So, now the question remains, what does Sony plan to do and whether or not they follow suit. If they don't, that could mean them winning the next gen war. I mean, not being able to borrow a friend's copy of a game is utter bullshit. Talk about some fucked up shit.

How DARE you bash Xbox you must be some damn Sony fanboy like that CLW guy. Oh wait....

Yeah you cannot rent games either.

It will be interesting to see IOU thinks Sony should do the same thing. Me, I think Sony should cut MS' [censored] head off and do NONE of it and do an online ad campaign making fun of MS for all this and win the console war in convincing fashion.

No kidding. If Sony has half a brain in their heads.....

Plus, no internet connection = no XB1. Must connect once every 24 hours to even play offline.

Sony has been handed a gift on a silver platter. What do they do with it?

Yeah IOU or I'm going to be 100% right on this. Either Sony is in the tank too and being coy about it (IOU wins) or Sony is laying low waiting for this bad announcement by MS and is just going to CRUSH them at E3 saying none of that crap applies on PS4. #DONTDealWithIt.

Going to be an interesting week for sure. I hope I'm right but IGN editors think IOU is right.

They're both going to do it or something similar. Sony's and Microsoft's #1 goal is to please the publisher. If the publishers aren't happy, Microsoft and Sony do not make money. Plain and simple. Most publishers don't want used games to exist for the simple fact that they do not generate any revenue. I've heard the argument, "oh, but I know people who bought used games, like it, and then bought the sequel new." I personally think it's a joke of an argument and that situation represents so little of the gaming population that I don't think publishers care, either.

I think Microsoft has been planning this for quite awhile and Sony has been playing both sides. I personally believe that's exactly why Microsoft has the exclusive deal now with EA when this entire current generation it's always been Sony that EA was making deals with. I think that's exactly why Titanfall is a Xbox exclusive, I think that's why Mirror's Edge 2 is rumored to be a Xbox exclusive, and I think that's why all these EA deals are being made with Microsoft. Microsoft was willing to 100% commit to eliminating current used games practices and Sony was not.

This is EXACTLY what's going to happen if Sony doesn't do it. Publishers are going to get sick of it, say "fuck you," and start making deals with Microsoft. I don't think Microsoft would complain, either, because that would just help them push Xbox One consoles in the end.

Besides, it would be utterly STUPID of Sony not to do it now. Think about it. There's a 99% chance this will be the last console generation that still uses physical media. The digital format is taking over and I don't see much chance of a physical format being the go to distribution method of games 5 or 6 years from now when the new consoles launch. Microsoft is doing it now and getting all the bad publicity. Since they're going digital only eventually, when would be a good time to do so? At the same time as your opponent so you can share some of the backlash, or the next generation when Xbox owners are already used to the idea of no used games and Sony players aren't? If they do it then, they get 100% of the backlash and they end up looking like the bad guys.

Personally, I've always thought Microsoft would block used games and I've always thought Sony would give the publishers the option to do so, but not necessarily implement a system of their own. I still think that's a possibility. If that's the case, do you think EA isn't going to block used games? Activision? Ubisoft? All MAJOR proponents of the online pass this generation. The funny thing is that the biggest player of them all that used online passes was Sony itself.

Also, not all bad news in that article:

Microsoft stresses that "you are in control of what Kinect can see and hear. By design, you will determine how responsive and personalized your Xbox One is to you and your family during setup. The system will navigate you through key privacy options, like automatic or manual sign in, privacy settings, and clear notifications about how data is used. When Xbox One is on and you’re simply having a conversation in your living room, your conversation is not being recorded or uploaded."
Good call, Microsoft. Probably smart to keep it that way.

Just b/c something isn't being recorded or uploaded by MS doesn't mean it isn't by the government. ALL companies say you have control of your data and they all sell it to other parties or give it to the government either voluntarily or through the secret court system. (see Verizon Wireless)

Yeah, but that wouldn't any different than any other device that records your data now. You listed the perfect example - cell phones.

well i note VZW is just your voice where as XB1 is voice and video so the government will know if you own guns; use drugs; etc...

Yeah, but that would only occur if you'd actually put something like that in front of the camera. According to all the information I've read, the camera can be completely turned off. The only thing that couldn't be turned off was it listening to you, and that's because of the voice control, which according to the new article, can also be disabled. It's not nearly as intrusive as it was initially made out to be.

And why would you have hoped that? I don't get all this, seemingly, desire for the Xbox One to fail. People bitch nonstop about NCAA and Madden not having any competition, do you really think Sony would go for the full distance on a new console, potentially at a loss to their to their bottom line, if they were the only console on the market? Only a fucking retard would believe that.

I said that incorrectly, I would think common sense would dictate that they would allow people to turn the mic and voice controls off. My bad.

Edit: I dont have any desire for anyone of them to fail, both kinda lost me at non-BC.....which I dont have a big problem with but even the digital stuff doesn't go over, in which we all know at one point they are going to release some sort of "xbox greats" collection on the xbox one so we can all rebuy games from the xbox 360.

Also wasn't there some sort of fall out in this thread last night, I could have sworn I read that?

I certainly don't want the Xbox One to fail. However, that damn microphone constantly listening was going to be a huge thing for me. Since you can turn it off and it only listens to certain things, I'm fine with it now. How they said it before, though, it was CONSTANTLY listening to everything you said. How it is now, I'm fine with it. I'm still going to cover it up someway so it can't hear me at all, but I digress.

Asking for one to fail over the other just makes no sense. For me, I just like what Sony has put on the table in the present, and seems to be improving in the future with. That's why I'm going PS4 day one, XB1 eventually maybe.

If I was going to get either (maybe one down the road), the speed of the dashboard would be a HUGE deal for me. Sony's was trash with the PS3 and Microsoft's was only marginally better with the 360. We'll see what happens with either of them this generation, but the PS4's streaming ability is ginormous for me. The possibilities are endless with that stuff so that's a HUGE plus for me, granted everything else works as it should.

Alright, that makes better sense. The original way you posted it, it just sounded and read like you wanted MS to intentionally make the bad choices and screw themselves, which isn't to say others elsewhere online aren't wishing that. Which, again, I don't know why one would want that. Like I said, do you honestly believe that Sony would make major upgrades from one gen to the next, at potential lose (at least early on) to their bottom line if they didn't have a direct competitor? Hell no. They'd do just enough to make it appealing but while keeping it purely profitable. It'd be pretty much the same as those complaining about no competition for NCAA/Madden, just in the consoles.

Understandable. That was an issue too, but as Xbox One would probably be the console I'd get first out of the two (assuming that I eventually get both), I pretty much planned from early on to just straight up block off the camera and microphone. Now that it's been stated that you can turn it off, I'm perfectly fine with the Xbox One and will look at getting it sometime in 2014 or 2015. Turn it all off and block the camera/mic with stuff, probably solved.

People love to root for one thing over another. I see TONS of hate levelled at Nintendo over the Wii U from guys that never even considered buying the system.
