Looking through the Bowl Rundown, I'm taking on UTEP. We have a battle of Florida between South Florida and Florida in the BBVA Compass Bowl. Mississippi State got screwed over as 10-2 TCU jumps them for the title game, giving the Horned Frogs the chance to attempt to repeat as champions. And the list of teams who got screwed out of a bowl game:

    Arkansas State - 7-5 (5-3)
    Louisiana Tech - 7-5 (3-1)
    Clemson - 6-6 (4-5)
    Colorado - 6-6 (5-5)
    Utah State (6-6 (1-3)
    USC - 6-7 (5-5)

Unfortunately, not good. But tomorrow is a new day and age, literally, as I begin NCAA '13 (at some point tomorrow), so the Sun Devils will get to hit the reset button for a couple years.

You guys almost played my Golden Panthers. As of week 12 or 13, the bowl projections were showing a Southern Miss-Florida International showdown in the New Orleans Bowl. Sadly, it was not meant to be. While I'm up at work right now, I did sim every single game except mine, and Ohio State-TCU's national title showdown, before I left. Some interesting results in the bowls this year.

    R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl

    Game Notes

--- This was it, everything we had worked for, a bowl game matchup in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl with UTEP. The Miners enter the game 7-5 on the year, coming out of Conference USA. UTEP won the coin toss and elected to kick.

We began the game on our 20 yard line after the kickoff went out of the back of the end zone for a touchback. Getting a feel for the Miners defense, Storm Johnson took the ball up the gut on first down, gaining five yards. Johnson came out of the game after the play, causing some scare along the sidelines and in the crowd, but it determined to just be a strained forearm and Johnson was good to go after taking a play off. During that play out, Darrian Mallary took full advantage of the playing time, taking an off-tackle pitch and barreling forward for an 18 yard gain. Johnson came back in the following play, picked up five yards to set up second and five on the 48 yard line. Johnson was able to pick up six yards, giving us first down at the UTEP 46 yard line. Taking advantage of a cheating defense, Jake Medlock threw a deep pass down the right sideline, being hauled in by Wayne Times before being simultaneously pushed out of bounds, a 45 yard pass giving us first and goal at the one yard line. Johnson wasted little time as he took the ball in on the ground the very next play, scoring the one yard touchdown to give us a 7-0 lead with 2:15 left in the first quarter.

Despite picking up an early first down by way of a four yard rush and 9 yard pass, two incomplete passes and UTEP’s QB, Carson Meger, being tackled for a three yard loss left the Miners punting on fourth and 13 from their 29 yard line. Taking over on our 27 yard line, we went right back to work on the ground game, forcing the Miners to stop us on the ground if they wanted to stop our offense. Johnson got things started with a pair of four yard runs, before just barely getting the first down, being stood up at the line for a two yard gain and the first. On first down at the 38 yard line, Johnson was able to break a tackle and spin loose from the desperation ankle grab, fighting forward for a five yard gain before going down, giving us second and five at the 42 yard line. Johnson would have a tough time getting yards on the next play, only managing two yards before hitting the turf, leaving us with third and three on the 44, where the clock would run out on the first quarter, a 7-0 lead still standing.

Opening up the second quarter, we returned the air, as Medlock was able to hit Johnson, who was immediately hit and tackled at the first down marker, for a four yard gain and another first down. Johnson kept the pain train rolling, with a 15 yard rush on a sweep right, strong arming out of two tackles, juking away from a third, before finally being brought down at the 37 yard line. Continuing with more of the same, Johnson was able to pick up five yards off the left tackle, before a misdirection play netted 10 yards by Johnson, giving us first down at the 22 yard line. Two more runs by Johnson, both for 8 yards each, and we have first and goal at the UTEP 7 yard line. Johnson would need just one more play, driving up the middle before making the final dive for the goal line, scoring the 7 yard touchdown rush to give us a 14-0 lead with 1:15 left in the first half. The Miners would continue to experience no joy on offense, as two more incomplete passes and a two yard rush by Meger left UTEP punting on fourth and 8 from their 37 yard line.

We took over possession on our 19 yard line with 41 seconds left. After an incomplete pass on first down, Medlock was able to hit Dominique Rhymes for a 23 yard gain, followed by a pass to Willis Wright for 15 yards, getting us down to the UTEP 44 yard line. A 23 yard strike to Rhymes gave us another first down at the UTEP 21 with 18 seconds left to play when we called our second timeout. Johnson came through with a 12 yard pass to set up first and goal from the 9 yard line with 12 seconds left when we called our third and final timeout. After an incomplete pass left us with 8 seconds left, Medlock hit Johnson for a 6 yard gain, but Johnson was tackled at the 3 yard line and the final seconds ticked off the clock, bring us to halftime, a 14-0 lead over the Miners.

