah I enjoy both when I own the other

Like I said I kept my 360 hard drive holding onto hope that I'd get another one eventually. Haven't had one since 07.

Only reason I haven't/didn't get another one was because I was holding out just in case my fat PS3 failed..which it finally did last year. And the fact my son was born and wife is staying at home.

So I like both and hope to get a One or 360 eventually.

I hope they both die. Then games won't be "ported" to PCs and look like a piece of shit because of it.

That trend should stop anyway. With both of these consoles having very similar PC like architectures, I don't see any reason why developers wouldn't start out with the PC version and then just scale it back by removing the unnecessary effects to get it to run on the weaker consoles. I guess it'll depend on the developer just like this generation. There were gems like Borderlands 2, and then there were complete duds like Darksiders 2.

I don't want XB1 to "die" (Dreamcast) b/c as mentioned above the competition MS provided last gen has forced Sony to up its game. Competition/capitalism is ALWAYS best for the consumer over a Monopoly.

If we get it here in the US, then sweet! I could go for some FIFA 14 action on the Xbox One.

Every time CLW posts in the Xbox One thread God lowers Duke's chance to win another National Title and raises North Carolina's.

    Conformed for Europe.

Would be nice if they threw in Madden for US and Canadian customers.

Also legendary players in Ultimate team are exclusive to Xbox.

    and the complete launch lineup.

well EA is all-in with Microsoft. You would have thought after E3's debacle EA would have lightened up on which console they "prefer" clearly they wanted the DRM and are rewarding MS with the appearance that there are no EA games on PS4.
