I could definitely live with $350. It's a hell of a lot better than the $500, $600+ that there being rumored off and on over the past years. $350 is pretty well in line with what the upper end consoles (250GB on 360, etc) costs now.
They'll both have their own conferences before E3. I'll personally be holding off until I see some games. I am less than thrilled with Microsoft's recent obsession with the casual crowd. They have what...one exclusive this year? I realize they're revealing new hardware, but when your competition has a God of War game coming out and perhaps the freshest looking game in a LONG time(The Last of Us), one exclusive doesn't really cut it.
On the other hand, I've been massively disappointed with Sony this generation. They had their heads up their asses for the vast majority of it and have tried to Call of Duty a bunch of their key franchises instead of giving fans what they want(ahem: SOCOM 4, Killzone 3, Resistance 2&3, etc...). Top that off with their horrific online service and you have a recipe for disaster. The absolutely ONLY thing that saved them was their reputation and their first party studios. If it weren't for Naughty Dog, Guerrilla Games, and Sony Santa Monica, I would've ditched Sony a long time ago. They better have a huge emphasis on online services, focus on the core gamer, and launch before or around the same time as Microsoft unless they want to continue bleeding money.
Look the games this year after say May are virtually NONEXISTENT on both consoles. It looks like all of the "major" titles (non-sports) are going to be released in the 1st half of this year. After that I imagine there will be a significant lull while everyone is working on the next next-gen.
Basically NOONE knows.

They're still hemorrhaging money. Their TV/computers/other electronic products suck for the most part. They've been making a profit off the PS3 for 2 or 3 years now, but it's not going to be enough to cover what they've lost in their other departments. I'm not even going to mention the Vita. It kills me to think I forked over $500+ for games and a system that more than likely isn't even going to be supported after this year because of how terrible the sales have been.
They're just lucky they've had so much overseas success. The 360 has pretty well dominated the PS3 in America, which I'm actually looking to change with the next generation of consoles IF Sony is smart about pricing and they release their console before or around the same time as Microsoft. Microsoft has been, and I think will continue, investing heavily in the casual market. That's fine and dandy, but if you look at sales numbers of games like Uncharted, Gears of War, Call of Duty, Halo, etc...it's pretty clear the kind of games people want. I trust Sony a whole hell of a lot more to continue developing core games than I do Microsoft.
Sony screwed themselves the second they released a console a year later than their competition and then smacked it with a $600 price tag.
Anyway, it may not be horrific now, but all in all this generation, I'd definitely label it horrific. No access to messages or anything while playing a game for the first 18 months of the console's life. After it was added, it was slow to load in game...still is. No cross game chat. No party system. No cross game invites. Half the games don't support invites through the XMB at all. New store looks nice but is extremely slow. Got hacked. Downloads are slower than those on Live, and then I have to sit there and watch the stupid thing install(I hate this more than anything else PS3 related). Some of the game patches are just enormous where as there's a strict limit on Live(4MB, I believe).
Don't get me wrong, it's way better than it was. Plus is nice, but it's more or less just games rather than features. I'd much rather pay $50 a year for access to a party system and cross game chat than "free" games. But, they've been coming around slowly. The Vita has some of those features that I mentioned, although the party system is kind of half assed, so it's at least encouraging to see Sony realize where their priorities should be - online features and exclusive AAA games.
That's why I never buy anything other than the main Xbox/PS systems, because god only know if those side systems will even sell and how long they'll get any support and plus it's extra cash you gotta fork over on top of the main console. Then the issues that the 360 experienced early on and stuff, that's why I never buy the new systems for at least a year after they come out. I wait a year or two, let newer or improved versions of the system come out, maybe see a price drop in there somewhere, and then jump to the new console. It was 2008 or 2009 before I even got a 360, sticking with the regular old Xbox and my PS2. It'll be the same here with the new consoles. It will be at least one or two years before I'll even consider upgrading from the 360. As long as they still put out games for the 360, I'll be fine with it still for the next couple years.
First, "Ah, you meant Sony, not just the PS3. Got it."
Second, I still wouldn't call that horrific. Worse than XBL, sure. But nothing you listed personally bothers me. I guess that's why I think horrific was an overstatement. But it does make more sense now.

WTF
Our insurance company uses encryption software to not allow you to transfer files to an external. You're saying they don't have that stuff?
I guess I should say it's horrific for me. I buy most of my multiplatform games on the 360 just so I don't have to deal with the long updates and the lack of a party system. On the flip side, I much prefer the XMB to whatever you call the Xbox interface. I can't stand it to begin with, and it really bugs me when I boot it up and see ads on a service I'm paying $60 a year for.
Well, I knew you were saying "for me"I guess I would just use "horrific" if it was a buggy, laggy, PoS system that made online play impossible. Like, feels-like-dial-up style (kind of like some games I've played, actually). For the online play itself, I find PSN and XBL to both be very servicable.
