Legally, it probably wouldn't be called bribery, but on the basic level, it's essentially what it is.

Either way, as I OU stated, it ultimately comes down to the publishers accepting the money or not. If they do, they are at a minimum at least equally as guilty as MS in the whole deal, if not more because they actually accepted the money, whereas for MS, it very well could just be business as usual and something they do regularly in all areas that they operate.

I give up If words mean anything it is either a bribe or it is not. I can call myself "The King of Siam", that does not mean it is so. If true, I think it can be called dirty business. Then I would say they are trying to "control" instead of bribe. The publishers can agree or acquiesce in this and play ball and also be dirty. And no I don't think if you want someone to give you something in return for beer/$$ it is a bribe, more like a transaction or barter. Unless this person you are offering beer/$$ is an official or someone that has a public or legal responsibility that you are trying to garner favor with, then we have a bribe. I guess my point and forgive me I don't communicate in this medium very well but whether we speak legally about a definition or not does not change the definition of a term. It is by definition a legal term.

Yeah, I didn't really word it the greatest, in regards to how I was trying to describe it. Either way, while it may be "dirty business", it's business as usual for MS, Sony and about every other major company in the entire world. It goes on every single day, we just choose not to notice it or acknowledge it. But I still stand by the previous statement in that while it may be dirty business for MS and/or Sony to make the offer, I personally believe it's at least equally as dirty, if not more dirty, for the publishers to accept it.

It will if they announce a price. If they don't announce a price, then it wont go up.

The PS4 should be $50 cheaper (or more) without Kinect included.

A rumor posted on Games Industry International suggests that Sony may be taking a three-pronged approach, going with three separate SKUs that will cost as little as $399 and as much as $599.

    Courtesy: IGN

    GI article:

Microsoft today announced a hefty price tag for its Xbox One console launching this November: $499. Sony, however, may be going higher than that, as GamesIndustry International has learned from a source close to the company that PS4 may launch with three versions, the highest being priced at $599.

The details are expected to be clarified at Sony's own E3 press conference this evening; it's currently unclear what the main differences will be among the PS4 SKUs, but our source said that Sony's looking to push 4K resolution technology as a "stepping stone" to glasses free 3D.

While cheaper versions of the PS4 (possibly as low as $399) will make a purchase much more palatable to the average consumer this holiday season, it's somewhat surprising that Microsoft and Sony are pushing hardware at such high price points. The PS3's launch at $599 back in 2006 was a very sore spot for the company, and console manufacturers are facing increasing pressure from other platforms, including tablets, smartphones and the PC itself with services like Steam. $499 and $599 will be hard to swallow for many.

I won't be buying a console at these prices. I waited last time and I will this time as well. Maybe two years from now I'll be on board. $499 is not happening and neither is $399. I could justify dropping over $400 on the PS3 when I finally got one but it was also a Blu Ray player. The PS2 was a DVD player. While Sony and MS are touting these machines as entertainment machines they actually offer less value to me in my current setup compared to the last two PS machines. The PS4 will be a gaming machine and I won't spend over $299 on it unless the games absolutely blow me away (and my wife doesn't shoot me) which I'm very skeptical of.

I don't disagree I think $500 is really pushing it as the economy hasn't really come back and even in the "boom" 2006 economy people balked at $600 for PS3. It will be interesting to see if the 3 Skus are correct and what the differences are in them.

I think people forget how long it takes to build up a console userbase. I remember reading how Tomb Raider execs were disappointed in only selling 3-4 million at launch. It will take a LOT longer for any PS4/XBone game to sell that many.

Call of Duty will hit that number and then some on both PS4 and Xbox One. Tomb Raider was a 3rd person action game released at the tail end of the console cycle that has dragged on for what seemed like ages. Expecting anything more than what they sold was a joke.

Yeah had TR been a launch XB1 PS4 title they probably would have done a TON better. Although the user base will definitely be smaller people are just going to buy up allot of the new games just so they have some for their $500 console.

So used games are allowed but you need PS Plus to play online now. Love the used games still. Don't care about online either way.

Disappointed no UC4 news. Curious about the price still.

PS4 $399! $100 less than XBox and used games. That will be a huge draw for Sony.

And no DRM and a direct shot at everything MS is doing.
