Honestly, I'd be tempted to go that route. I already buy all my games new, so I'm paying full price anyways. And practically no one puts manuals in the cases anymore, just their EULA crap. So simply buying and downloading games straight from the console and skipping the Amazon/B&M stores would work for me if I wanted to do that.

lmao if that isn't the BIGGEST admission of defeat ever I don't know what is. It will be interesting to see how this plays out now.

Will consumers say "all is forgiven"? I mean after all NOTHING would stop MS from re-instituting the DRM policy at a later date after you've paid for your console of course.

I'm really hoping that digital prices start to fall a little bit. Sony and Microsoft are both HORRIBLE at prices for full retail digital games. Offer them at $45 or $50 day one and people will buy it. Besides, it SHOULD be cheaper. No discs to manufacture, no shipping and packaging, no dealing with retail stores, it's all 100% pure profit. There's no reason why they should be full price, IMO.
Completely agree. You should at the very least get $10 off the games. A) Because of all the things you mention. B) It pleases the Game Publishers, since you can't resell it, thus "not costing them a sale."

Nice! So it is indeed official then. I think I may cancel my PS4 pre-order now. While it would be nice to get both, Shelling out $900 literally weeks before the holiday season (and the other loads of money I'll be spending then) is a little steep for my wallet. Since there is no longer any DRM to deal with on the Xbox One, any remotely potential issue there is no longer valid. Only issue is RRODs/overheating. Otherwise, I'm good to go full speed ahead on the Xbox One. I may still get the PS4 down the road, but their exclusives (other than MLB The Show) have never really be something I just HAD to have. Xbox on the other hand, has Halo, and will have Titanfall.

Good point, never thought of that. Since that is the case, you'd think publishers would be really trying to go after digital sales by making them more enticing. Personally, if there was a $10 or $15 discount over retail, I'd go digital only in a heartbeat. However, when the price is the same, I just don't see the point...I guess I'd rather have a physical product if it's the same price.

Yep its the BIGGEST difference between "Steam model" and PSN/Live model. You give up your right of selling something you ought to get something back in return (i.e. lower price due to giving up that right).

I'm seriously disappointed that family share thing is gone. That was the main reason I was excited for the One. I understand they had to do that since the online check is now gone, but still, I was really looking forward to that.

Actually this may sway to x1 first instead of the ps4. Again the only exclussive on ps4 was MLB the show and I can live with out that for know.

Yeah if they're the same price I agree, I'd much rather have the physical copy. I like looking at the game cover artwork.

Maybe, but at least they're doing something about it, even if it is nothing but a giant picture of them raising the white flag. At least they released that they overstepped big time on DRM and are reeling it in. Could they re-institute it later on? Of course. It's no different than EA being able to re-institute online passes sometime down the road. Will they though? I doubt it. The public backlash and fury that would follow if they just one day decided to slam it all back on probably really would bury the Xbox One and MS. Because of that, I doubt they'll consider DRM on a console again until the next next-gen consoles (and only after Sony has revealed what they plan to do).

I think by the time it's ready for the next next-gen consoles, we'll be on a solely digital platform.

I definitely wouldn't be surprised there. It'll be somewhere after 2020 when the next consoles come out, by that time, I have a feeling a lot will have changed. I sort of wondered, before all the details for both came out, if they would both go all digital THIS upcoming gen. Next time around, I would almost be expecting them to go straight digital on everything.

I've been saying this for 2 or 3 years now. This upcoming generation will be the last with physical media. After this generation, it'll be all digital, meaning you wont be able to trade in your games anyway. That's exactly why I never understood all the backlash anyway. It's going to happen.

Still doesn't change anything for me, except I might consider the XB1 sooner than originally planned, which was tax refund 2015.

I wouldn't be surprised either, but then what would happen to the retail aspect of the game section at department stores? I think there's always gonna be some sort retail presence.
