No, just stating the obvious that everyone is overlooking. How are people going to rent games if publishers decide to require a game pass code to be entered? Just because Sony doesn't incorporate their own thing doesn't mean a thing. Why would EA block used games on Xbox (if they do) and not block them on PS4? They could very easily eliminate used games by simply requiring a code to be entered before being allowed to be played. I've been saying this for weeks.
Whether or not they do that is up to them, but we wont know for sure until they announce what they're plans are.
Somewhat related to E3: Next week is "Video Game Week" on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. I would expect Xbox One & PlayStation 4 to make appearances, among some other high-profile games.
I've posted a quote about 5 times now of Sony saying "we won't require it, it will be up to the publishers." That never changed. I'm not saying they will do it (I do, however, think they will), but they have full power to require a code to be entered before a game can be played (or something similar).
Just like how Sony said you wont need to be connected to the internet to play games. Not necessarily true, as that's also up to the publisher as evidenced by The Crew requiring a constant connection.
Why produce a joke video about how to do used games on PS4 if it is left up to the publisher? Online passes may still exist, but no DRM = no DRM

The dude abides.
Because Sony itself isn't doing it? It would be the publisher. It wont be an online pass either. They tried those and that didn't work, hence why EA abolished those. If anything, they'll be a code that blocks the whole game if not entered, or it'll require a constant connection to a 3rd party verification system like Origin or UPlay.
I personally think its between JB's NO DRM and IOU's everything is going to be DRM anyway. I think if a publisher makes a game that is online only (i.e. an MMO) obviously DRM could come into play.
EA I suppose could take "connected dynasty/franchise" and say well its online only now and thus make it DRM to play Madden/NCAA but boy Sony really slapped down MS and publishers tonight with this stance.
Sony did really all anyone could ask for a hardware manufacturer to do stand up for its customer when its #1 competitor would not and used that fact against it to apparently get a ton of new exclusives with that $
This seems pretty clear cut to me....
Sony intended on doing the opposite of XBOX, so why say this, and then say well.....you might have to pay for it.
Well kiddies I am off to bed. I think I posted most of the stuff I saw today that looked pretty interesting (but I missed most of MS' conference) so I probably missed a few vids/titles worth noting.
As a Sony "fan boy" I'm elated. I had all but resigned myself to the "IOU" argument but I believe "my" argument has apparently carried the day. Sony appears to have bet the house on this no DRM thing as well as a lower price point. It looks like we are going to see which "model" wins. I just hope PS4 comes out and crushes XBoxOne and it joins the likes of DreamCast.
This was from February but I have not seen where they have said anything different.
Sony's game studios chief, Shuhei Yoshida, told reporters that any requirement for users to register a game online in order to play it would be left to game publishers. Sony won't require that." (Emphasis added.)
Unless every single publisher in the world blocks used games, then you would be able to trade in certain games. Besides, why would Sony come out and say "we're letting it up to the publishers, so you MIGHT be able to play used games." They designed their system to allow the use of used games, so that's what they're saying. If publishers want to use a system that eliminates used games, why should Sony take bad publicity? With Sony's stance on it, if publishers do it, publishers get all the bad publicity.
I'll post this one more time:
If publishers want to block used games, they 100% absolutely can.UPDATE: More relief... At a roundtable this morning, Sony's game studios chief, Shuhei Yoshida, told reporters that any requirement for users to register a game online in order to play it would be left to game publishers. Sony won't require that.
Just to be clear, since I pre ordered, I am guaranteed a PS4 when it comes out? Right?
