I do not mind mandatory installs, I install all my games to the HD. Plus you stick the game in and it installs while you play. The troubling part is the whole Always on Always connected stuff. If I can't play games because my internet is down or XBL is down... The PS4 is starting to look a lot better.

Yep if Sony stays away from this that's a big check mark for the PS4 over the 720.

They're going to have to do a lot more than that. They fucked themselves over in North America with the PS3(and are currently doing an even bigger screw job with the Vita). I firmly believe it's going to take a lot more than the Next Xbox requiring a constant internet connection to take that demographic back. Now I think if the Next Xbox didn't work with used games, that could potentially be a difference maker, but simply requiring an online connection when online gaming is so popular nowadays? They proved with the PS2 as well as Microsoft proving with the 360, that first out the door wins the race. Well the article indicates that the disc is simply to install the game onto your system thus making used games impossible and the online connection checks to make sure your legit. So it's always online (hurts rural america with crappy internet) and its no used games (hurts gamestop, gamefly and people that like to buy/rent used games). Those are two pretty bitter pills to swallow if PS4 beats 720 to launch (50/50 in my mind) it could easily turn people off and the war could be over before it even starts. Also if/when hackers decide they want to take down Live that's going to piss off a ton of people that their $400 - $500 console is just a box of crap for days. At least when PSN went down you could still play most games.
Yeah Americans want the first thing in the market even if it is a POS (rings of death didn't seem to hurt MS at all). Sony needs to be first. Hell even a week earlier could be huge due to the "I must have the latest/greatest" mentality in this country.
If some of these things are true, it might be like I did with the 360, waited a couple years. I'm still pretty sure I'm going to get the PS4 as close to launch as possible.
Even if Microsoft eliminated used games and required an online connection, I still believe they would win the US.
For me personally, I'll be waiting until the next Xbox is revealed and I'll go from there. I wasn't impressed at all by Sony's "unveiling"(except for Killzone, and let's be honest, it's known for looking beautiful and then having awful game play) and considering these consoles are going to be virtually identical specs wise, I'm going with the one that has the best user interface and the best online feature implementation.
I'd call it now: Microsoft wins the US handily, Sony dominates Japan, and then Sony barely edges out Microsoft in Europe. Basically a repeat of this gen, unless of course, one of them makes a massively stupid decision on something.
They just better not make it a must online connection. Just dumb. I don't care to much about the old games I'll keep my 360 until it dies. I just hope we can cross platform like playing call of duty on save servers but diferen't systems etc.

I'm pretty sure I will be sitting on the sidelines for at least a year or two on the new systems. I went through five red rings of death the first six months after I bought a 360 on launch day. I was at the point of saying screw it and wait on the PS3 to be released.
