Servers for MAG, SOCOM 4, and SOCOM: Confrontation are shutting down on January 28, 2014, Sony has announced. As it stands, the server shutdowns will essentially make MAG and Confrontation obsolete, due to their reliance on online play.
The news follows the closure of MAG and SOCOM studio Zipper Interactive last year. When asked then about future SOCOM entries, Sony Worldwide Studios chief Shuhei Yoshida said his company never retires a franchise. Nonetheless, today's news will sound like a death knell for fans of the long-running shooter series, and certainly as one for MAG, which will go offline two days short of its fourth birthday.

SOCOM 4 is the biggest turd in the history of gaming. Shame on you, Sony. They best thing they've ever done will be putting it out of it's misery in January

No one is going to win those things legitimately because it's already clear that Sony isn't monitoring this for the fuckers who hack their systems and instantly unlocks all trophies for any game.Yeah I got ZERO chance. The first auction ended and the user "REDSOXFAN95" won it. If you take a gander at his stats here, you'll see that the vast majority of his trophies are unlocked at the same time for his respective games. For example, click on Black Ops 2 and notice how most of his trophies were unlocked on January 2nd literally seconds apart. Dishonored all unlocked at the exact same time. Killzone 3 is the same way. Hell, most of his games are the same way.
It's really lame that Sony doesn't monitor those in the first place (Xbox Live bans the morons as they should be), and it's really, REALLY lame that Sony holds a contest like this and allows the cheaters to win.
