    haha thanks

they should be top 10 anyway- so basically they are just basing it commercial success for the top 10 to 20 because most of them werent even true musicians, well the ones from the 80s anyway. Madonna didnt write most of her stuff, thats for sure

Sadly, it's a lot better than I thought it would be when I saw the thread title. I figured Lady Gaga would be in the top ten.

You're just mad that the Stones aren't number one granted I like them better than Michael Jackson, the Beatles, and Bob Dylan.

Metallica in the 40s and Nirvana at 14 just makes no sense.

Meaning that Nirvana shouldn't be anywhere close to top 20. They didn't do anything for grunge. Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, and Pearl Jam made grunge what it was. Not Nirvana. Nirvana was only good on the drums and their best music is their old stuff, when Cobain wasn't doing all the writing.

Meaning I could accept either of those rankings on their own ... Metallica in the mid 40s of "Top Artists" ... okay, I don't agree but I'll buy it. Nirvana really high in "Top 100", again, I wouldn't agree, but I'll buy that in some people's minds they're a Top 20 group.

But if you're going to tell me that Nirvana, in terms of "Top Artist", not "most influential" or any other variation, is that much better than Metallica ... you're off your rocker. Musical tastes aside, in terms of "Top Artists of All-Time", seeing Nirvana anywhere near Beach Boys, Madonna, U2 and The Who is just messed up.

Side note: Justin Timberlake and The Doors side by side? Shoot me now.

I agree with Nirvana at 14, though most of you won't.

What I had a problem with is seeing Coldplay so high on this list. Or at all.

edit: Metallica hasn't been good in years.

Whether Metallica has been good since ...And Justice For All or not doesn't mean that they aren't the reason that Thrash Metal/Metal is popular cause they most definitely are.

And it's more than just Metallica. No one would be around without Tommy Iommi and Black Sabbath, who should be in the top 15 without a freakin' doubt.

I mean, christ, Stevie Ray Vaughn isn't there and neither is Buddy Guy, B. B. King, or Johnny Watson. That's just fuckin' blasphemy if you ask me.

I can deal with Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, and such being there, but Nirvana shouldn't be anywhere close. Their influence is completely made up by MTV and revisionist history, nothing more. Almost no one heard of them until Nevermind and Smells Like Teen Spirit (even though their two best albums, Insecticide and Bleach came way before then) and then no one really cared about them until Cobain killed himself. #14 of all time? Get out of town...

    Totally agree.

I also agree with Nirvana being rated 14. Their impact was huge in the short amount of time. 1989-1994, and only three of those years were in the mega spotlight.

I'm not a big Beatles fan at all, so I would have Elvis at 1, Stones at 2, MJ at 3.

Beatles would be four I would say. Maybe five behind Zeppelin, but that's only because of personal preference.
