The way I usually do it on mine is to setup a PSN chat... you can minimize it as you recruit and then come back when you're ready. As well, if anyone else uses their headset, you should be able to communicate as long as you're in the OD itself (though this has worked off & on this year).
Didn't even realize you could do a group chat on PSN.
