In real life too, stars represent prestige, not talent. Notre Dame is a much more prestigious than Boise St, just look at their respective histories, fan bases, media coverage, and recruiting. ND wins every category. The only place BSU can compete is on the field.

their is no chance in hell they're gonna win the big ten. at most 8 wins overall.
The preseason top-25 is about voter perception, not talent on the field... OSU has Urban Meyer and they are OSU... hence the pollsters will vote for them until they lose enough games that it is obvious they suck.

Their prestige has taken a hit as result of many seasons of mediocrity, just like NE. IMO they are a 5 star.

While I don't agree with Phil and put them at #11, they will compete in the Big Ten

    1) ND has the second largest fan base in the nation (Texas resently passed them to be #1)

    2) Recruiting is a good judge of where players perceive the best schools are. Past 10 years of recruiting (based off of Rivals ratings) 2002: 24th, 2003: 12th, 2004: top 50, 2005: 40th, 2006: 8th, 2007: 8th, 2008: 2nd, 2009: 21st, 2010: 14th, 2011: 10th, 2012: 20th, 2013: 13th

    3) Preseason top 25 appearances since '02, this shows how they were perceived before the ball was ever snapped: 2002: 18 points, 2003: 18th, 2004: 25 points, 2005: 13 points, 2006: 3rd, 2007: 8th, 2008: 90 points, 2009: 23rd, 2010: 38 points, 2011: 18th... even when ND is bad they still get top 25 respect every year until they prove it is unwarranted.

To me, ND is the definition of a six star prestige school. Now to you they may have lost their luster, but they still command a lot of respect in the college football world.

All good points but in the end, consistency in the product on the field is what matters most to me. So again, IMO there are 2 requirements for that 6th star & ND only has 1.

I am not going to argue that they don't suck on the field, and there is no doubt that they don't carry the same respect as when leather helmets were used. But, IMO they are still 6-star, so agree to disagree. Thanks for being a good sport and not going to the "well you are an idiot" argument.

Ha absolutely. I have no problem with disagreeing. You make some solid points and I even reconsiderred my stance to be honest but in the end, I just feel the way I do.

Welcome to the site btw, I think you'll find that one of the things that sets this site apart from others is the level of respect others give your opinions, even if they disagree.

There is no such higher level of truth humanly possible than this statement.

Yes, and it has been for years. Just verified in NCAA 11. FSU has B+/A-/B ratings. Switched out their starting QB, HB, and WR and they dropped to B-/C+/B.
