That was the first thing we tried... that did nothing unfortunately. Still get FAILED when I try to do anything which pretty much sums up EA's game at this point... GAME FAILED!!!

Keyser, what point is it failing on? Is it always (or regularly) the same point in the transfer? That sounds a little bit like the problem PS3 ODs had last year for a week or so, but only certain dynasties were affected. It was, unfortunately, a server side problem.