Start of the third quarter, the luck of the Miners got only worse, as the kickoff return was fumbled and recovered by our kickoff team, giving us possession at the 28 yard line. After an incomplete pass, a blitz all call by the UTEP defense left Wright wide open for a 22 yard gain, giving us first and goal at the six yard line. One play later, Johnson pounded the ball up the middle for the six yard touchdown run, his third of the day, go extend our lead to 21-0 with 3:28 left in the third quarter. The Miners offense started to find some life, gaining six yards on the ground from Josh Bell, but that was followed by sack for a loss of two yards by Meger. Meger recovered to hit Kevin Perry for a six yard pass and a first down at the 30 yard line. After Meger picked up four yards on the ground, two incomplete passes would bring the Miner punt team back onto the field. The Miners defense, tired from so much time on the field, was almost helpless against our running attack. Starting at the 31 yard line, Johnson broke off two runs of 17 and 11 yards, before Mallary tacked on another 11 yards. First down at the 31 yard line, Johnson broke loose for a 19 yard rush, giving us first down at the UTEP 12 yard line with 46 seconds left in the quarter. The Miners managed to finally stop Johnson, as he was only able to gain five yards before going down at the UTEP 7 yard line, bringing the third quarter to a close, our lead sitting at 21-0.

Start of the fourth quarter, Johnson wasted little time getting first and goal with a 6 yard rush to set us up at the one yard line. We would go backwards however as a false start penalty pushed us back to first and goal on the UTEP six yard line. After stopping Johnson short for only a two yard gain, Storm would plow through the UTEP defense on second and goal, scoring his fourth touchdown of the game on a four yard rush, making it 28-0 with 2:46 left to play in the game. Bell gave the Miners offense some life with a six yard rush, but an incomplete pass and a one yard gain by Meger would leave the Miners again punting on fourth and three. After the punt, we took over on our 32 yard line with 2:05 left on the clock, ready to run out the remaining minutes and celebrate a bowl victory. Mallary got us started with a 7 yard rush to leave us with second and three with 1:31 left to play. A three yard gain on second down came up just short, leaving us facing third and inches with 1:11 to play. Mallary sealed the victory when he rushed ahead for a five yard gain, picking up the first down at our 47 yard line with 43 seconds to play. It took only one kneel by backup quarterback Lorenzo Hammonds and it was party time in New Orleans, a 28-0 victory over the UTEP Miners.

With the win, we finish the season with a 10-3 record and end the year on an incredible 10 game win streak. With the loss, With the loss, UTEP drops to.

And there you have it. Despite TCU managing to get in at 10-2 over 12-1 Mississippi State, it doesn't matter in the end as Ohio State completes the perfect season at 14-0 with the 48-36 win in the national championship game.

A quick look at job security, and the coaching carousel will be active.

Larry Porter, HC at Memphis and Paul Wulff, HC at Washington State are both rock bottom at 0%. Iowa State HC Paul Rhoads is at 2%, Mid Tennessee State HC Rick Stockstill at 4%, and Arizona State's HC Dennis Erickson sitting at 6%. After that is Dana Holgorsen, West Virginia HC at 11%, Cal's HC Jeff Tedford at 15%, Florida's HC Will Muschamp at 18%, East Carolina's HC Ruffin McNeil at 19% and Missouri HC Gary Pinkel at 19%. After that, Clemson, BYU, Tulsa, Vanderbilt, and Kansas all sit in the 20s.

Motherfucker. Miami just fired Al Golden and hired Mario Cristobal as their new head coach. The FIU head coach spot is wide open and I can't take it (both because I'm heading for a new team in NCAA '13, and because I can't be a head coach yet per my job advancement rules. NCAA, you are a cruel bitch.

You must be majorly detail obsessed to have the patience to document all of the Coordinator moves.

Tulsa's a blast if you play with their default playbook.

Looking forward to following your '13 progress Smooth.
Yeah, that score shocked me. I know Ole Miss was pretty good this season, but I can't believe the Seminoles just rolled over like that.

And thanks for following! I appreciate it and hope you enjoy this.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. I actually thought I was going to Nevada to be their OC first, since I was listed as the top candidate on their list, so I had to scramble to find the thread here on the forum with all the team ratings and prestige for NCAA '13 so I could make sure I could even accept. Only to have those bastards not even offer the job to me.

So I made sure to grab Tulsa when they came around, both because they are a fun team, and because their ratings are nice in '13, while meeting the criteria in my job movement restrictions to accept and take the job. It was a smart move too, since besides Nevada and Tulsa, all the other jobs for OC at mid-major teams, none of them except for Northern Illinois were on the same level as Nevada and Tulsa. And Northern Illinois has already been bending the rest of the MAC over for a couple years now, so at least with Tulsa, I will have a challenge and fight to the top instead of going into NIU who is already on top.

I think I included all the Coordinator moves back after my first season, when the coaching carousel was short and quick, and so the OCD me feels the need to continue doing it or else it doesn't feel right. Unfortunately, the coaching carousel has grown exponentially with each new season.

And I'll have to check that out tomorrow. I've never played with Tulsa before, so I've never used their playbook. I'll probably still create a playbook at some point, but I'll check out Tulsa's as well. If anything, if I decide to use a custom playbook, maybe I'll use Tulsa as my base and just add onto what is already there.

NCAA, you are a cruel bitch.
You can't even be promoted from within? That seems like an unnecessary restriction. I can see going from FIU to FSU but I, personally, wouldn't limit an in-house promotion.
