wow looks like we are going to have a "shitty" cover athlete this year. No 1st round picks revealed thus far from the HUGE 2 leading candidates.

Ohio State's John Simon joins the cover candidates.

Sorry guys. I gotta go with Alabama. I was an assistant athletic trainer at Eddie Lacy's high school his Jr. and Sr. years (LSU's Eric Reid was there too) so I REALLY hope he wins.
Georgia's Jarvis Jones is the latest cover candidate to be revealed:

By looking at that I am guessing it is
FSU- EJ Manuel(looks like a throwing motion)
ORE- Dion Jordan. I am not sure I want to say Kenjon Barner
T AM-Luke Joeckel. It is either him or Moore(DE)
ND- Eifert. Looks like someone catching a ball.
I would like to see D-Rob get it. Not a Bama hater, but I dont want to see them get the cover again(so soon). Out of the candidates they have, D-Rob is the most known out of the rest of the guys. He has the career rushing record for QBs and is a playmaker.
Outside of D-Rob and Lacey, none of the other candidates are really cover-worthy. They could have done better, but there really isnt that many cover-worthy players in this year's draft like in other years. At least with D-Rob, he has a recognizable name in the college world
EA should b/c the crap like that matters to the casual consumer. It's a much easier PR/sell to have a "star" on the cover over some BUM who wasn't even a decent college QB and has ZERO shot of being one in the future. I don't care who is on the cover (so long as my $ isn't going to EA so they can pay a Dog Killer, Rapist, Pedophile etc...). but if there is a vote on the cover athlete (there is) and we are discussing it here on a message board dedicated to this series (we are) I just thought it was interesting that the likely candidates wouldn't be 1st round picks. I noted previously there are only 3 current exceptions to either (1) you won the Heisman and/or (2) you were a 1st round pick in the draft with 20 different cover athletes on the "main" games since 97.
Take it for what its worth but IMHO its a DUMB move on EA's part b/c Denard isn't nearly as marketable as: Moore or Jones.
How much money do you want to bet that more casual college football fans (in turn people who are more likely to play NCAA) know who Denard Robinson is than know who Jarvis Jones or DaMontre Moore are. I wouldn't immediately know who Moore was if I didn't play with A&M in the Powerhouse OD, and I am an A&M fan. Von Miller was more widely known than Moore. Robinson would've had a better and more notable senior season if he didn't get hurt and forced to just run the ball the final few games. Robinson would be the perfect pick for EA as a cover athlete. He's someone that is a game changer and millions of people probably tried playing w/ Michigan just because he was the fastest qb in the game.
Back to the point about winning the Heisman, many Heisman winners were not successful in the NFL, and Tebow wouldn't have been drafted in the 1st round if it wasn't for Josh McDaniels smoking crack.
I called it (Robinson and Barner) #playmakers
For the sake of discussion, lets say this thing wasn't rigged and a team like Army or Navy or Kentucky had won or broke through. I don't think any of those teams has a marketable star. What would EA have done then?
Kentucky is tough but IMHO they could have gone with Bear Bryant and pumped some sort of changes to the Coaching Carousel. Army/Navy actually have a pretty rich tradition in college football. Most the kids may not realize it but the academies were pretty big "powers" in college football early-mid last century. Army has 3 titles I believe and Navy has 1 as well. If Navy/Army won they could have sold "rivalry" with a joint cover with Army/Navy and perhaps some PR with a portion of the sales during the first week going to wounded warriors or some other military charity.
wow what is EA's philosophy this time avoid ALL of the 1st round talent from each team at all costs? 5 of the top 6 players in this draft (according to Kiper's big board) are from the schools above and only ONE of them is a potential cover athlete. Well if I had a facebook account my vote would be for Jones but I don't and seeing as Jones has virtually zero shot of moving on to the next round I don't think I'll sign up for one to participate.
