what it tells you is I knew it would bug you so I went that direction. I don't need to laugh it off.

bashing womens sports tells you what? it tells you I bashed womens sports. Are there a lot of lesbians in womens sports? yes there are.
I could care less as most of the nation could care less about womens sports. I damn well wont be interested when most of them don't even define themselves as straight women. None of that remotely makes be a bigot or anything I need to apologize for or laugh off.

of course I made A dykes vs lesbo's joke lol it obviously fished you out as expected.

Outside of the 32 NFL teams, the highest average attendance of any team in any sport in the US and Canada is the Seattle Sounders who average 44k per match.

Who gives a shit that there are more games in a hockey season? It's completely irrelevant.

And I never said women's sports were relevant. They're not (though I notice you watched the WWC).

And 2 countries, dumbass, is because some of those leagues (NHL, NBA, MLS) have teams in the US and Canada. They're averages, not totals. Adding Canada is not anything substantial. It's a level playing field but you lack the brain power to understand it.

Women's Tennis is not relevant? Women's Figure Staking is one of the most popular Olympic event. Women's College basketball is pretty popular. To call Women's sports irrelevant is pretty short sided.

So if they were all straight you would be more interested?

The English Premier League, UEFA Champions League, English FA Cup, Community Shield and League Cup, UEFA Europa League, La Liga, FIFA Club World Cup and German Bundesliga all have lucrative American television deals (EPL deal is ridiculously big). You can also watch the CONCACAF Champions League, Gold Cup, US Open Cup, some French, Scottish and Australian matches as well as MLS and Liga MX. Not to mention international competitions like the World Cup, Euro Championship, Copa America, Confederations Cup etc.

I read an article last Summer that pointed out that Americans are now conditioned properly for World Football on TV. The popularity of Netflix and the like, along with DVRs, are making Americans sour to commercials.

With (proper) Football you only get commercials at halftime. I can tell you from experience that watching a 90-minute match in less than 2 hours is much more satisfying than watching a 60-minute NFL game that takes 3.5 hours (with only about 12 minutes of action). The commercial breaks in American sports are absolutely killing the joy of watching them for me now days. World Football made me that way.

In addition, my daughter (who starts high school in the Fall) wears her Chelsea hoodie to school every day. She has lots of friends at school who support Chelsea and Manchester United and other clubs and talks about them (and their debates) all the time. It is nothing like when I was in school (graduated in 1992). Back then, I NEVER saw anyone wearing any club gear at all.

I'm not saying that Football is going to replace American Football or baseball here in the States any time soon but it will eventually (it may not be until my daughter has grandchildren).
It's not there yet in terms of popularity, but rugby is growing as well, and it's place in pop culture is all but guaranteed to grow with the inclusion of Rugby Sevens in the Olympics. I personally see the popularity of both football (soccer) and rugby as closely tied. As one grows, the other will. Maybe to not the same degree, but still in the same direction.

Short sided? What does that mean?

    Perhaps you meant short-sighted?

Anyway, I should have been more clear in my remark. To me, women's sports are not relevant.

  8. #6408
Well that was very shortsighted of me.

I'm surprised you just heard about it. It became a big story making the rounds on social media and online a good while back. He's done a ton for the FDNY. Even got arrested for protesting with firefighters over the planned closure of firehouses in NYC.

America, fathering, mothering are deemed "problematic."

    http://www.unh.edu/inclusive/bias-free-language-guide

Some of these are just... The old people have reclaimed old people, so it may or may not be suitable depending on the old person you are talking to. Look everyone it is a person of advanced age.

Preferred: people of advanced age, old people*
Problematic/Outdated: older people, elders, seniors, senior citizen
*Old people has been reclaimed by some older activists who believe the standard wording of old people lacks the stigma of the term “advanced age”. Old people also halts the euphemizing of age. Euphemizing automatically positions age as a negative.

    Preferred: First-year students
    Problematic/Outdated: freshmen

    Preferred: Other Sex
    Problematic/Outdated: Opposite Sex

    Preferred: people of size
    Problematic/Outdated: obese*, overweight people
“Obese” is the medicalization of size, and “overweight” is arbitrary; for example, standards differ from one culture to another.
Note: “Fat”, a historically derogatory term, is increasingly being reclaimed by people of size and their allies, yet for some, it is a term that comes from pain.

    Preferred: person-experiencing homelessness
Problematic/Outdated: the homeless, which reduces the person to being defined by their housing rather than as a person first - one who does not have a home

    My favorite

Preferred: U.S. citizen or Resident of the U.S.
    Problematic: American
Note: North Americans often use “American” which usually, depending on the context, fails to recognize South America

Preferred: North American or South American
Problematic: American: assumes the U.S. is the only country inside these two continents.

    and then

    Preferred: Black or African American
Problematic: negro, negroid, colored person, dark

So the use of American is somehow okay here? it does not properly define what America they are referring to? There are plenty of blacks living on South and North America.

    Preferred: White people, European-American individuals
    Problematic: Caucasian people

    Preferred: international people
    Problematic: foreigners

At this point I could not go on.
