I'd sue the fuck out them. That is incompetence on an epic scale. Once is understandable (everyone makes mistakes), but twice is absolutely mindbogglingly dumb.

That's what I'm trying to figure out.
That's exactly what I've been saying. The first time, alright, it may have just indeed been an accident. But two times, with the exact same doctor, the exact same thing happens, the same lung and everything. And this time it's worse since she's now got an infection near her heart and is tubed all to hell in ICU. The first time she had to stay in the hospital for 3 days or so (for what was supposed to be a one day procedure), this time she's been in for four days now and they have no clue when she might be able to be released. Right now, we're not expecting any time this week.
And considering she's in her upper 80s, if not 90s (I can't remember for sure), it's not like she has a whole lot of strength to battle through this shit every time.
Now I have no say in the whole matter, though my uncle has had power of attorney for a couple years now since she's been suffering dementia and Alzheimer's for years now. But you damn well better believe I'm bringing up the words lawsuit and medical malpractice every time I can. Hell, I've already mentioned it two or three times earlier this morning.
If anything, the money that would be won in a medical malpractice lawsuit would completely cover the costs of any nursing home or home health care in the future for her, since she has been getting worse and worse mentally lately, and going into all this, the question was would she be allowed to come home or be ordered into a nursing home if she started acting up in one of her moments while in the hospital.
you have a case if you did sue. 2 fuck ups by the same doctor on the same procedure, and he's not checking up on her...he's not exactly showing a patient the proper care, nor does he know what he's doing.
if you do have a lawsuit, make sure you guarantee that your medical expenses and lawyer expenses are covered, plus the other amounts for future health care.
alzheimers and dementia suck. my Grandpa had em before he died. there was nothing worse for me, emotionally, than looking him in the eye and him not remembering who i was.
Yeah, this doctor has been a total idiot. There have been a couple of decent nurses. One nurse that yesterday let my mom and uncle stay in the ICU room with my grandma most of the afternoon. They only have certain hours you can visit (something like 10 to noon, 2pm to 4pm, 5pm to 7pm and 8pm to 10pm the last one of the night), but this nurse allowed them both to stay in the room with my grandma the entire afternoon. So there are some decent nurses working there.
Last night was another case of pathetic by this doctor. He was on the floor checking up on patients, my mom and uncle waiting for him to come in before they left, two hours later, doctor still hadn't come in. Nurses had no clue, they said sometimes he just checks the charts outside the room and moves on. Never once from morning to 9-10pm, did this doctor once stop in to check on things.
Now my grandma has to go in for a full, more intensive, intrusive surgery. While they called the whole thing with the pacemaker a procedure, this is full "knock your ass out" with general anesthesia surgery in an actual full surgery room. One of the wires they put in isn't laying on the correctly. So if my grandma moves too much or in a particular way, something could happen with this wire to send her into defib. So tomorrow they're taking out her chest tubes, then Thursday, she's going to head into surgery where they're going to crack her ribs and open her chest to get direct access to put the wires correctly in place.
So we're not sure what to expect going into this surgery. She's in her upper 80s/lower 90s in age, she's already naturally weakened due to age and just because she doesn't do as much anymore due to Alzheimer's and dementia. She's already been through a ton of shit since last Thursday, now, after a full week of laying in a hospital bed with little to no movement (they've kept her in the bed, hooked up to a catheter, they don't want her getting up at all), she will be going under general anesthesia and having her ribs cracked and everything else. If something goes wrong during the surgery Thursday (lets be honest, after the past two fuck ups in "simple procedures" by this doctor and this hospital, we're not exactly holding our breath here), god only knows what will happen. My aunt is coming in today from Baltimore to be up in Toledo these next couple days, since no one has any clue what will happen before, during and after the surgery.
After all this crap, I've sworn off Mercy Hospitals for life. I don't care if something happens to me and I'm laying there in the middle of the road right in front of a Mercy Hospital, hemorrhaging blood from a gaping head wound, I will refuse treatment if they try to take me to and treat me at a Mercy Hospital.
Florida woman allegedly stabs boyfriend after he farts in her face

Deborah Ann Burns, 37, was arrested last week for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
And perhaps not surprisingly, deputies say alcohol helped fuel the argument.
The Immokalee woman told Collier County detectives that she stabbed her boyfriend of six years after an argument broke out while the two were watching a nightly television program.
Burns' boyfriend told deputies that they began arguing over money. They both got up and went into the kitchen.
That was when Burns said her boyfriend walked by and farted in her face, according to an arrest report.
According to the report, Burns confronted him about the fart and he became agitated, ordering her to shut up.
That's when deputies say the argument escalated and became physical between Burns and the 53-year-old boyfriend, Willie Butler. He allegedly chased her through the kitchen and threw a knife at her, which missed, according to the arrest report.
When authorities responded to a report of a possible stabbing, deputies found Burns' boyfriend standing front of his mailbox. He had cuts to his abdomen and left forearm.
While deputies were talking to him, they could smell a strong odor of alcohol from him.
He told authorities that Burns threw a kitchen knife at him, striking him in the abdomen. He then said she ran out of the house and returned shortly where another argument took place.
This time, Burns struck him with a stick in the left arm, causing another cut, according to court documents.
Burns' boyfriend made no mention of the alleged fart, but did tell deputies that if Burns returned, "he would kick her (butt) and take care of her."
Burns denied cutting Butler, according to the arrest report. Butler was so intoxicated and combative that deputies said they could not obtain a sworn statement from him.
Burns remains in custody on a $50,000 bond.

Carlos Danger and Ron Mexico FTW!
That's creepy? That sounds like your standard text/IM "dirty" conversation between two people. Hell, a chick I dated in college, we were sitting there texting back and forth like that while we were both working one day, describing what we'd do to each other. We hadn't yet had sex at the time, but that day of texting pretty well set the stage for the start of sex within the next week.
Whoever put all that together is SERIOUSLY overreaching with the whole attempt to label it "creepy" and "creep show". The only thing that could even remotely fit that description is the fact that he's married, having that conversation with some random chick, having been caught in a similar situation previously while in Congress. But even then, pfft, oh well. Adultery and cheating happens every single day in every single city in every single state, including active members of Congress from BOTH parties.
