Anyone know how to get the disc out? I have the yellow overheating light. Thankfully I was playing NCAA 10 to try to get the platinum trophy, so I didn't lose NCAA 11 or Tiger 11. Looks like I'm just going to get a slim later this week.

There's various ways you can look up on youtube to temporarily fix it to get the bluray out and back up your saves to a USB. That sucks, man. This is coming from someone who's had 2 PS3s break because of a bad optical drive(it basically just stops reading discs), both less than 10 days after the warranty expired, and naturally, Sony wouldn't honor it.
I do know one thing, the last time it broke and I bought a slim, I had around 800 trophies. It takes FOREVER to sync those puppies up to a new console. I'm talking like 15 minutes. If you're over 1,000, it'll probably easily take 20 minutes to complete that task alone.
Sorry to hear that. I've recently started wondering about my slim as well. It's nearing the one year mark and it's beginning to make some weird noses. That conspiracy theory that Sony puts a time bomb to go off once the warranty expires is beginning to make me wonder.
Well my saves should be on the hard drive right? I bought a 320GB HD which I will just remove and put in the slim.
This system is about three years old. It was a replacement after my apartment was broken into November 2007.
I figure instead of going through Sony and paying $100+ I will just get a slim, I have my change cup I can cash in....haven't cashed that in for well over a year, so there could be $100 to $150, plus my mom works for Walmart so I can get a $30 discount on the system.
I tried to do a search on YouTube with not much luck yet...if you find a vid, post it on here please.
I don't think it works like that. I'm almost 100% sure that when you install the new hard drive on your Slim, it'll force you to format it which will erase everything. I could be wrong, but I'm almost certain that's how that is, especially going from a phat to a slim. I'd look deeper into this, as I've never tried it, but you might be out of luck there.
Try the fan thing to get the disc out first, unless you have a 60GB:
Heard about this, but it doesn't work on my system.
I wanna think I had the 80 GB Motorstorm System.
Hoping that leaving it unplugged all night will at least allow me to get my disc out. Thankfully it was NCAA 10. Really would have been pissed if it was NCAA 11 in there and I wouldn't be able to get the disc out.
So now you have 11 and can't play it?!?
THAT SUCKS!!!
JB, this is exactly why I traded my 3 year old 60 GB fatty in for a new PS3 Slim. Peace of mind. I got $175 for my old system and I'm not looking back.
If you pick up a new slim, make sure it's a 2100 series (CECH 2101A for the 120 GB and I think it's 2101B for the 250 GB). That's the new and slimmer chip design - revision 2 for the Slim. The model number will be on the bottom of the box. I'm sure Gamestop will have the new ones in but just be careful you don't buy a 2000 series which is the older model.
