    Background
    In 2010, the University of Nebraska at Kearney and Omaha decided to combine schools and move up to D-I to from Nebraska Tech. Nebraska Tech joined the Big Ten with Nebraska when Indiana left the conference for the Big XII, and Northwestern was moved out to the MAC to also make room. This gives Lincoln, Nebraska two D-I schools; but with being in the same conference, they would easily be able to co-exist and form a natural rivalry.
