Yeah, with all the reversals, the differences are disappearing quickly. The only thing preventing them from matching Sony is price is the fact they would probably lose money on their console at $399, where as Sony would be making money on theirs right off the bat. However, Microsoft has a lot more operating income than Sony, so they might be willing to take a loss just to be in a better position to compete with Sony for customers.

I don't know, though, but I know this conference is going to be fun as hell. Sony is focusing on PS4 and Vita with new games, Microsoft has new games and there's all kinds of rumors swirling around both of them. I can't wait.

Probably not right off the bat, they just won't be in the same situation as the PS3.

Eurogamer cites Sony CFO Masaru Kato as saying the company is not planning a 'major loss' for the PS4. Kato elaborated that the development of the PS3 required a lot of investments in R&D. The fact that the PS4 incorporates existing technology means less of an in-house investment this time around.

Ah, thanks for the info. I thought I had read that they were not selling it at a loss, but when I searched for it, I found your quote and a journalist assuming it would be sold at a profit, so I guess that's where I got that from.

I wonder what Microsoft is making/losing when selling at $500. I know the developer who did a AMA on Reddit said that without Kinect, the console would be "way less than $399," so if that's accurate, you almost have to assume the Kinect is almost as much as the console itself. You'd think Microsoft would see the opportunity to lose the Kinect, sell the console at $300 or $350 and undercut Sony.

Xbox One Reputation System Has Cheats and Jerks in its Sights

“If you don’t want to play with cheats or jerks, you shouldn’t have to.”

This sounds all well and good but I just don't know how good the system will be since "cheat" / "jerk" are subjective terms and MS will be relying on user feedback which I suspect won't be all that reliable.

System will never work. They have feedback currently on Xbox Live, and I'm currently sitting at 75% bad feedback. I play sim in the football games I play online, never quit any games, and I'm never running my mouth. Basically, people get mad at losing or getting killed by you and give you bad feedback. I don't see why that would change on Xbox One, so I don't see how it would work any differently.

See above. People will just give - Rep every time they lose so I can easily see a world were nearly all XB1ers are red with the exception of guys who only play true friends or really game the system with cliques, multiple accounts, etc...

Gaming wise it's stupid. The only benefits I see are things like voice control to navigate menus, Skype, redeeming codes without having to type junk in, and the whole jazz of recognizing which user is holding the controller and adjusting the settings accordingly. Gaming wise, Microsoft and Sony both can shove their motion control garbage up their ass. I hate it, I've always hated it, and I will continue to always hate it. As I said around the time Move and Kinect released, the day I have to use something stupid like that to control a game is the day I find a new hobby.

IF Specs are "meaningless" why do this:

Microsoft Confirms Xbox One GPU Boost

Clock speed increased from 800 MHz to 853.

Do what? They didn't add anything or change components. The boost was done by optimizing the GPU and the drivers for the chip. Regardless, the boost is minuscule at best and wont have some profound impact on the game performance.

That brings it up to 1.84 Teraflops for the PS4 versus around 1.3 Teraflops for the One now, which means the PS4 is still around 40% more powerful theoretically.

Like I said before, this is going to be a carbon copy of this generation. Games on both consoles will look virtually identical, while Sony's exclusives will look a bit better than anything else (but there wont be some profound difference there, either).

I think Mors said it, but we've reached a point where graphics look about as good as they can. This upcoming generation is going to stick to that, but it's going to be more known for more shit on the screen, no loading screens, and better effects.

It's a driver. Ever have your graphics chip get an update on your PC? That's a driver update. It's not changed in the sense of "we ripped this component out and swapped it with another," it's simply being updated and optimized for better performance, which is why they were able to get the extra 6% of performance for the chip. All the components are the same as they were before.

I'm not going back and forth. He's just misinformed so I have to correct him.

More people are picking up on the "rumor" of a price drop pre-launch:
