Debating on release day for this. I need to talk to GameStop and see if they know if they're getting multiple covers or not.

Until then, pastapadre has done a good job of gathering game info from people who have early copies:

From these two videos (Association – Online) we can ascertain the following regarding NBA 2K12:

•Association mode looks to be largely unchanged at least as it relates to playing in the standard offline manner. We do know however that there will be Online Association for the first time ever which represents the big advancement this year. Users will be able to compete in the franchise against other users and/or CPU controlled teams. Outside of that the structure to how it will all work remains shrouded in mystery.

•The website nba2k.com will be launching (presumably next week coinciding with release) and will feature the ability to manage Online Associations – completing trades, managing rosters, and running drafts. The site will also house uploaded highlights, screenshots, and ‘My Player’ career mode progress/stats.

•There are no online leaderboards found within the game menus. Instead they will be located on the website.

•There are no online lobby rooms. Team-Up looks to be easier to organize however.

•There is still no ability to save playbooks for use online.

•’Crew’ mode online appears to have been removed. That would then suggest that the only way to play online w/ one’s My Player may be through the paid DLC that was discovered yesterday.
That all sounds really good to me, though not being able to make changes to playbooks kinda sucks (hopefully that's not the case, though the fluidity of the plays now makes that not as big of a deal as before).

I'm definitely gonna get this day one for the 360, so if people are actually gonna be interested in getting into an Online Association in it, count me in (unless it turns out to suck ass - REALLY hoping it doesn't).

Same. I don't really care about what cover I'd get, so it's going to come down to Online Association to decide whether I get it next week, or wait for a bit to get it.

Well Pasta said that copies are to be received Friday, but embargoed until release day. Not sure if that is good or bad for Online Association.

    Controls Trailer

I wouldn't put much stock in the embargo. 2K has been very late but deliberate in releasing game info. With no NBA season to stoke interest, they seem intent on hitting the release date with fresh game info (Online Association) and the reviews.

I just preordered NBA 2K12 on Amazon for 360. If I don't get the Bird cover and someone does...wanna trade?

    Latest tweet from Pastapadre:

NBA 2K12 online association: up to 29 other users (cpu controls any unfilled), season progresses in "real-time". That last part concerns me.
    And Facebook update:

According to the NBA 2K12 manual regarding online association: Form your own online NBA league with up to 29 other gamers, and make GM decisions from your computer or console. Make trades and schedule games online. Your season progresses in real-time; scheduled games are simulated when you can’t be present. Receive regular email updates that keep you connected to your team 24/7/365.

Very concerned about that real-time progression. With work and other stuff, I definitely don't have the time to be on playing basketball games every single night. And I'd be pissed to have the game automatically simulate the games that I don't have time to play and potentially get screwed out of wins by the simulation engine.

Well, I don't really have a problem with it. It's highly unlikely most people are gonna want to play more than 30-40 games in a season (that's QUITE a few games) so me choosing to have it simulate OOC (out of conference) and OOD (out of division) games isn't that big of a deal to me. OOC games aren't a big deal at all (they only make up like 15% of the total games played or something like that) and OOD games aren't necessarily horrible to miss, it's the division games that are HUGE for determining how your season really goes in the NBA since you play each team 8 times (which makes up 32 of your 81 games).

Even if you wanted to play 60+ games out of the season, you could do something like 2 games a week and just miss the occasional 3rd game for that week and make a special exception for that rare 4th game in the week (which averages out to be 10 or 11 weeks out of the whole season 29 week season).

What sucks about it is, going by that, it's basically going to be playing out that season (while hopefully being able to make trades and such to make your team better) and that's it. Granted, that's what most likely would happen anyway because of how many games you'd have to play before finishing the season and such, but it sucks that it's going to basically void any real reason for scouting prospects or the draft and it's basically going to make making trades very difficult to pull off because of the lack of draft picks coming into play at all (unless you do nothing but trade with the CPU). Kinda sucks really.

I'm definitely interested to read the entire developer's insight on the subject once the insight is released.

True. Didn't think of it that way. And yeah, looking forward to reading that. From the sounds it of, it should be coming out in an hour or so. Last I heard was around 4pm PST.

Looks good to me. Basically gives you 3-5 games a "week" to play and lets you choose what to play and what not to play as well as lets you customize the size of the league and how many games are in the season. Has the draft, free agency, takes into account the salary cap (though I'm interested to see if it has everything - like Bird Years and etc), and trades are very regulated through giving everyone a chance to dispute it via notifications in the game "homepage".

Sounds good to me. Now, the ultimate question is how good the online interaction system actually is as, apparently, that shit was so laggy, it was atrocious for the stupid My Player Crew crap. Hopefully it's better.

So how many 360 users have an interest in an Online Association now that we have news on the feature? I'm willing to give it a try, provided I can connect to online users as mors stated.

My concern with the OA set-up (if I understand it correctly) is that struggling users with talented teams may seem more likely to simulate games feeling they can get easy wins that way. I suppose the way to rectify that issue is for the league commish to boot non-active members.

This will be the first time in a very long time I won't be buying a NBA 2K Basketball game on release day. Having the Legends in the game is great but with no updated rosters because of the NBA strike, I will pass until the strike is settled.

We can set up a subforum below in the "other" section where we have NHL.

Yeah that works. At least we won't have to worry about that with this group.

I can not freakin' wait for Tuesday to get my hands on this game. I am worried about 2K's servers b/c they have been atrocious for years now and with OA I am sure there will be even more people than normal trying it out. But I wll most definately be interested in joining the OA.

Looks like IGN got the exclusive early review.
